I wish mine looked that nice. My wife doesn't seem to understand that the "working conditions" are very important to the work that gets done. I have been considering something like "Race Deck" flooring, but with my income Race Deck is out of the question. The garage is around 440 sf and at Race Deck prices that would set me back around $2000. I'm wanting something in the $5-600 range.

The "Race Deck" type of flooring will keep it more comfortable in the winter time, because it gets your feet up off of the concrete. I have found a couple of options that I need to look into a little closer.

I don't know of too many options that will fit your circumstances, Don. The electric is the most viable option, but those CAN run the bill up. A fiend of mine has a little electric heater that he says works great and he said, it didn't really affect his bill (actually his wife told me it didn't make a significant difference in their bill). I would guess you have to decide if you can deal with the cold for a couple of months or handle some higher electric bills for a little bit.

Here's one that I have posted on "that other site" of the 1964 coupe that I had 30 some odd years ago. Don't flame me too bad as 1. these were common mods to these cars back then. and 2. It wasn't a pristine car before the mods were done. :angel9:

Just as soon as I get past tire pressure checking and dip stick reading I'll certainly consider what you have suggested. I'm still learning a lot about the tools. I think somebody sold me a set of left handed wrenches.

There's nothing wrong with your wrenches, they are for the left hand side of the car. You need to get a right hand set for the other side.

I was going to say that the wrenches you had were for the drivers side....but Case would have argued with me about that!

Only one more day of school this (calendar) year! Merry Christmas to all you out there.

Yup Case, what brand are those? Back when I was a kid, the tri-y's were the way to go for the low end torque. They lack a bit in the higher RPM range but most people who drive on the street don't use that part of the RPM range as much anyway. The only problem I see with your tri-y's is that I'm not sure if there are provisions for cats. Do you have those on your 94, Case?

Still around, but too bad they aren't tri-Y design. those babies are really good for low end torque.

Andy, I would hope that the LT1 should last longer than 164K, but it obviously has some issues. The engine you've located sounds to be a pretty good deal and should get you up a running quicker than rebuilding the engine that's in there.

What's the status on Bastet's car? Is it running yet?

Been a busy day for me. Just jump in and get started. I did lots of auto work as a kid (a long time ago), then I got married...kids, family responsibilities, etc. Then after I get all three daughters married off I find my auto skills again (just a bit tougher to do some of them as I'm not the young buck I was 30+ years ago) If I can do this so can you, but I know what you mean about having a "buddy" around to help you out with these projects..

I'm just a couple of years away from retiring from teaching. I'll take it as soon as I can. It won't be one of those retirements where I can quit working, just one that I can find a job which I don't have to work full time.

My principal is pretty good as are the other teachers I work with, it's just everything else (politics involved with education) that I am tiring.

I guess the question is what/how are you going to drive your Vette? What do you expect out of your tires? If you are looking for mileage then Sumitomos aren't a good choice. My Falken ZE512's have given me pretty good mileage but I don't really consider them a top notch performance tire (but then again that is not what I am using my Vette for).

You have to ask yourself those questions and answer them frankly and honestly.

I would hate to see you leave Case, but I do understand where you are coming from. When you get to CO, let me know as I'd still like to meet you.

BTW I voted that you're a F***ing lunatic, but it has nothing to do with your thinking about selling the Vette.

Macs have it over the PC for the type of work you do CSS996, I'll give you you that one. But I'm a PC guy too. My daughter and her hubby are both IT people and they deal with PCs Windows/Unix/Linux but when they go home they have their Mac. It's just hard for me to warm up to it.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. I have to admit, the car was in pretty good shape when I bought it (94k). But I have worked to get it as near perfect as I can. I do drive it though. The trip to Tennessee/North Carolina put about 3500 on it in the 10 days we were gone. On the "Dragon Run" I had an axle u-joint start squeaking. I made it home OK and have since replaced all the axle joints and have the drive-shaft joints ready to replace as one of my winter projects. The car now has 114k+.

Andy, you know I have done several projects on my 94. I always start out with great intentions of documenting the process, but somewhere in the middle of the actual doing it, I forget to take those pictures because I am so focussed on getting it done. I'll try to do better with this as I continue work on the white beast.

I do want to say that I really appreciate those that have written tech articles.

The email you sent out got me to log on again after a long absence. The site is much more responsive. Things over at the "other place" just aren't the same and a bit stuffy. And beings I spend most of my time in the C4 arena I may as well spend it here.

I'm getting along pretty well, just a bit of bleeding through the nose (as to be expected).....sounds as though I'm doing much better than Case. Case I hope you can get things worked "in" and held in, those things can linger for a long time.

Casey, I do hope you find some relief. I had some minor surgery yesterday. I had my sinuses cleaned out and right now I'm feeling a bit wrung out. Dr. says no work for a couple of days. I hope you come out well.

Case, and others, Thanks for the replies. My gaskets are not leaking, but won't they have a tendency to, once I take them off? My 94 has almost 109K on the clock should they still be OK? .I ordered a set today, before I read your replies, I guess I'll just have them "in case". I suppose that the same goes for the seals that go around the valve cover bolts?

What do you all think about valve stem seals? I assume that I will have to remove them when I change out the springs, should I go ahead a replace them? If I do need to replace, should I go back with Genuine GM or is there something better out there?

Thanks for all the help here.

I am getting ready to do Roller rockers, LT4 valve springs, pushrods, etc. Which gaskets should I buy? The Fel Pro valve cover gaskets I found on Summit racing show "All LT1 Except Corvette" What's different about our engine? Do I need new gaskets that go on the valve cover bolts as well or are they included with the valve cover gaskets themselves. I also need to know which valve stem seals I should buy.

Part numbers for all would be great.

When you say overheats, just how hot does it get? They actually tend to run pretty warm and 230-240 doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary when sitting still. These cars are bottom breathers (intake under front bumper), and air flow is not the greatest when sitting still. Another thing that you might want to check is the build-up of junk between the AC condenser and radiator, because they also tend to act like a vacuum cleaner and suck up all sorts of road debris.

There is a tech tip on how to remove the radiator and clean the junk out. Here's one that I wrote and posted on "another forum". http://www.crossedflags.com/nuke/html ... =&order=0&thold=0

I just want to say that I love the articles that Andy has done. I am printing them off and putting them in my folder to refer to. Although I am not in the process of doing any of those projects yet, if/when I do there it is. How about doing an article on replacing rocker arms/valve springs? This one job that I am serioulsy considering doing this spring/early summer. I am thinking about swapping out the LT1 Springs for LT4 (springs, retainers, valve seals, etc) and putting on LT4 Roller Rockers. I do not want to take the heads off.

A picture story would be fantastic. And if anyone (bogus; hint hint) would like to come to Kansas and help me do this and do the story, well that would be great.
