Great day! I have been riding my Trek Bike for a month for some good cardio and to loose 20 pounds. I can usually get in 10-15 miles daily. I start at 6:30am, as I watched the school buses on the road carrying high school kids, some smart ass yells at me at a stop light something you Motherf(*^$%, my immediate response without thinking "keep your mother off the streets it wouldn't happen. The kid was in shock the whole bus goes nuts. Uh.. I haven't lost it yet! Another kid yells out lets kick his ass!! Another kid in the bus says no, no he's an x SEAL he would kill all of us for fun and then our parents!! My dad knows him. Gawd is that cool!
Worked on the vette, changed oil in my wife's Fusion and cut the grass. Going to Olive Garden for dinner Endless pasta and salad.

Ah.. the 60's
Music was great. Favorite song to beat the snot out my car was Spencer Davis "Gimme some Lovin" being played loud through my Craig 8 track tape player. Animals"we gotta get out of this place" activates the war brain cells along with Paint it Black by the Stones. Won the draft lottery # 4 even though I was in college that winning number trumped my college deferment. Cool. I loved those times minus the war stuff and even that was memorable in an odd way.

Finished my repairs on the 87, feel better now. Raining now with severe storms tonight.
Heading to the locate Chevy dealership to order two rear hubs for Erin's Vette. Drivers rear started making noise on the return trip two weeks ago. Better replace both hubs instead of just the one making noise. Where Erin works one of the specialist was harassed and attacked last night in the parking after her work shift. She shot a whole can of Wasp and Hornet Spray in the assholes face, eyes and mouth. When the police showed up the guy was having major problems breathing, seeing and talking, gawd ya gotta love Raid bug killer. I guess the perp was a long time petty thief with a long record. To add insult to injury the lab specialist was so pissed she threw a bag of flour and eggs on him. She had gone to the store during her break an hour before. Good thing she didn't have any bricks in the car.

Real wood! Todays synthetic stocks are durable but add no character.
I finished building a match grade AR-15 with a Marine heavy grade barrel and nice modified trigger pull with a Burris Scope this spring. I have never had a chance to dail it in. Life got in the way! Recovery dives are tappering off now so maybe I cab can get some trigger time in. Got involved for a brief period of time with a sport combat shooting team. Involved use of a shotgun, M-4, pistol or revolver. Sounded good but I was surrounded by wannabes that were cops and fire fighters. Don't need macho punks carrying guns.

TB no kidding about the equipment! I would have paid more than a scrap rate for that 14" Oliver.

Agree 62 is way to young, he was a runner, never smoked, health nut, survived 3 tours in Vietnam. His AMX was fast the stock 401 had guts. He also had an MGB GT.

Bill, in high school (the same high school I retired from) we had a rod and gun club. Bring your Shot Gun scabbered to the Wood Shop Teacher on a Thursday and shells on Friday to shoot clays Friday afterschool at the range less than a 1/4 mile from school. Try doing that today!
Had a Honda 160 Scrambler that I picked cheap from a kid that splattered himself hitting the back of a stopped school bus. Had to replace the front rim, tire and then it was my turn to hit something.
My second car was a 61 chevy conv,409, four speed. The impala weight tons and the x frame was not strong enough to handle the aggressive driving I did. Had a buddy with a 64 tripower Pontiac Catalina Conv. Gawd what a beast! His brother had a 65 Charger 500 with a Hemi. The Charger was quick but didn't hold up at all. GM and Fords you could beat on all day and would run stronger, Hemis would let loose at 5400rpm.
When the kids in the hood would get a BB gun at age 7 or 8 I got a 22, when they got a 22 I got a shotgun.
Hah growing up in the 50"s

Feels like I should be some place today! Teachers have meetings today with students tomorrow, and I'm no longer involved. Had to pick up somethings I left behind at school last spring yesterday. My old Wood Shop is now 4 classrooms with all kinds of electronics, smart boards, elmos, and advanced HVAC. Oliver table saw, jointers, lathes were sold for scrap, approx 6,000 lbs of 5/4 rough sawn stock was hauled off to the land fill. Oh well, all of our kids are going to college don't ya know.
Spending quality time with the 87 doing permanent repairs on the temporary repairs I made in Laramie 2 weeks ago on the road. Later funeral home time for a retired teacher (62)that retired this June and died of a heart attack Sunday. He was changing oil in his AMX when it hit him. His wife found him under the car when she returned from church. He was planning on during the Hot Rod power tour next spring. Great guy! American Motors/ MoPar crazed.
Well time to attack the Vette.

Growing up in South Bend, Indiana we had brick streets and fast cars in the sixties, the reason I bring up about brick streets it was a major traction and braking problems on well worn brick. Therefore to catch the green light from Azars Big Boy to Bonnie Doones(another burger joint)you had to reach 80mph to make the light, if not it become equally as challenging to stop. The local police were pretty cool about the dozens of cars running the curcuit on and Fri and Sat nights. The sleeper cars back then were the Studebaker Larks R2 Supercharged coupes. They were fast, light and pretty much bullet proof. The R2's would make life miserable for Chevelles, Dodge Darts, and Buick GS. The Lag in the Supercharger would be just enough to allow the Lark to hook up on the brick streets while others would do impressive burn outs. I worked at a local Chevy Dealership and my car at the time was a 58 Corvette. Not very many corvettes then, but the interesting thing with my muscle cars buddies was none of them wanted to race me. I guess the small block, straight pipes, and Goodyear Blue streaks on the back spoke volumnes. BTW The Larks were no challenge for my 58.

Excellent weekend! no recovery dives,no honey do stuff, only thing pending was a wedding Sat. Good food, great people, and the alcohol flowed. Today, nothing! didn't drive anything or anywhere just relaxed. According to my wife this the first time since Christmas I have done nothing. Listen to Oldies and fixed Steaks on the grill.
Of course tomorrow being Monday the crap will hit the fan somewhere.

I have had a lot of luck with Milwuakee Industrial Masonry Bits. They have a very aggressive pitch on the carbide tip that will rip right through that slab. Ever thought about the use of a power driver that shoots a 3 1/2" fastener with a 27caliber powder charge?

Ron sorry to read about your cancer.. hang in there. I;ll be thinking about you. I had a bout with skin cancer 7 years ago Oncologist felt it was exposure to agent orange in Vietnam. Bone Marrow samples are a must for proper cell ID.

Just returned an hour ago from the most hated recovery dive a diver could experience. Recovery of a 12 year old girl hit by a speed boat. It was a last minute vacation before school started for her next week. I didn't find her body another diver did. Young County Cop his first body recovery. Gawd I need a drink.

Andy most slabs around here are 6 bag mix concrete and contain in the mix size 1 and #3 stone and gravel in their mix and added strenght. Make sure you use a concrete bit and the drill is not in reverse. Not trying to insult anyones intelligence but I've sen guys struggle with allhe right drill and bit just to figure out the hammer drill was in reverse.

A Tale of Two Diaries.

1. Wife's Diary:

Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment on it.

Conversation wasn't flowing, so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed, but he didn't say much. I asked him what was wrong; He said, 'Nothing..' I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it.

On the way home, I told him that I loved him. He smiled slightly, and kept driving.

I can't explain his behavior I don't know why he didn't say, 'I love you, too.'

When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent. Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed. But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else.

He fell asleep - I cried. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.

2. Husband's Diary:

Good Morning Guys. Back home after unsucessful trip to Reno/Truckee. Got to see some great country! My wife gets unnerved with break downs on the road when its dark. Blown semi truck trailer tire took out my atf cooler and a pin hole in the radiator. Nothing great! just Murphys Law at work! I Called Bill H to let him know we wouldn't make it. Great Guy! He was truly concerned.
God Bless the 30 military service members killed in Afganisan. Twenty two SEALs with their experience will be hard to replace. Talk to you guys later. And Yes Matthew I did take pics....

Another hot day with high heat index numbers of 104. This is getting old!
Don your garage looks great!
TB are you counting down the days before school starts?
Leaving for Truckee Cal on Tuesday. Hard to pack enough stuff in a vette for a 2 week vacation. Erin's having the same problem.
When we return from Truckee/Reno we fly to Nappa Valley mid Sept, then to Ireland/England/Scotland.

I have ADT. Free installation and $34/month. 13 year old collie that has gone deaf in the last year and is no longer up to the task of security. Our crime rate in Granger has gone up some since last summer. Break ins, home invasions, and garage break ins have increased with the high heat. With the central air and closed windows drowning out the sound of problems and neighbors are not as effective as in cooler temps. Glocks and HK help when recent power outages and downed lines.

Rule 13 There are no entitlements in life.

Rule 14 Its OK to dream but keep it real, Remember 1 in 47,000 football players will make the NFL. 1 in 62,000 will make the NBA, 1 in 49,000 will play MLB.

Rule 15 Murphy's Law will kick your ass when you least expect it.

This heat in the 100's finally kicked my ass today. I love being outside so working in 95 plus degree temps with a heat index of 112 was not a big deal. I was servicing our back up generator today, changing oil, both plugs, gas filters yada, yada, walked into the a/c house at 71 degrees and went right to my knees. Damn should have known better!
It was like someone sucker punched me! Then my brain thinking I'm 17 instead of 62 thinks I should go back outside and and finish some odds and ends. Wow this really kicked my butt now. My wife thinks my bullet proof days should be modified a little. Taking the 87 to South Haven Mich to a restaurant called Clementines tonight, my wife likes the place, great service and fish.

We had an argument about him doing ROTC last night so he has some help paying for college and has a job when he gets out. As a 20 year veteran, that's important to me, never mind the service to the country. He doesn't get it...yet and we don't know if he'll be accepted anyway, but should try.

Ralf: My experience as a teacher over the years with my seniors has been that most, if not all are not ready to take on the challenge of college. MATURITY ISSUES On average 30-34% of our seniors go off to college, 80% do not make past the first year. Wasting mom's money. My students that have gone into the military first have a Master Chief or Drill Instructor kicking their ass to succeed. Student's going into ROTC are mixed, most drop out and end going into the military. I'm glad I served, never did use all my GI Bill for college up. I did my undergrad, masters plus 45 hours beyond and still have remaining monies.

Tomorrow recovery dive in the harbor. 95 degree beating down sun and me in a black wet suit, with 92 lbs of gear. Harbor water temps were 70 plus degrees. Wet suit is full of sweat. Hopefully this will be my last dive for a while.

@62 I think about an up coming job more than I use to. Less spontanious now, more calculating, and still aware of Murphy's Law. More difficult putting on my wet suit and tanks, not a weight issue, shoulders are beat up. Always did my heart good when I could take a 19 yr old gang banger down hard.

Borders closed its doors last October. Barnes and Noble seems to be doing quite well. Notre Dame Hang Out now!

Yes! Not trying to antisocial towards other groups but when I look at the attitude and sagging pants, I think to myself I have probably killed better people than these through my sniper scope.

This is unbelieveable, who owns the US is China, Gawd Communist Capitalist who would of thought that could happen. When I retired in never figured in Soc.Sec as a long term income for me or my wife. Problem is so complex with so many egos to fill in Congress and the Senate plus the demo, and gop, plus the tea party, special interest, damn we better learn how to speak Cantonese or Mandrin soon. Our State has blue law on the books from 1890 something that prohibits the sale of pork or eating pork on Sundays. It become so bad in the 50's that all stores and filling stations were closed on Sunday's. You could shot a man for stealing your horse but you could not bury the body on your property.

Yea I spelled it right Pledge furniture polish on a car finish, the smell of lemon pledge....I can only take so much diversity. Wow that really sounds bad...nah its F(&%in As**^$# from cruising 60's music to rap. Not Cool!

Driving while texting law went into effect July 1 in Indiana, news media immediately said how are the police officiers going to distinguish from talking on the phone and texting from a distance. Local police admit they will not waste time enforcing a law that is too difficult to prove. Great Laws! Its like our blue laws, can't sell beer or hard liquior on Sundays.

Bill this is just the warmup to the real thing! Great shots, great background with the foothills or mountains, in Indiana we just have corn and soybeans no mountains except for the occasional landfill.

I'm still doing that old school too. I hand polish and buff. Maybe it's about time I mechanize. Buffer suggestions anyone? I don't care for swirl marks.

On badly oxidized paint I use 2000 grit water paper, Porter Cable Random Action Variable speed orbital buffer, a good polish i.e Griot or surf city polish, then Carnuba wax. I like Meguiers body cleaner, has a nice grit that breaks down quickly. Great looking 911.

Just to let you know, you don't have to be an HOA member to live in the land of control freaks. Coral Gables, a city in Miami-Dade County, has all kinds of rules and regulations from decibal levels of leaf blowers to parking pick up trucks behind a 6' high fenced in area that can't be seen from the street and no commercial vehicles allowed, hence magnetic signs on vans and pick ups. Realtors signs for sale or rental homes are about 1'x 9" and out by the street. The list of ordinances goes on and on.

I wouldn't handle that much control very well! I never had any compliants when I would park my Diamond T Reo tandom Axle dump truck in front of the house when I came home for lunch when building houses, they got a little anal when the rear tires would leave gouges in the asphalt in a hot summer day. I think the key the HOA success is consistancy and commonsense. Jacking up an old Studebacker on blocks in the front would go over like a turd in the punch bowl, but no problem with the same Studebacker parked in front of the house is cool. I did get some evil stares when I fired up the 55 Chevy once with open headers.

If you are a free spirited person that doesn't like being told what to do than an HOA is not for you. If you prefer an overseer that demands compliance and uniformity than an HOA may well be right up your alley. You can find parties with women boinking and felating Santa or shooting bottle rockets from her bottle holder on the 4th of July without belonging to an HOA. Stuff like that happens everywhere.

We used to do "Bottle Rocket Warfare" @ 50 paces. They do tend to make your "Launch Hand" black though.

Did you know that, on the freeway, a bottle rocket held out the window will pace your car @ 70mph for a fullsecond and a half before arching towards the car you're shooting at?

Did you know that if you throw an egg from a convertible at the car ahead of you at 65mph the egg will hit the hot blond in the back seat. Gawd high physics.

Hit the cold waters of Lake Michigan this morning at 6:45 am. Took 45 minutes to attach floatation collars and 30 minutes to pump air and adjust. Surfacing on the aft side of the recovery barge two guys are pissing off the side in the direction of my bubbles. Damn I should have known they were former Marines, they just don't know any better! Inspected a 32' hull and stren section that hit the pier during the storm yesterday. Pretty good day! Ears are giving me problems tonight.
