Gave me $6,000 for the ruby. Had a little under 85,000 miles on it, and some minor body damage. But would have been probably $500-600 in body work, plus a full paint job to make it perfect.

Mechanically it was 100%.

Seats and radio didn't work. But I don't think they even checked that stuff.

I paid $9,300 for it three years ago. Another $800 or so for the wheels. So I lost my shorts a little. But I did enjoy the car when I was able to use it. So I got my money's worth out of it, in a matter of speaking.

I'm not going to talk about how much I lost on the Lincoln...

Paid cash for both of those cars, so it was just fun money anyway. I don't drink, smoke, snort or travel. Cars are my thing. So it's all good.

gotcha. yeah i dont drink or smoke either. guys on my shift say i cant be trusted because of that.

check back in the summer. i hope to have my dyno #'s, and track times posted.

i drove a lightly modded 06 GT (5 spd) in september before the snow came. it had full exhaust, cai, and a tune. it made 315rwhp. it had a very nice sound, but you could tell it was a tad on the heavy side. it certainly was peppy, but if you get it going over 100 mph it really starts to slow for some reason. (not that i would do that).

how did it feel. going from a corvette to a mustang? especially if cars are your thing!

$6000 isnt bad for the ruby i suppose.

I pretty much agree with cuisinartvette..... tough to go to 7000 rpm with a hyd roller.... some do it, but its usually when everything is fresh.... a month later after the springs have gotten a bit loose, valve float starts appearing by 6500 rpm. Nowadays there are quite a few solid rollers built specifically for the street... typically with nice valvetrain friendly gentle lobe ramps, thus adjusting lash isn't required every other week and instead just 1 or 2 adjustments per year are necessary.

But, I won't vouch for how well they do with prolonged idle that a daily driver see's.....I hear some have figured out how to make them last, others say don't run them on the street.... that is, if you're a daily driver seeing extended street driving. Its a tough decision and should be based upon how you truly are going to drive your vette.

But, with 427 cubic inches, with a solid roller, to have a HP peak at 7000 rpm is more cam than you think with a 23 degree head.... something in the range of 264/268 and even a bit bigger would be required.... that same cam could take a 383 to over 7000 rpm, but your motor would eat it up....talk to skidownit on the corvette forum.... I think that is the cam he has been running or thereabouts, and I think his peak is still before 7000 rpm with his 434.... which is par for the course.

If its a true street car, I'd suggest you stay with a hyd roller in the 240 area, if your motor is running right, it should make 550 HP at around 5600-6000 rpm.... and even as much as 575ish..... which is an awful lot of power for the street.... almost stupid power. It'll be perfectly happy with a tight 3k converter as well.

good luck with whatever you do and let us know what you decide on.

Any news for us? Looking forward to that video!

My 88 "bone stock" weighed 3265 without me. I have since changed the exhaust/motor "Bowtie" block, and put the light C5 Z06 rims on. Oh yeah, the 4+3 is coming out, and the ZF6 is going in!

It will be interesting to see what it weighs after all that. I am hoping it will be around the same.

Anyone know what tranny is lighter? ZF or 4+3?

Is there a better car out there right not then a 02 Z06 (bang for the buck)? Most even come with some bolt on's 2 make 450-475 at the flywheel.

BTW, I have since added the aluminum ramps. They are very nice to have.

I am not a huge fan of the C5's, but I think the Z06 looks nice.

However that one has 85000 miles which is more then I have on my 88. Too many miles for me personally.....

About 4 years ago, I drove my bud's 02 Z06 down the 1/4 because he didnt want too. My 2nd pass was a 12.6@114 mph, and it was BONE stock.

Notbad in my books.
