I'm thinking of accepting a job offer with a company in Columbia Mo, and I know there are a few GuRu's who live there! So, how's the area? Any good lakes, rivers around for waterskiing, etc? I know from the posts here that there is a nice Hooters/carwash there!

Where I live now, I'm 20 minutes from a huge lake, and 10 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean.
It will be very hard to leave the area, but this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I'm giving it serious consideration.

I've looked at all the chamber of commerce sites, etc, but just wanted to get some info from my Corvette brothers!

What company is it with? We are 1hr (75mi) north of the lake of the ozarks. There are small lakes around for fishing or swimming. I've been here since '86.

It would be GREAT for you to move out here. It has lots of big city appeal in a smaller city environment. Usually around 125K with the students.

Down south of here about an hour is one of the most famous lakes in America, The Lake of the Ozarks. Google Party Cove and see what you think. It's a HUGE lake with tons to do from car shows to water craft and some of the most fun bars and clubs I have been to.

It's within 2 hours of several much larger cities like St. Louis, Kansas City, and Springfield. Chicago is only 6 hours NE from here.

Obviously you'd have some immediate friends in Curt, Tyler, and I, and we'd make sure your transition here was easy and fun.

I'm quite excited at the idea you'd be moving here...please keep us posted.

Thanks for the info guys!

The company I'm considering is ABC Laboratories..
They've recently built a new facility and are expanding their services, and a former colleage of mine called me and offered the postion a few weeks ago.

I'm going out to see the place on 8/27-8/28, and will need to make a decision shortly thereafter...

Thanks again!

Here's some wortless info., but what the heck...

Occasionally I travel from Colorado, back home to Pennsylvania. We always try to stop in Columbia or Effingham, because my wife and I got a good vibe about the place.

Only seen them very late at night and very early in the morning.

But if you move there, my next trip to PA could be quite an event!

I hope whatever decision you make works out really well for you. Stuff happens for a reason, so pay attention to what's going on to help make your decision.

I'm excited for you. Change, or even the prospect of it is invigorating.

Would you be buying a house or renting something? There are some houses for sale in my neighborhood and I think there are a few over in Curt's neighborhood that are for sale too...pretty good deals.

I'd be renting something until our house here sells...
That's what is really holding me back....Just thinking about the logistics and where to live until the house sells, not to mention paying both rent there and a mortgage here....Ughh...

Man, if we do move you're welcome anytime! Thow a bass in the car with ya and we'll wake up the neighborhood!
You're absolutely right...things happen for a reason..
I've been working a side job to make ends meet so that my wife can stay home with the baby. If I take this job she'll won't ever have to work again and I'll only have to work 1 job! Seems like a no brainer...but I'll be leaving family behind, and my little girl and nephew are only 6mo apart in ago, so they wouldn't get to grow up together...

Hopefully I'll know what to do after I go see the place, ya know?

Advice given to a friend from another realtor friend, was to rent your old house there, while it's on the market, and rent a house in the new location until the old house sells. The rent from the old house pays the rent, or mortgage, on the new one until it sells.

Get a hold of me when you're in town looking, we'll get together and I'll do whatever I can to help you with your search.

Oh, and we're not that bad here, redneck yankee, or otherwise. Just a normal city. However, some of the surrounding towns do seem a bit 'hick' which is just another reason Columbia is so wonderful.

Here's a bonus that Columbia has to offer.

NICE!

I've thoroughly enjoyed your updates on the hooters lunchtime carwash bonanza!

Come to think of it, I think mine could use a good weekly washing as well!

How far is that from 4780 Discovery Drive ? !

Thank you Sir! Yeah, renting has crossed my mind, but I'd have to get some type of property mgmt to handle it and screen applicants. I've spend a lot of $$ fixing that place up, and I sure don't want to get some people in there who will mess the place up, or not have it presentable for showings, etc...
I'll definitely give you a holler when we're ready! Many Thanks!

It doesn't take long to get anywhere in Columbia, 20 min will get you from one side of town to the other. Their new lab is not far from the University. Always a good place to be.

Wow! That's nice to know. It used to be that way here in Wilmington 20yrs ago. Now, the traffic situation is way out of control. Too many people, too few roads...
The growth in this area has skyrocketed...along with the real estate prices and just about everything else...
