Quick U-joint question

Yes, it's been a long time since I've done u-joints. Lots of CV axles instead.

Anyway, I got the u-joints in the shaft but they seems sort of stiff, is that right? There aren't any bind spots that I can feel, it's just not floppy.

The ones that I took out would let the front yoke flop around pretty easily.

I don't want to have to pull the shaft again in a couple weeks.

Thanks,
Jeff

In my opinion the RX-8 didn't hold a candle to the last gen RX-7 in styling. I did get a ride in an RX-8, it was pretty quick.

Nice Camaro Don.

I had an '81 that I bought before I had my license, sold it not too long after I got my license though.

This thread is bringing back so many memories. Dirtbikes, Snowmobiles..

That's Rod for starting this one. Put a smile on my face all day.

Shoot, my car memories are not that exciting.

Dad had a few fun cars when I was younger.

'82 TransAm I don't think I ever got to drive it.
'88 TransAm 5spd, everytime I drove it something broke. Cam went on it one time.
'88 Vette that I drove more than he did for a year or so when we moved to Florida.

My cars were an eclectic mix
First car was a '78 Olds Cutlass Supreme with the 4.3 V8, it was a dog but the interior was so comfortable everyone wanted to ride.
Then I got into Fieros. First one was an '84 4speed, old man hit me driving to school one morning so I got an '85 with a 5spd. then I bought a wrecked '88 GT 5spd with T-tops and started working on it. In the meanwhile I had an '86 Fiero GT, a beat to death '87 TransAm, a low rider Mazda pickup, a '58 Willy's CJ5, an 87 S-10 Blazer and an 90 Grandam GT all before I turned 21.

The funny part is that I bought the Willys for a grand, had new paint, new top, new tires and wheels but the guy couldn't get it to run. I put a new homemade gasket on the float bowl and it ran like a champ. Would go through 3-4ft snow drifts like nothing. Top speed was about 45 though. I traded that for the TransAm, then traded the TransAm for the Mazda truck. Then sold the Mazda for $1500.

Nothing as exciting as the cars you guys or my dad grew up with.

The 6 plugs I could get out look pretty rough a couple of them are redish-brown and the center electrodes are curved. Damn, they were AC Delco Iridiums that I had just bought too. Another $40 thrown in the money pit.

I think my dad was! He's in northeast PA so hopefully it wasn't too extreme for him.

I tried to call him this evening but couldn't get ahold of him. I'm sure if anything happened I would have heard by now.

My wife called me freaking out. I was just like Don, cruising down the highway with no clue what the earth was doing under me.
I had her go out into the garage and check on the Vette since it's up on jackstands.

Nothing exciting going on here oh except that my community college had to cancel classes today (the second day of the semester) due to a bomb threat. What a world we live it.

Put the Vette up on jackstands last night to get the driveshaft out. I could really use one of those crazy contraptions like you have Tom. Found an exhaust leak at the cat and back where the muffler goes on the rear tube. I'm taking the mid section to a shop today to have it welded or something. It needs to be about 3" longer. Maybe I can rent a pipe stretcher?

Anyway, everyone is keeping an eye on Hurricane Irene.

Have a great day folks!

Jeff

Exhaust leak pic..just for the hell of it.

Compression ratio is just a tad higher than stock. Pistons are stock compression ratio, the only thing I had him use that would increase it was 1094 head gaskets which are .039 compressed thickness.

If I put it manually in 2nd and gun it from a stop it won't ping until it gets up to 3k.

I am going to double check all the plugs and the base timing on the next couple of days.

Yeah, I know some would says it's a waste but I have always ran premium in the Vette.
With the dist so loose I doubt the pcm could keep up with it's movements.
Could it have fried a spark plig or something? It sucks cuz the damn thing runs pretty good.

Hear any pinging? If not, you're good.
If you did and it wasn't heavy, you're good.

Ok Bill, what did I mess up? I get pinging at 3K + and tuner said we are at stock timing curves. If he pulls anymore we will be under stock.

Lots of moving and shaking this morning with everyone going back to school. I start classes again today but both the classes I took this semester are online which is a good/evil type thing for me. It means I have to make time to sit down and do the stuff on my own. But I can also get my work done while I'm not at home.

I am already finding it hard to focus on work in anticipation of my trip to PA the first week in Sept. This will be the first time my wife is going with me. She is excited to go and see where I grew up. We've been down to her hometown in GA a bunch of times in the 5 years we've been together.

She wants to take the Vette. That makes me nervous. I'm not sure if I trust it to make it all the way there and back. It didn't last year.

Don, I'm sure you'll knock their socks off!

Marcus, glad to hear that you are enjoying the C5.

Have a great day everyone!

We cruised rt611 in Stroudsburg, PA the Jamesway parking lot was the hang out spot. If you put your CB on the right freq you could actually broadcast through the PA system inside the store. If we weren't at the Jamesway then we were up the street a little at the Burger King. There were lots of black marks in both parking lots.

So, I work with some stupid people. One guy that works in the warehouse is just a mess, he drinks too much, has many health issues and is generally just a accident waiting to happen. So what do they do? Equip him with an air compressor and a framing gun...yup. Shot a ring shank nail right through his hand just missing the joint where his pinky attaches to his palm. ~sigh~

Wow, that is a clean 84. I happen to like those wheels on our C4's.

I'm sorry I can't help you with your issue. The digital dashes in these cars are notorious for the gremlins.

This is the adapter that lets you install the burned chip into the PCM board. I don't have a pic of mine installed.

You need to be able to pull the data from the PCM. Most of us use Datamaster http://www.ttspowersystems.com/

In order to do that you will need an ALDL cable. I bought mine from www.moates.net

In order to put the chips on the board inside the PCM you need an adapter that Moates sells also. Then in order to burn to the chip you will need either the burn1 or the ostrich from moates. They also have the APU1 which looks like it might do everything but it's $329 which at the time I started was too rich for my wallet.

If you learn to do it yourself you will be able to change the tune for whatever future mods you might do. I haven't learned how to do it yet.

Just another day at the office.

Matthew, landscape looks great. Major improvement from the before pic.

Tommy, that sounds like a deal on the SS appliances. Hopefully it's in "as advertised" condition.

Had a nice drive in, it is about 65*, I actually had to roll the passenger side window up because I got a little chill. I love this time of year.

Have a great day Guru's
