I know the feeling. We lost one the SEC's best receivers in week 3 and our best QB in years in week 5 ... and we still have no run game.

As a reward, we get the nation's #1 and #2 teams in back-to-back weeks.

Very nice, Bill!

Lots of familiar stuff there. How difficult is it to remove the trailing arms and differential crossmember from a C2? I know mine weren't exactly a walk in the park.

Welcome Frank!

I'm not that familiar with the bubble window cars, but that appears to be the lower front corner of the rear window, driver side, missing corner trim (?)

I would recommend contacting Willcox Corvette. I've used them for nearly all of my interior parts, and they have access to a good selection of used parts for things that aren't being reproduced. Very customer-friendly as well.

Wish I could be more help.

I only have one complaint – how the heck can we make the inside of the car cooler? The AC does not work which is fine but DANG it feels like an oven inside that thing. I think the heater is broken in the ON position. Any ideas on that guru’s or do any of you have that same problem in your older cars?

Unfortunately, that’s normal for a C3.

First, I would check the inline control valve in the hose feeding the heater core. If it’s non-operational, stuck in the open position, or flat-out missing, hot water is constantly running through the core. I replaced mine with a manual ball valve and keep it closed during the summer. It does help a little.

For the most noticeable improvement, you can get an insulation kit from any of the vette vendors, but you’ll have to pull all the carpeting to install it. There is an insulator and seal for the transmission tunnel available as well, those are no fun to install either.

And after you do those things, you will have improved it from 9th-level-of-hell hot to only molten-lava hot.

Speaking from experience, that’s not much fun. Always keep a towel nearby for manual defogging - it will also come in handy for the 'inside raining' (you don't really think those t-tops actually seal, do you? )

Will

So far so good. I only hear them running while at idle or really low speed, and at night I notice the headlights dim for a split second when they kick on. Of course I really like the extra room under the hood.

Dewitts offers this fan kit, but I thought $425 was a little too spendy. I used this fan and this controller. If I ever get my A/C working again, I'll add another controller, one per fan, in order to have an override.

I made a frame to mount it out of 2"x2" and 1.5"x1.5" aluminum angle, six tee nuts, and a bunch of pop rivets. It mounts similar to the Dewitts kit, through hollow extrusions on top and bottom, though I riveted mine on instead of using sheet metal screws.

Will, if you need a fan clutch, you can have mine for the cost to ship it. Since I just converted to electric fans, it's just taking up space in my garage. I installed it a couple of years ago after my original got noisy, probably has less than 15k on it.

Sounds like you got it. Those temps are right around the range I'm seeing. For reference, I'm running a 180° t-stat.
And glad to hear the install was relatively uneventful.

Concerning the additive ... I don't know if GM has discontinued it, but it appears the parts suppliers still carry it. Zip has it for $12.95/bottle, part number POSI.

Aparantly pulling the radiator in a 79 is alot of PITA work. Some folks said they had to unbolt the upper pass side A Arm?? It looks tight but I wouldn't think you had to do all that.....

I don't know about the '79 style, but removing the shroud in my '76 is (was) definitely a PITA. We've never had to unbolt the control arms, but we did have to remove the bolts to the radiator support - 3 inside each fender, 2 underneath, and 1 rod from the bottom center of the support to the upper nose structure. After that, we could shift the radiator and support forward enough to remove the shroud (with the mech. fan removed).

Unfortunately, I don't think you can slide the radiator out with the shroud in place. Due to interference between the outlet tube and the upper control arm, you will likely have to rotate the rad as you remove/install it.

Any news?

I agree with 76Nordic, the chin spoiler should make a difference. It may not solve it completely, but it's only going to help, and they're relatively inexpensive - think I got mine new at Corvette Expo for $40.

Got a new radiator yet?
I just recently installed an aluminum rad, and I also considered the ebay brands. They get mixed reviews on CF, maybe leaning toward the positive. I ended up biting the bullet and sending my money to Dewitts, but I'd like to hear your experience.

I'm a football fan, and I honestly haven't paid much attention to this ordeal. As long as they're on the field on Sundays, I'll probably be watching.

Now, if something were to threaten the college football season, then we would have a serious problem!

Supposedly if the rear is somewhat out of alignment, the car tends to be 'darty' at speed. Maybe that could be contributing to the touchiness.

However, I haven't experienced this myself, maybe someone else here has?

Did you disconnect the hoses from the steering valve as well? If not, then its very unlikely you switched them. IIRC, the pressure hose connects to the pump via a threaded fitting, while the return hose attaches with a hose clamp on a nipple.
Resized Image

I believe DB is referring to the outboard tie rod connections - there may be two holes in the steering knuckle arm. Of course, the inner hole would give you quicker steering response.
Resized Image

I don't really know what would make it feel "touchy". Has it been aligned lately?

I don't know if it will help, but this was our process in setting the TV system:

We started with a freshly rebuilt 700R4 and the Bowtie Overdrives kit.

First, we noticed that the TV plunger was not fully returning to its outermost position with the spring that was in it. So, per BTO's recommendation, we installed the TransGo SK700-Jr kit, which provided full plunger travel. Supposedly it also added some other desirable shift qualities, but I didn't have a "before" comparison, so I can't really speak to that.

Then, after installation, we set the TV cable per BTO’s instructions using a pressure gauge as a guide, but we obviously didn’t get it quite right. Over the course of a few hundred miles, I ended up attempting to reset it several times, due to occasional erratic shifting (mainly late shifts or no 3-4 shift). I did notice that if I went too far in my adjustments, I could get what I would consider "quick" shifts.

Finally, we decided to start over, but this time I dropped the pan so I could see exactly what was happening at the tranny end. One person made the bracket adjustments at the carb while I monitored the effect at the plunger.
We set it such that:
- at idle, the cable provides a very slight bit of pressure to the plunger, and
- WOT corresponds exactly to full plunger travel, no more and no less.

That adjustment has been good for several thousand miles, and I’m happy with the shift characteristics.

And I should mention I'm using one of the stainless universal cables and the BTO Holley carb brackets. Obviously your setup is different, but maybe something I mentioned will help.

Now, I’m just hoping Pete doesn’t tell me I've done it completely wrong.
