Nope, those were brand new castings that were ported and assembled. The 195s that replaced them were pre-eliminators.

I fell for the same crap in 99, bought a set of Dart 200 Conquest heads because they were "close enough" I was told to the AFR 190s back then. over $200 I cheaped out. Kinda knew better but fell for the hopeful BS. Car lost low end picked up a little midrange and was about the same up top compared to stock 462 heads. $2000 in professional porting later they appear to be pretty substantial only the runner now is probably around 215 or better and have had to build a motor, regear, lighten the car, grind a custom cam in hopes it will work well which it probably will. Id trade them in a hot second for a 195 Comp Port, put it that way.

Anyway the reason I harp on it is to keep some from making the same mistakes, if you want to call names, bash, categorize because of it go ahead. Im simply trying to help out, hate hearing similar stories of guys having to spend the money 2-3x to get what they wanted in the first place, then be pissed off about it for God knows how long.BTDT got the Tshirt....call it passion for the hobby.

Whatever, I need groceries.....Ugh.

Those 99 heads are not Dart's 2009 heads. There's 10 years there. I'd trade 1999 technology for 2009 technology any day, from any manufacturer. Dart even reports as much as 100 HP gain from their old design to their new ones, yeah, technology changed and that's a good thing.

Look, not taking a manufacture's word as gospel is hardly bashing.

Worked over heads are on a brand new motor I have in my 67.
They were "out of the box" when I stuck them on the motor I had in it then.
10:1 forged 350
300-36 (Holley street dominator) intake
750 vac secondary
Isky 280 cam (232/485/108)

Put heads on, car sucked. Played with a few fuel pumps.
Put a 2800 stall in it.(T-350 trans) Put 3.73 gears in it. Then 4.11s. Then a 6 speed. Then a Team G , double pumperand a Comp EX 284 cam (240/246. /507 .510 on a 110).

heres the proof

It was still a dog. Better each time but never was "right"
If it would crack a 13 I would have been shocked.

New motor est around 560ish/480tq. We'll see.

port work on exhaust (Darts need it)

Prozacs post above, 200 may not have been a good choice to start with. Plus, as I said, technology is 10 years old.

yes. This thread is over.

Enough is enough.

A few thoughts before I lock this mess:

1. Horsepower is such a nebulous number. The rating process varies from one dyno to another. The only way we are going to be sure there is a REAL difference is if the same dyno is used. This is why the automakers use large, river cooled dynos so the results are most consistant.

2. Horsepower loss is a favourite of mine. I love the estimates of 20% or whatnot, but I find that hard to quanitify. Think about this one for a second, if an alternator can be a fixed draw of 5 hp (for example), where does the driveline stop drawing power to run it? I am guessing that most automatics are easily powered with about 40-or-50hp. I expect manuals are down a little, 20-30hp. or so.

So... that's that, folks. Until John can fully document his concept, we need to leave it alone. Fair enough?
