nice!

We need to get some photoshop training... that product can do some wack stuff... and the folks who can abuse it really can get something special out of it.

Great!

The basic idea 3 years ago was to turn this into a published magazine... but that idea faded...

my current idea is to take advantage of Amazon's modern version of the vanity press and make something happen. If nothing else, we could become a DIY for automotive repairs book publisher. never know.

hm... I would take advantage of time.

To me, a failure that is heat related means something is soon to die. I would start checking the wiring very closely.

There is a great book out there, called "Corvette Fuel Injection and Electronic Ignition: 1982-2001," by Charles Probst. It's a great primer on how this works.

My only thought... if you can make the EGR work, it will help... it does one thing via another thing (follow that logic :thumbright: ).

The EGR helps lower NOx emissions. That's what it does... but it does it by introducing a touch of exhaust back into the combustion chamber. This, in effect, cools the charge. The other thing it does is lowers the chance of detonation.

The transmission is turned for MPG (which, by extention means emissions). Mess with it too much and your economy will go right out the window!!! I know gas is pricy in Oz, so you might want to go easy there... but I see your point.

Very interesting stuff! Have you found a dyno to test it on?

that's a different problem, casey!

I had a guy with a 92 vert, and someone ran his two temp sensors to the same source!!! This was their quick fix for a bad wire to the head sensor... unbelieveable.

the pre-1991 vettes have wiring made up of different materials. The insulation is no where NEAR as resistant to heat and chemicals as the later wiring. Somewhere around 1990, the SAE decided to change the composition of the wiring... that made a huge difference in the durability of engine harnesses.

I suggest that people check the relay connectors and anything related to the harness whenever there is a wacky problem like this.

It would have to be a real vivid yellow... one that would show off on the banners.

Then again, with black boarders and font, it might work....

I know that book was called "All Corvettes Are Red." Whatever...

When you think C4, what colour do you envision?

We are trying to come up with unique colour themes for each gen... as it stands, we are going to ulitmately have 3 main boards.

One board will cover C1, 2 and 3, and other for C4 and one more for C5 and C6. We are doing it this way due to traffic issues/load balancing and, in many ways, common underpinnings.

So far, we have come up with Red/Black/White for the C4 section. Bastet44 likes that combo (and I agree), because those are the colours of the C4 emblem.

For the C1, 2, 3 forum, we are thinking Torquise/Black/White and for the C5/C6 forum a Sunset or Daytona Orange/Black and white combo.

The first colour in the list is the detail colour, banners, boarders title bars. The 2nd is for font, and the third, the text back ground.

So basically, we are looking for a primary colour to be the theme for each site.

I am not doing this as a poll... just too many options over the years.

Thoughts?

they can get slow... they can get wacky... they can act weird... all of witch may or may not throw a code. failure would result in a code.

however, check the relays and the wiring to and from the relays, first.

on the pre 1991 C4s, that's a real problem - overall harness durability.

This has been said, and will now be said officially.

My wife, Bastet44 and I have taken over C4 Guru, plus all the other Guru domains (C3 and C5 - more on them later).

Initially, there won't be any changes. Mostly, because we need to research new hosting sites and software.

But those changes will come.

A few things that will and won't happen:

1. You will never see an ad embedded within a post.

2. You will see sponsorship. It will help the forum grow.

3. This is not a dictatorship. It's that simple. However, as admin, we will NOT tolerate stupidity. Ignorance is one thing, but we will not put up with stupidity.

4. Coarse language... a real touchy subject. However, we want this to be a family friendly resource, so it has to stay at PG. We don't want this site put on office ban lists. Besides, many of the new C4 owners are teens.

5. New sections. We really want to start an eBay forum. Where funny, absurd and just plain silly eBay ads can be posted.

6. For Sale. You can post items (or cars) for sale there, or, post your eBay ad. We know eBay has a greater reach. All we ask is you place a reference to C4 Guru in your eBay ad. Maybe link them to a picture in your Guru ad.

7. CSS996 has kindly offered to provide some of his Photoshop skills! Thanks! Also, a close friend of mine back east is a graphics artists. So expect some look changes.

8. Most importantly, expect performance changes.

9. The biggest change will come in time... how we handle archives. Stay tuned.

Thanks for your patience as we go through this process. It will take time, and we are sure that mistakes will be made. Just bear with us! We look forward to hearing your comments and thoughts!

Thanks and enjoy!

Andy & Tamiza

ramps won't do it... you really need to get all 4 corners off the ground.

may I suggest:

http://www.drivewerks.com/catalog/sho ... L/POR_TOOL_ACHyd1_pg1.htm

That is by far the BEST floor jack, on earth, period. No questions asked. I have one and LOVE IT.

It ain't cheap... but it rocks... and lifts 29".

And a pair of these:

http://www.drivewerks.com/catalog/sho ... L/POR_TOOL_ACHyd1_pg5.htm

Well, all 4 actually.

It is the best $900.00 you will EVER spend. It's a one time investment in your health and wellbeing.

drop the exhaust.

remove the knob

remove the console

remove the rubber boot.

remove the old shifter

reverse process.

It ain't all that hard. I saved mine for a clutch change.

you can freshen them. Remove the old fabric, and then clean up the plastic.

Using contact cement, you can reapply some new speaker grill material.

Have you called vette2vette? www.vette2vette.com.

welcome aboard!

First off, allow me to introduce you to the "enter key." It really helps to read these long posts when they are not one long run-on sentence.

Code 36 is a fav... it means the optispark isn't long for this world.

I can't explain the battery drain.

My 92 is doing something similar with all the fireworks (DIC lighting up and such). As soon as I figure that one out, I will let you know.

However, many of the codes can be caused by cascading problems.

There is no doubt in my mind you need a new Opti. I suggest MSD, or, call Chris May at Superior Chevy, 1.800.728.8267. Tell him I sent you. He gives deals to C4 Guru members.

you'll hear from me...

yes, I am taking this over.

Things have been very busy in our lives right now. We have been planning and executing our two separate wedding receptions on two separate coasts!

We are already checking out software... and conversion will be important. I want to save as much of this as is possible.

And a new ISP is #2. The software sucks, the ISP swallows.

Now... lets see if this saves....

code 26 is a quad driver. that's a really nebulous code, IIRC.

what is the maintenance history like? recent tune ups? fuel filter?

have you tested the fuel pressure?

yuck. I agree, with divergent problems of that nature, the harness is my #1 suspect, too.

There is no easy way to reach that... however, you might get lucky... the harness in question is more than likely the one that goes into the dash, behind the EGR valve area - near where the engine/tranny mate up.

It is bolted to the fire wall and is basically a large, multi-pin connector.

It can be taken apart at the firewall, and the engine side brought up for service.

There is also a chance that something melted the wiring, too. Or, any number of things have chaffed and shorted out.

It will require removal of the emissions plumbing - the EGR and such - to make for easier access.

Good luck in Iraq, and Gods Speed. Come back for Thanksgiving in one piece!!!! :angel7:

the best part about this place, we don't have any rules.

the only requirement, as I see it, is that we are honest and the supplier is honest. I would not want to hunt you, or the vendor, down... it would not be pretty.

yes, please, feel free to ask... but keep it in the thread. That way others can learn from your experiences!

I agree, check the plugs, but I suspect the gasket is failing, but not yet died. This is called "the perfect situation."

It sucks it has failed, yes, but it sucks more when coolant dumps into the crankcase. Ask me how I know.

I would start by removing all the plugs. check each for water.

a slight wisp tells me there isn't anything SERIOUS. Also, how did the oil look?

What is the condition of the cooling system?
