I'm pretty blessed right now to have a decent sized tax retun and some savings in the bank... looking to buy another C3 for my lovely woman to drive.

I found this car on the vette trader and wondered if anyone knows the owner or would be willing to look at the car for me and give me the 411 on it.

http://www.corvettetrader.com/ads/198 ... ettemassachusetts2738.htm

Looks like a real deal and she really likes the 78-82 body style.

Kinda thinking a fly in and drive home type of thing would be cool for her and I to do together. The east coast is beautiful in the spring and she has family in New York we could stop and see on the way home.
thanks
Will

Brian - you still in Beantown?

You can always email "the rock" AKA "jb666". Just tell him, Jeff, that you are a member of the Guru and I suggested you reach out to him.

I will let him know and find out if it is a problem...

Not in love with it... Althou the 92 is Artic White and the 76 is Grand Prix White.... this one just seems like a good deal on a pretty nice driver and the road tripping home thing is actually a bonus to me.

Hell I'd buy one in CA if I could I could find a similar deal....

Depending on your price range and what kind of work you want to do, I see them all the time up here. Give me a little better idea of what you want and I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Matthew

78 anniversary, says needs repaint but looks ok in pics - $5250

http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/2406906408.html

nice looking 77 (wrong rear window, I know) with 377 and cool blue paint, older resto - $7500

http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/cto/2394085698.html

Plus a bunch more in the 2500+ range depending on what you want. Seriously...tell me your realistic goals and I'll find you a car. I found one last year for my buddy's dad and he's the happiest guy around.

What I'm thinking is a nice driver that don't need too much work. Dead stock would be best...

She likes the coke bottle Stingray bodies, so anywhere in the 74-82 is good. Chrome bumpres are just not in my price range right now.

It looks like I can spend $5000 to $6500 on one without hurting myself.

The 77 is beautiful outside but the engine is a deal breaker for me.

That 78 looks to about my limit on the "needs work" end of things. Not a bad deal if it's really as advertised and he'll come off it a lil bit. I do like that 78 sliver anny paint scheme....

Hey thanks, I'd really apprecieate anything you find.

Do you have a specific color or engine selection, L48 vs L82? Manual vs stick?

L48 or L82... really dosen't matter. As it's just a nice weather driver/occassional use car for her. Thats why I'm looking for a stock as possible car. I have the 92 and she is really intimidated to drive it - so I don't want to put her in a hot rod.

She likes Red cars... but honestly she told me she loved that halloween Orange color GM used back in mid 70's... The only color I wouldn't buy is a brown one.

I'd say on the interior, conditon is king more than color but.... those green cars with green guts are not my cup of tea... nor are the blue gut cars.

Definatly has to be an auto trans.

We are getting this so she can sell the 2005 Mustang which is a 5spd... traffic here REALLY sucks and even driving a stick to work one day a week is crap for her.

I know I'm priced a little low for a nice quality driver car but I think they are comming out as the economy tanks more and more.
thanks

So after a lot of looking around and calling people, I'm seriously looking at car pretty close to home (MD).

82 Collectors Edition 70Kish miles and dead stock. The little woman really likes it the best out of about 30 cars we have considered and I have to say IMO the Silver 82 CE is one sexy looking car.

I'll be sure to update and post up pics if this works out...

You know what's interesting... I looked at 3 before I bought mine, #4.

One was a 96 at a local dealer. I just wanted to get a feel for the car.

Another was in VA, went all the way down south of Richmond for that one... what a mess!

Another was in Miami, but I never physically saw it - too many miles, really.

And the one I bought in NJ. In fact, the guy I bought it from is a member here... more of a lurker, but still a member.

Gotta agree, the '80-'82 cars look fantastic in silver.
And the crossfire/700R4 combo will be a nice bonus at the pumps.

You were lucky with #4 being the right one. Bet you would have would have looked at many more if it wasn't.

I hope Will's luck holds with one being close to home.

I started to get discouraged at #15. They were either trashed or way overpriced.
When I did find mine, renting the U-haul trailer wasn't fun but the drive home looking in the truck mirror at my new Vette was.

I know what you mean! I had the advantage of having the entire east coast at the perfect time of year, pre-July-4th, to go looking. Autotrader was simply full of good C4s all at about the same price point. It came down to color and options. Since I wanted polo green/tan and a 6spd, those were the main controlling factors. After that, I could work with it. Bose? Meh. Power seats? Meh. Suspension upgrades were easy of to compensate for, so no biggie.

Sorry no good news on the update.

Everything was going great (by email) until I tired to set up a time to go and look at the car.... Come to find out he also had the car on Ebay and it looks like it sold....

So I thought no problem, I've got a few back ups to go and look at.

First there is another 82CE (also in MD) on CL for like $6900 and it looks decent, so I call the guy, leave a message on his machine, that I have cash and want to come and look at the car.

For whatever reason the fellow won't to call me back....

Second there was a 78 on CL local to me. Went and checked it out.... What a DOG. Total turd of a car. Interior destroyed, motor leaking oil everywhere, running on 7cyls, body mount on the bird cage was completely filled with rust.... Definatly not as advertised. I told the guy I'd let him know.

I hate these f'n people.

Looks like I'm going to save up for a few months, see if I can get to where I can spend 10K without hassel and try for a nicer car... If something good comes up between now and then for $6500 or less I'm golden....

Sucks, Will.

I hate f'n with people too, don't matter what you're trying to buy.

Hopefully find one like I did, in the first 30 seconds, I figured "Yep, this probably is the one".

You're doing the right thing, it will pay off with a better car.

It's the same mantra we profess re: C4s - buy the best and the newest you can afford.

Still looking everyday on the vett traders, Craigs List, ebay ect....

I've looked at/inspected 2 C3's and 1 C4 Vert none of which were nice enough to even consider buying.

A few days ago I expanded my search area's on CL and found 2 nice C3's in Williamsburg and 1 in the Norfolk area of VA.

Got a return email from one guy that said Sunday night would be good to take a look, and just got a return email on the one in Norfolk asking for my phone # so he can call me and talk about the car....

I know fathers day weekend is a bad time to go and look at some poor guys toy....

These 3 all look very nice in pics so I'm hopefull.
