Ive spent eight years in traffic services, and I was a crash reconstructionist for five years before that, Michigan State Police Lieutenant Gary Megge told the News. So Ive seen my share of fatal wrecks, and I can tell you: Deaths are not caused by speeding. Theyre caused by drinking, drugs and inattentiveness. The old adage that speed kills just isnt realistic. The safest speed is the speed that is correct for that roadway at a given time. A lot of speed limits are set artificially low.... It just doesnt seem right to me that we would enforce a law where 90-98 percent of the people are in violation of it, Lieutenant Megge told the News. Its not the way we should do business in this country. |

It has all shifted over the last 40 years when they started treating everything like a business. Everybody tries to upsell. Fines double in a construction zone, obviously for safety sake. Corrective and punitive action demands you hit them where it hurts; the wallet or the pocketbook. DUI/DWI on your first offense could set you back 5 to 10 grand. Let that be a lesson for you....OUCH .... Doesn't matter what speed you post, somebody will exceed it. Especially some bike riders from California. Instead of sliding an enforcement officer a $20, the enforcement officer is sliding his department a 100 times that.
Some people live within the law. Others are above it. . |
