Yes, it's been a long time since I've done u-joints. Lots of CV axles instead.
Anyway, I got the u-joints in the shaft but they seems sort of stiff, is that right? There aren't any bind spots that I can feel, it's just not floppy. The ones that I took out would let the front yoke flop around pretty easily. I don't want to have to pull the shaft again in a couple weeks. Thanks, Jeff |

Just stiff is fine, as long as they aren't binding you should be good to go.

I had it happen where after I pressed one in it felt stiff. Just didn't feel right, can't really explain it. I took it out and put it back in, then it spun more freely. If you're not sure, doesn't hurt to push it out then back in once. If it's identical then you should be fine.

Don't know how accurate this is. But I had read a write up on changing unjoints. And they mentioned after you press the joint in and put the C clip in. Take something like a blunt chisel and put in on the cross on the opposite side you pressed it. Then take a hammer and gently tap on the chisel which will tap on the ujoint in the opposite direction it was pressed. May take 3-4 taps. But check to make sure it is fully free. If not, tap again.
When I did ujoints, I noticed the same thing. They were either stiff, or were stiff in certain places when I rotated the ujoint. Taping the ujoint in the opposite direction it was pressed loosened it up. They say when pressed on, it binds up the ujoint. But then again, putting the ujoint to use may also do the same thing and loosen it up some. |

I went with it as it was. Should get it off the stands tonight. For some reason now that I've had the C-beam bolts out a few times they don't seem like as much of a pain as they were that first time.
Matthew, that's exactly how mine was, it was nice and loose until I pressed it that extra hair to get the clip to seat then they were tight. Only on the yoke end too. The other end seemed ok. That's a good suggestion too Josh, Thanks. |
