I keep seeing these ads in the sunday magazines and now on TV...

My junk sensor is on max with this thing: http://www.heatsurgetv.com/

Please note, the Amish don't normally permit themselves to be photographed.

Yeah - it's a surge alright, and it's hot, and steamy too. Oh the fragrance; the aroma!

I was talking to someone the other day who got one of these. They weren't impressed. It's 120V which means it's limited to just a bit over 5000 BTU. In other words it's equivalent to a $25 ceramic space heater. You're just paying for the fancy cabinet and flame effect.
Well they do tell you you're buying the cabinet and the heater's free, so no BS there. So if you just want to warm up one room and add ambiance, that's what it's for.

If a 120v, 1500 watt electric heater was 100% efficient, it would get 5120 BTU, like most other 1500 watt heaters, it gets 5119 BTU*. In other words, nothing special...

* I am smart, but not this smart, I read this in a couple of places on the web last night.

And just for comparison, the heater in my 1,000 square foot house is 75,000 btu.

They should call that thing an electric meter accelerator. A $25 radiator would probably work better.
