I live in the bread basket of the world, western Kansas. I like it here because it's rural, basically a good work ethic of the people, low crime, cheap to live, good schools. Taxes are low (I pay $235 personal property taxes on all three of my cars, 01 Vette, 03 Bonneville and 99 Silverado), my house is valued at $200K and the taxes on it are $1200/year.

The biggest thing against it is 4 hours to any city of any size (3 1/2 to Peublo, CO, 4 to Wichita, KS, Colorado Springs and Amarillo, TX, Denver is about 5, and a little over 6 to Kansas City where we have two daughters and their families and 5 grandkids). We make to trek to KC about every 4-6 weeks. We can't really move there because we have one daughter and family (3 grandsons) local.

When we moved out here, the wife didn't like it (too far away from her family), I told her that we would stay only for a 3 or 4 years, to gain some experience (teaching) and we would move on, but after 30 years we're still here. The place just grew on us.

Weather typically isn't bad summers can get into the upper 90's to lower 100's, but the humidity is low so that makes it bearable. Winters can get pretty cold, 0* and below, but typically low teens are the norm. It is dry, average annual rainfall is around 12"/year. So there are not a lot of trees, wide open spaces. Being able to see 7-10 miles is not out of the ordinary. There is a little town 7 miles away and we can see the grain elevator from our house.

Man, I was just swamped today. I picked up a cabinet job and I told them I could have it done by Christmas, so with the day off school, I worked my azz off in the shop. I had a call mid morning to help a guy on a project he was working on, so that took 2 1/2 hours out, but I still got the cabinet carcasses put together by time to fix supper. I had the three grandsons here with me today as well, so it's been a zoo. The wife worked this morning and then she had a clinic scheduled to give out the H1N1 to kids and pregnant women late this afternoon and until 7pm. She's still not home as now she has to do the paperwork. The daughter came by just a few minutes ago and picked up the boys, so it's finally quiet here.

Tomorrow looks like another day in the shop, building the face frames, drawers and doors. I have to get these things pretty far along as Thanksgiving we are headed back to KC to work on the #3 daughters project of converting the garage to a master bedroom suite.

Weather here is beautiful.....and I'm stuck inside all day and into the evening with school (until noon) then parent-teacher conferences until 8pm. What a crock! I need to clean up the wife's Bonneville...maybe tomorrow as we have Friday off. I guess staying late today is worth it.

Supposed to be nice the rest of the week here. Man Tommy your schedule is busier than a guy who works! Matt I hope you can pick up an engine hoist cheap sounds like you need it. Brad after 40 years of smoking, I hope you can find something that works for you. I never started smoking, so that's one thing that I don't have to face.

Well, I was right...we got our azz handed to us on a platter. 62 - 0 first half. Second half they played nothing but JV and freshman and we finally scored on them. Ended up 62-22 wasn't pretty. Oh, well now we can concentrate on B-ball.

Other than the wind blowing here, it's pretty nice, 65*. I haven't had the Vette out in about two weeks. One bad thing about having a lift in the garage is that it's just not handy to drop it down and take the Vette for a spin. Tommy, sounds like a cool trip. Bill...bit me....wait, I guess when I retire I could move out there couldn't I?

Kids are flat out crazy today...must be the full moon...and no, my pants are pulled all the way up.

Football playoff game tonight...we'll probably get our butt kicked, I hope not, but the team we are up against is known for traditionally being pretty good. Other than that back to normal today.

Man I have missed the daily discussions....and nearly missed todays. We had testing all day today, so I was busy and tonight I've been working on a damn computer...anyone have a shotgun? I can't seem to find the slowdown culprit in it. The gal installed something that is making it crawl. I'm sitting here trying to find an answer and I thought I ought to check in. See you guys tomorrow.

Morning CGs. Supposed to be a cold wet and windy day today. Perfect day for football. Our last regular season game is tonight, if we win we will play at home the first round of playoffs on Tuesday. Most of the sickness has run it's course in our school, so most of the kids are back.

No, not dressing up, but I will be treating the kids that come by. I like to sit out on the front porch and meet the kids as they come around. I truly think that global warming might be happening, but I don't think that human life has had much, if any, impact on the happening. I think that the world goes through these cycles and we would be going through this with or without man. Al Gore is a f*#@king idiot.

Been a really busy day, here. Early morning meeting for the scholar bowl workers this morning (7am), I am the Alex Trebeck of our school, so I had to be there. Then I had lots of kids needing all sorts of help with their projects this morning, so this is the first opportunity I've had to check things out.

Don, I wouldn't worry about it , if you have to hand time, that's just the way it is sometimes. For years we had to hand time our swim meets, and we did it just like you described...throwout the slow and fast times and the official time is the one in the middle or if you have two that match.

Tommy, you look dog tired, you need to catch up on your sleep!

Matt, I don't envy you having to take that blessed starter back off, what a PITA.

Crash we see those Werner trucks all over, I guess from now on I'll have to wave.

We hit a big buck in our Honda Accord many years ago (18). When we hit it, it wiped out the front left fender, hood, grill, drivers side mirror, windshield, and drivers side door glass and we had scratches on the top of the car. All this happened while I was looking down at our service booklet, I felt the bump, and my daughter, who was driving, screamed. When I looked up I said "What did you hit, a dog?", She said "No, I hit a deer." When I got out I was amazed at the damage. It felt like a little bump. I can say that it was a tribute to that car. I was going to go pull the deer off the road as it didn't look too bad and I could have butchered it, but before I could get to it a semi ran over it.

Well, sorry about your issues with the 79 Matt. Hope you get it figured out. Should be a short week, there's lots going on this week. The wife will be gone for a few days to a meeting, and I have school activities Tuesday and Thursday nights. Not sure what else I have to do, but it will go by fast.

I watched two peewee football games yesterday (grandson). Came home and helped the wife clean some flower beds, went to church and then spent about three hours cleaning up a computer from all sorts of junk. Went to bed . This morning I'm finishing up on the computer and will go take the wife out to eat.

TGIF...been a week here. Colder that a witches t!t in a brass bra. Cold damp and windy is the forecast and a home football game tonight, good thing I'm the clock man, so I get to sit inside. Time will tell how many students are still gone today, my guess is quite a few. Brad Have a great week, that sounds like fun, I'd say make sure your "putter" is packed ;). Don, sounds like you're having too much fun planning this AX, it does sound like fun though. Matt, remember you just came off the weekend get in the right mood, remember it's Friday for most of us (sorry, don't mean to rub it in ).

Well, technically it's not exactly quarter round. Typically base shoe is 1/2 x 3/4 and has a rounded top edge, but we are splitting hairs here.

Update here this morning....so far my big class has been 3 students. This sickness is getting out of hand. It's a good thing that my classes are "work on your own" for the most part. I'm not sure how a "regular" teacher can even attempt to try and run a normal classroom. Here are my attendances so far today. 1st hour 3, 2nd hour 3, 3rd hour 1, now 4th hour 2. I've checked my computer and found out 5th hour I'll have 0 kids...but it looks like all my boys will be here last hour.

Amazing.....

Now, how do I get baseboard to fit an uneven hardwood floor? Especially when it bows during stain/finish. And it always bows the wrong way vs the floor. I really dn't want to scribe and beltsand.

Brad, at least you still have your music.

Well, Bill I was going to say scribe and fit, but you don't want to work that much (I don't blame you one bit). How much are you talking here? Are you going ahead and using base shoe? It is narrow enough to follow the contour somewhat. I had a job where the base was installed (not by me) and the client wanted to know if there was anything that could be done to cover the gaps (as much as 1/2"). I bought base shoe, stained, finished and installed it (400 lf). Once I was done, you couldn't tell that there were ever any gaps. Just a suggestion. I think that is what Brad was suggesting as well. Good call Brad.

Bill after rereading are you saying that the base was basically flat before stain and finish and now the base has bowed? What kind of stain and finish are you using...water soluble? As dry as you are out there they might be absorbing the water and bowing. Maybe if you let them sit for a few days they will straighten out some.

Morning guys. Still lots of sickness here at school. Nearly freezing this morning and the wind howled all night. My grandson has his last football game today, ought to be fun, cold, damp and windy. The younger grandson has his last games on Saturday...at least it's is supposed to warm up a little.

Don, I'm guessing that your fuel economy is going to drop some, but the fun factor should go way up...I'd say that was a great trade off.

Matt, don't they make a "sock" for those starters to ward off the heat? Seems they did way back when, can't believe that they don't have something like that today. Come to think of it, I think they were an asbestos product, so maybe they aren't available.

Everyone have a good day.

I wouldn't, get the airless unit. It picks up the paint and sprays it out under high pressure, atomizing the paint. Airless units are very good with the thick stains and paints that are used in home use situations. Automotive finishes are much thinner.

I used a cheap airless unit once....it worked great for applying the paint. I just had to use a roller to spread it out to where it was smooth and not spotty.

Today is a major change weather wise....cold, damp, and windy. I'm so glad that I washed all three vehicles yesterday so we could drive two of them in this crap today...what was I thinking? Tommy, I do hope you have the short version, because the long version stinks. After seeing the DR on Friday, I think I'm beginning to shake it.

Morning...I got the Corsa put on yesterday. She sure sounds sweet now. Back to a regular school day today. Looks to be another warm day here...78* predicted, but a little breezy. I need to get the wife's car washed and the Corvette cleaned up a bit. Today will have to be the day as it is to cool off and be rainy the rest of the week. I picked up a nice little cabinet job yesterday, about a $3500 job.

Have a good day, got to go.

LOL...If I were to leave that work to the SIL, it wouldn't get done at all. He's about as handy as t!ts on a boar. The other SIL up there is much handier, but still enlists my help for projects.

We have a teacher workday to get our grades done for the midterm. I have all my stuff done so I'm piddling around. I drove the Vette and I am going to put it up on the lift here and change out the exhaust. I bought a used Corsa Pace Car system and so I'll get that done today.

We had a faculty meeting this morning, and just when I start to think that education isn't too bad we have one of these and get preached at about AYP (adequate yearly progress) and I am glad this is my last year.

We were gone all weekend to visit the two daughters and families (both live in KC area, 400 miles across the state). We got to go to a swim meet and watch two of the granddaughters swim. We got to spend some time with the other two grand kids and the other pairs of grandparents. I also got some work done on the one daughters garage-to-bedroom conversion. I got 20 sheets of sheetrock put up, some ceiling and some walls. Thanksgiving is the next planned trip and I will probably be doing more then.

I hope that everyone has a good day

I have that same lift...they are nice. I can put the Corvette all the way up, the wife's Bonneville, I can put up about 3/4 the way up. The Pickup, I can get it up high enough that I don't have to crawl around on my back on the floor, and luckily I am still flexible enough to squat and do what I need to do on the pickup.

BTW, I have since added the aluminum ramps. They are very nice to have.

Not all women are like that. My wife understands, but then again, she has experienced death.

Not on lockdown anymore, no they didn't catch him, but they are reasonably certain he has left the county. TGIF

I just can't kick this crap, I broke down and I have a Dr. appt. this morning. Getting ready to head out right now.

Yea I watched that, the guy building them has no reality as to the safety of things. When he went to have them done the guy at first wouldn't do them because they weren't going to be safe, but the designer somehow convinced him to do it anyway.

Nah, there's a lot of difference between Tommy and the escapee. I did have the police call me here at home tonight, asking if I heard the kids talking about someone who was supposedly helping the escapee with shelter and clothing changes...one of our students. I told them what the kids were saying. I think they were going to check it out. I certainly hope they catch the guy.

Morning CGs. Our escapee is still on the loose. So I am assuming that we are still in lockdown mode. I went home yesterday afternoon and felt the worse I had all week, didn't feel like doing anything, napped until it was time to go to bed. I am awake this morning feeling better than I have all week. Maybe I worked it out.

Oh, it's going to warm up here today...looking for 70*. Yesterday we had a record low High temp 46*
