You could tell I'm havin' thoughts - see the smoke?

I just heard a clip of Bush, saying the current finance crisis is not a failure of free-market economics.

Hmmm...

No, it's not. But it does seem to be a failure of free-MONEY economics, because only a select few are gettin' part of the bailout cash, and other cash 'infusions'. Invest wisely.

Isn't this a semblance of socialism? But under a different name? Like 'bailout'? Save with discretion.

Seems also that if a socialist is about to move in to the OO, we'll have more of the same, but with a little less 'selectivity'??? If so, that's fine by me, since I'm on the 'outside'. Save money. Not at Tar-mart, but IN Tar-Mart stock.

I would surely like to compare the list of bailout cash recipients, to the list of Bush campaign contributors. Hmmm... Invest your savings.

Keep in mind also, that these cash recipients will SIT ON their received cash, to reduce 'risk'; it will NOT be loaned, or spent. On that you can count. Save your money.

Mind you, I'm benefiting from the 85 billion 'infused' into AIG. Save wisely.

I got NO complaints. Lots of 'observations' tho'... Save by any means.

Unless you're on the 'inside', you'd better have a pretty good spread in your egg placement uh huh!!! Lotsa' baskets yup!

Sir Rants-a-lot OUT!

No one should be bailed out, let them all go out of business.

Now the auto companies? Bullshit.

Let them die like they deserve to.

I've always been fond of the term peace keepers. Like the peace keepers disrupted the operation of narco terrorists.

I don't put all the blame on the companies.

It is a somewhat gnarly cycle from my observation... They screwed the workers, then they had a strike, they then got a union, who, inturn, screwed the automakers. The union screw job lasted longer than the other way around and now we are looking at the automakers going down...

Now, I will put much of the blame on them for crappy product. They milked the loyalty of the consumer for too damned long.

They screwed themselves, they are borrowing from a wealthy tomorrow that doesn't exist, and they either didn't forsee this coming, or didn't care.

I'm convinced these failing banks didn't care, they figured they'd ride the housing market wave as long as possible and bail out before it crashes and hurts many others in the process.

Bailing anyone out only reinforces the same behavior that led to this to begin with.

I've been keeping an eye on the mortgage ideas that keep coming out, and haven't seen a single one yet that prevents foreclosures without simply forgiving the worst risk takers that are already behind on payments or could have never afforded their loan to begin with. Those are the last people you want to forgive, because they're the same people that are going to get greedy and screw it up again later.

The unions are the problem. The legacy costs of healthcare and pension are killing GM, Ford, Chrysler.

Toyota and Honda can build cars far cheaper in the US becuase they are not saddled with the legacy costs born by union extortion.

The best thing GM can do is go Chapter 11, and break the union. It is necessary to save the company.

If the government hands them $58Billion dollars you will be paying for UNION HEALTHCARE. I don't give a rats ass if the union has healthcare or not. When I didn't have it, no one gave a shit about me, and it is not the role of the taxpayer to pay for anyone's healthcare.

Let them go Chapt 11 and be done with it.

If you look at the production line workers, they have a cushy job that pays more than tech jobs on the west coast. My cousin works at the Mazda assembly plant in Flatrock MI. He makes 65K base and grosses out at 125K a year with OT. HS education. No college. Will retire with full benes (if the sky doesn't fall) at 55. Thats better than a govt job.

He & I have talked about how slack and unmanageable the work force has become. How the minorities have control of management, and management is helpless to remove dead wood. Mazda had to move its production and tooling out of its own plant due to failing QC. Now they build Mustangs there.

IMHO the US auto industry has lost its control and will most likely not recover from this slump. A "bail-out" is a waste of my money.

I have a somewhat different take on it, although I agree with about everything already said, I think GREED is a key word here. Corporate Exes are way too concerned with making huge bonuses based on short term decisions that are in fact disastrous long term decisions. In other words they want to make their millions and get out, let the next fool try to save what they already pillaged and raped.

When you buy a GM car the cost of the union is $3000 Per CAR.

The cost of the CEO and corporate Execs is less than $1.

You can eliminate every corporate exec in the company and it wouldn't be a grain of sand on the beach.

That doesn't make it right, just, in context, is what it is.

The difference is the government takes your money at the threat of jail.

GM doesn't.
