Hey Raidmagic, wasn't your car the feature/cover car for the October 2010 issue of "Vette" magazine? I have that issue! That's your car!! Beautiful job on both the 1:1 and the 1:25!

Car modeling has been a passion of mine for as far back as I can remember. I was away from the hobby for many years, but got back into it a few years ago. Like you, they never made an exact kit of my '92 coupe, so I made one myself: http://cs.scaleautomag.com/SCACS/forums/p/99230/939475.aspx#939475.

I've had some good luck at local model contests with these two as well:

Ron

You do some nice work, Ron! Got any more pics to share?

I have a profile on the SA site, but I can't seem to login to it. But I have been posting a little on the Model Cars forum - I just like the forum layout better for some reason. And I don't have a bunch, but feel free to check out my model car pics.

Trae, I did not know that. The interior is perfect other than the drivers seat, I'll post them for sale for C-3 guys too.

I haven't tried it myself, but from what I understand, they're pretty much a bolt-in replacement for the stock C3 belts. Considering the cost of stock refurb/replacement, its a popular option. If they're a common color, they should sell pretty quickly.

Just an FYI, lots of C3 guys use the rear seat belts out of those. You could probably make some decent money off of them, assuming they're still there and in decent shape.

That would be the place to start. Mine did the same thing when we first got it back on the road. New fluid and a couple of bottles of Posi Additive smoothed it right out.

I'll take a look through my collection, but I don't have much C4 stuff.

You could also search eBay for "AMT ZR-1". There's lots of kits and promos on there reasonably priced - you might score one for pocket change.

Oh, and those promos were produced by Ertl I believe, and should be 1:25 scale.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea. I remember seeing sealed kits and diecast in their cases, but I don't recall if they have any "built" ones.

When I get tired of it collecting dust in my cabinet, I may just take it up there.

Nice catch!

Yes, I vacuum-formed the windsheild out of .010" clear plastic. The original was way too thick to look realistic, so I just used it as the master.

Here's the original:

How much of those scale models do you fabricate yourself, and how much is from a kit?

Thanks!

In regards to "scratch-building" (building from raw materials), it really depends upon the model. This one is mostly kit parts, but from several different kits - you can tell that from the different colors of plastic. The spots where you see "basic" shapes in white plastic, such as the upper control arm mounts and rear chassis extension, were created from raw plastic stock. And in this case, the body is actually a cast resin replica of an old out-of-production kit body.

I also turn some aluminum parts, like the outer rim of the wheels.

Not really a “collectible”, but I thought you guys might appreciate it anyway.

I started building scale model cars over 20 years ago, long before I got into this full-size stuff. Although I don’t get to do it nearly as often anymore, it’s still a fun hobby and I try to finish one every now and then. Not to mention, it’s a heck of a lot cheaper to build hot rods in 1:25 scale. I rarely build a straight-forward, “stock” model – customs, “what-ifs”, and unique subjects are just too much fun.

I’m currently putting the final touches on this one. The idea was … what would the Motion guys do with the old Astro-Vette concept? Here’s what I came up with.

I’ve also got a bunch more pics, with several in-process shots, right here.

to what these guys have said.

Mine acted exactly the same at one time. I'm guessing your headlights go up rather slowly (?)

When the headlights go up, the two moving linkages travel past center and "lock" in place with the help of the assist springs. It sounds like your system is providing enough vacuum to raise the lights when you turn them on, but not enough to "unlock" the linkages when you turn them off. In the meantime, you can lower them by hand by reaching underneath and pulling downward on the forward linkage, but be careful not to pinch off your fingers!

Hope this helps!

My DD is an '03 Dakota 2WD w/o ABS - driving that in our snowy hills can be adventureous.

The easy answer is ... as much as you can afford.

What scale are you considering? HO, 1:32, 1:24?

My table is about 4' by 13'.
The 1:32 oval is roughly 25ft in track length, and that isn't much. If I were going to set up a road course, I don't think I would consider anything less than about 40ft.
The HO course is also roughly 25ft, and I would consider it average size for a 4-lane home setup. If I were doing a 2-lane, I would certainly go longer.
