Sounds like Texas.....

Remember the first guy in who shot the burglars in his neighbor's house? Here's another...

Llano man shoots two would-be thieves

Newsroom

The Castle Doctrine may be put to the test in Llano county after two would-be burglars are shot by a neighbor. Resident Chuck Wolfington says it's not uncommon to hear a few gun shots now and then, but he says something was different about yesterday when he heard 5 gunshots in a row.

He told FOX7 news that after hearing the shots he went outside and saw his neighbor Tommy Oats - gun in hand - running towards a near-by house. Oats later told Llano County Sheriff's Deputies that he was looking outside and saw two men trying breaking into his neighbor's house and he took action.

Deputies says one of the men got away, the other is was taken to Brakenridge Hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck. He was taken off life-support late Thursday.

The D.A. is reviewing the case, but Oats has not been charged. The state law known as the 'Castle Doctrine' was expanded recently not just to inside a home but to parked cars and even to the homes of next-door neighbors.

Glad it worked out. I need to switch over to 134a, but I need a new condenser before I do that....more work. Oh well. Maybe next summer.

I'm assuming the original was a flat tappet? Can you change to a roller? What's involved in that? Do you plan on it?

Looks good so far - keep the pics comin!

I've been on both ends of that. I prefer when it works in my favor

Ebay can be finnicky - one days an item is hot, the next day it's dead. Like said above, it also depends if it falls on a weekend, what time it ends, etc, etc. Plus, I've found the more pics you have and the better description, the better it sells, usually.

Well, got a good afternoon's rest....ready to do a little workout now.

Dave - glad you're back into the lifting, like we briefly talked about the other day. I can't get my wife to shoot at all. I have tried, but she is scared of guns. One time she saw some girls shooting on tv and said, "well, it looks like fun, maybe I'll try it..." but that hasn't materialized. You need to have your wife call mine...

Ron - I bought the SLPs because they were cheaper, lol. I heard they don't flow as well out of the box, but can be siamesed for better results. I wanted AS&M, but they are about $425 on the website and it's hard to find them used (I've been looking). I got the SLPs on ebay from the WS6 store shipped for $295. It's my "budget" build up.

Hope everyone's day was great!

Matthew

PS - ...incredible set of sunglasses....

Thought about buying a 92 mustang. Almost did, too, but it sold before I could go look at it. Was looking at late 70s Z28s before I bought the vette, too.

Something I *wish* I had done was bought a blower before I asked the wife permission....HA!

Good morning CGs!

How is everyone's day so far? I'm sure everyone's excited for the weekend. Not me, of course, but all you lucky folks who will be enjoying the sunshine and free time.

Well, I took the first step to becoming poorer yesterday. I bought my SLP runners online. It's only a baby step, but you know they say once you start modding you can't stop. After this I have some more work to do, and I have to order new injectors. I figure if I do it a little at a time the wife can't complain as much - ha!

So what are everyone's plans for the weekend? Anyone playing hooky from work today?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good point.

I am considering the ostrich emulator by Moates ($175). That was I could make real time changes to the car with a laptop. Anyone have any experience with it? I have zero experience when it comes to tuning, but I'm sure I could pick it up quick. The ostrich system uses Tuner Cat software, which I understand is pretty good.

Thoughts?

I've noticed the same thing, Chris. The only way I can tell is if it's on the home page or if I look at the date it was posted and it's recent. A color change would be nice.

Well, I understand that when you make big mods, a chip is required (ie heads/cam). But the stock computer is capable of making adjustments to a certain point, I just don't know what that point is. It is very versatile in itself.

Just making a simple mod doesn't require a chip or a retune. My ultimate question is at what point is it required? Anyone have hard #s?

Thanks again,

Matthew

BTW, my 89 is a MAF

Good morning CGs!

Gee, Chris, I sleep in late *one* time and you have to go and do *this*. It's the 28th today (not Thursday Chat 08.20.08) You're trying to rob us of days we've already lived.

Anywho, I did sleep in late today. Was up a little with the rugrat last night, which is unusual, so I can't complain much. She is a great baby and generally sleeps through the night.

It's back to work for me tonight. I have three more days working midnights, then I get to go back to days. I'm pretty happy about that since I will live like a normal person again. Daily chat may suffer, though, since I have to wake up pretty early and more than likely won't be logging on until after I get home. I'm sure someone is willing to pick up the slack!

Anywho, yesterday's trivia question:
Who was the first US president to occupy the White House?

The answer is this man:

Resized Image

John Adams, second President of the US.

Guess that one was a toughie!

Anywho, that's it for me. Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

THURSDAY JOKE OF THE DAY:

An oldie, but still makes me smile....

Snake bite:

A couple of friends were playing a round in a rather remote course in the tropics of North Australia. After several holes one needed to relieve himself, so he walked into the rough, dropped out his thing and began to pee. Alas, as he was in mid-stride, an enormous snake slid up and bit his thing. The man screamed for help, and when his friend came told him what happened and asked him to get help.

His friend ran back to the clubhouse, saw the doctor, and asked what could be done. The doctor told him to treat snake bites you make a small cut where the bite is, then suck until all the poison comes out. After thanking the doctor he ran back to his friend.

When he was back the friend asked, "What did the doctor say?"

His friend replied, "Sorry pal, you're going to die."

Well, I also posted this on CF, but I don't really expect too many responses there since it doesn't involve an airfoil or floormats.

Just as the title suggests, that is my question. I plan on doing some mild upgrades, and want to know at what point the factory computer is limited in its adjustments and a chip is required?

My current plans are mildly ported/siamesed stock plenum, slp runners, siamesed stock intake. I also have front cats deleted, magnaflow catback. I will also be replacing my injectors and am debating between 22 and 24 lbs from FIC.

At a cost of $200 for a chip, I'm also considering getting the OBD cable myself w/tuner cat and the ostrich emulator. It wouldn't cost that much more, and if I decide to do heads/cam in the future I could tune myself.

Comments?

Wow, just dropped two bills at the pool store...somehow this is reminding me of my vette...every time I go to do one thing it costs me $200....Oh well.

Chris, you're on the right track. Keep adding a little more distance each time you are jogging and you'll get there buddy. Here's a good article on the difference between aerobic and anaerobic exercise:

http://www.e-health-fitness.com/defin ... bic_activity-exercise.htm

http://www.e-health-fitness.com/types_of_aerobic_exercise.htm

Hope this helps.

Good morning CGs!

How is everyone's day so far? I got up, still a little sore from yesterday's workout, and started putzing around the house. Cleaned up the bedroom, changed the sheets, picked up all the laundry....and my wife says I don't do anything!

Still have some errands to do. I have to go to the pool store and get some shock (pool looks like crap...I've been slacking). Gonna try to get the truck washed and do a few other various things. What are your plans for today?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Without any codes, I'd say it's more ignition module and less opti.

Rich -

BTW, I had some free time today, so I played with the car a little. Finished doing my FSM steps for the fuel system and narrowed it down to....you guessed it....leaky injectors. So my previous "scientific guess" was ok...lol. Anywho, the wife wasn't too keen on my idea of heads and a cam, but I'm still gonna do the intake work, SLP big tubes, ported/siamesed plenum, and possibly LT or shorty headers. Do you think I'll need 24s for that? What about a chip - any ideas there?

Thanks,

Matthew

Oh, and the car ran *great* today after doing all my tests...I adjusted the TV cable and that helped, too.

Looks nice so far. Can't wait to see the numbers!

One question - freeze plugs look like they are pressed in, is that correct? I've seen some aftermarket blocks that have them threaded, which seems stronger to me. Any comment?

I can understand that totally, with the heads and cam a larger injector would suit you much better.

What power level are you expecting when its all done?

And yeah, were really excited about the kit, saves a lot of money, and tons of time

Once done, I'd be happy w/300 at the crank. I don't need a lot, just to spice it up a little. That's 55 over stock (for my 89).
I have ohmed my injectors, they test fine hot and cold, but I still have that little hard start problem. Also, the performance doesn't seem consistent. Some days it feels much stronger than others. I still have a few more tests to do, but I'm convinced my injectors are leaking. Just a feeling (yes, very scientific, I know). I already replaced the FPR. I just don't want to do everything twice (at a 3 hour job to replace the injectors) and pay twice. But, like everyone else, I don't want to dump $2,000 in all at the same time, even though that's the best way to do it. My first step was going to be porting the plenum/intake and big tube runners, with the head/cam package to follow later. I may have to rethink that.

Oh, and for guys wondering, that's a great price for the extra gaskets, etc. Just the o-ring kit alone from gm is about $28. Plus the convenience of it all makes it well worth the price.

Wow that is a good idea. One stop shopping is where it's at.

Here's a question - What upgrades will the bosch IIIs handle on the motor? For example - I (eventually) plan on the following, whenever I get around to it - headers w/exhaust, ported plenum, big tube runners, ported intake, mild cam, ported heads (possibly), chip. Will the 22s support that? Or will I need to upgrade to the 24s? I don't want to buy 22s and then 6 months from now need to upgrade injectors.

I don't know - I've heard the cops are tough there...

On a true note, though, my buddy moved to Vegas two years ago from Chicago and loves it out there. My cousin is going to Utah on Friday to go mountain biking, too, so I guess it's a great place for that. I've driven through Colorado and what a great scenic place. I could see myself living there.

Keep us posted on your decision, because we're having a party at your new place.

Wouldn't surprise me at least, they had so many great tunes, but having hollywood on your side never hurts.

As much as it pains me to say it, CC is correct

Aerosmith's first #1 hit came as a result of the blockbuster movie "Armageddon" in 1998.

Skirlin - BTW, Sweet Emotion is my favorite song by them. And despite the fact it is used in the movie "Dazed and Confused" it was not on either of the movie soundtracks. Apparently they wouldn't release the rights for the cds. Weird.

Also, for anyone who doesn't know, a 54" chest with some 20" guns is ginormous...lol. A 31" waist makes it even more impressive. I'm more into athletic conditioning, but I love to lift. I've been doing a lot of plyometrics, various cardio, and core/strength training workouts the past few months. At the end of next month I'll be back to doing some concentrated weight lifting with a little cardio in between.

Good Morning Gurus!

Sorry, I do not have enough of a clue to guess on the Trivia.

Are you saying that you don't have a clue in general (as I suspected before) or the question is unclear? Or you just need a hint? If there are no guesses, a hint will be in order.
