There are a number of small phillips head screws along the leading edge of the dash board cover. Just under the overhang, IIRC.

Those need to come out. I think there are also a few at the leading edge inside the defrost vents.

From there, the pad should just pull straight back and come off.

This sucks, but like Andy said you'll have to take off the dashboard.

89 FSM instructions:

"Instrument Panel Upper Pad"
Remove or Disconnect:
1. Battery negative cable.
2. Steering column tilt lever.
3. Headlamp switch knob.
4. Eight instrument panel courtesy trim plate screws and courtesy trim plate.
5. Instrument panel trim plate (fuse).
6. Six screws from instrument panel upper pad.
7. Two screws from defrost duct.
8. Instrument panel upper pad.

Once you get it out, you can see them.

I don't remember off hand, but I htink they are 4" round... or very close to that.

I've never removed them. From the dash picture it seems to indicate they might be oval, maybe 4x6?

Speakers are 4 X 6 2 incehes deep. Dash pad is a little hard to get out and back in, you just have to wiggle and push and pull it. Watch for the small spring clip on the right side towards instrument panel, it can be a pain to get in place. Thanks guys for your help I now have sound in the car!!! I am looking for a CD changer that plays through the FM radio, is there such a thing , my xm radio does it, and which one do you suggest. I just don't want to do a bunch of wiring for it. My hearing is not so great and wife wears 2 hearing aids so fidelity is not as important as just hearing the music. Again THANKS your help has been great and appreciated.

As far as the cd changer I used to have a clarion 6 disc changer I liked a lot that played through the fm channel. Just look for "fm modulator" when you search.
