I had a shop send in an oil sample for analysis. Just trying to get a handle on how the bottom end of my engine is doing. This is the oil that was put in after the head gaskets were done last year. Here's a link to the report:

http://www.trackmysample.com/HORIZON_ ... 2352137898&n89=7898235213

The shop agreed with me that the high silicon content is likely due to the work done on the engine. The iron content is classified "normal". My car has 77k miles on it. Not sure what to make of the chromium or potassium content. It was suggested I post this up for discussion.

it's ok to say you PM'd me, Dale... no one will think the lessor of you... me, well that's another thing...

My assessment is that the cylinders were washed down during the work, and the chrom and iron readings were a result of that first startup.

I recommended retesting after the next O/C.

Who did that test? I may do that on mine...

I was just trying to avoid unsavory associations. Too late!

I had a shop local to me send off the sample. They put AMSoil in the car, and suggested that AMSoil will help with cleaning up contamination. I can ask the shop who they used if you like?

You can do the oil analysis test yourself by getting the kit from Amsoil. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/oai.aspx

Yeah, except Amsoil will never tell you, "you need a different oil"

The high Potassium and Sodium are indicative of a coolant leak in the oil. The low viscosity is probably due to high gas content due to running rich. I assume this is Mobil 1 5w-30. How many miles was the oil in there? The chromium is ring wear. The silicon could be from RTV when the heads were done, did they use RTV that was exposed to oil, is the portion of the head gasket that is in contact with oil silicone based? The iron content is high and could be from abrasive wear if the silicon is coming from other that Gasket material. The high wear levels could be a result of reduced lubrication due to a coolant leak contributing to the problem. This is the baseline for Mobil 1:

Retest after the next O/C as mentioned before or post it on www.bobistheoilguy.com
