having a problem with my rear compartment lights. They will not turn off when the hatch is opened. They come on and go off correctly when the doors are opened and closed - takes about 30 seconds and all lights go out. However when the hatch is left open (at a car show) all the interior lights stay on. The under hood turns off properly

Lights should turn off automatically after about 15 minutes. How long have you left the hatch open?

Bill, what year?
Anyway, yep, with the hatch open, at least on a C4, the lights will stay on until the battery goes dead.

For shows, some here have made a simple piece to push the hatch ajar switch down when open. This turns off the lights after the timer runs down. It's made dtom a small wood dowel with a grove in it to catch on the plastic and hold the switch down.
I think it was Durango Boy or Curtis that had pics here.

Not sure what the problem could be. Mine goes off at approx. the same time that the underhood light does. Hmmmmmm....

Sorry - the car is a 2004. Correct on the C-4 hatch lights. The hatch was open for about 6 hours during the show. Never noticed the lights being on. Funny thing though. Whatever was wrong is not happening now. Sunday night I couldn't get the lights to go off. Waited longer than 15 minutes. But yesterday and today I've checked it about six times and each time the lights have gone off - about 15 minutes. Strange.

Still trying to figure out what fuse contraols the interior lights

If you have the owners manual, on the fuse listing, it should show up under courtesy lights and labeled ctsy on the fuse block.

Thanks - checked that but the only thing I saw referencing courtesy lights was a relay. Can't imagine they are not protected by a fuse

Hmmm. Weird if it's not doing it now. Wonder if the delay module is faulty?

There is a knob on the drivers side dash panel that controls it, it's a dimmer. If you turn it all the way right/left can't remember which way, it stays on, if you turn it the other way the will go out sooner. You just have to play with it awhile to find the right setting.
