A growing problem in Kalifornia is people walking behind you when backing out of a parking space. Of course there are other cars that ignore you as well.

So after having the rear of my Cherokee repaired, I began pondering the addition of a warning device or devices.

First off an audible device. Like a train horn hitting 150+ db pulsing at .5 second intervals. Then a flashing backup lite using an aircraft landing light (or the equivalent) flashing in harmony with the horn. All this would be activated with a manual switch to prevent pissing off neighbors when I roll in at midnight.

Anyone else have any other suggestions? I gotta do something before I get arrested for manslaughter.

Most cars and pedestrians will emit a loud audible warning as you're backing up over them.

Why pay for a horn when you get the noise for free?

LOL

Nice thing about the loud exhaust.

For an alert, you don't need a switch, they sell them that plug into the backup light circuity.

Yeah, but he might need new lights (or tires) if his neighbors have to listen to BEEP BEEP BEEP every time he backs out of his driveway at 6 in the morning.

Why not just back into the space or pull all the way through if there isn't a car in front of you?

I know you're a Californian, but come on man...

Why not look in your mirror while backing up?

Another option is a custom rear bumper fabricated out of 1/4" chromoly.

Whaaa?!? You use the mirror?

I always thought that was for guaging the timing when jabbing the brakes on a tailgater!

Then....
There's always displaying a large shotgun out the back window when backing.

I like the bumper in the pic.

Hold down the brake, then drop the gas. The smoky burnout will clear any pedestrians out, then slowly back out. :D In highschool, I had my own brigade of guys clearing the parking lot when I was backing out. Burnout for entertainment meant everyone moved out of the way 4 me.
