TJ WOng did a write up on the other forum a few years ago. I will try to post up the pics. Basically someone put cats in past the factory shielding and it got a little hot. So,he installed the shielding and I beleive shallow pop rivets? to hold it up. DEI probably makes some good stuff too, but getting it to stay up is why TJ WOng did it more than once.

I also used a finger nail polish on the bolt threads to nut to verify over time whether or not it backed off any.

Reload it. It should ask you to remember on initial run. If you checked the box that pops up one time it will not come back.

Here is a Vette you dont see too often. Looking through it gave me a sense of how ahead of their time they were. Angled seats, diff coolers, spherical rod end links, etc etc. Pretty fancy considering the date. It was signed by Greenwood on the dash.

IN a nutshell, he said I cant as it is like a pell grant.

I am currently letting my wife use my GI BILL, which is a great benefit I am able to give to her for her continued higher education. I know she is smarter than me, hence, lets send her to get her Masters etc.
Anyways, the GI BILL literally sends the tuition needed to the college she is going to.
So, can I claim this on my taxes as college expenses? I cant find any literature to say yes or no. It just states on the form you use to figure it out as college expenses, not how you got the money.

So many things affect a dyno. Think about the simple day at the track. Air, Temp, Tire temps, oil and water temps. So many things can affect a dyno run.
A 700 hp car is going to show differences, more so than a 300 hp car on the same dyno.
Dynos are just a tuning tool, and it needs to be tuned and dynod the same day to see gain or loss.

What about making a thicker cap for the end of the spring? A small amount may equal a lot by the time it is measured at the end of the a-arm.

The end of the spring flexes allot. You can take a piece of wood and actually raise it within the a arm while jacked up.
I think, just my opinion, you get more lift via the center.
I did already put delrin pads on the ends to a little larger factory height, 3/4 vs 5/8 for the factory.
I think it also affects spring tension the more you put on the end as it tightens the spring more as you are pushing it up.

As long as it fits on the pump. You will know if it is wrong. If it is correct it slips right on.

We talked about this Sunday night... it makes sense, I guess. You take the spring farther away from the chassis, effectively raises the ends.

Would it also effect spring rate?

It doesnt affect spring rate at all. It actually just raises the car up.
Slotting the spacers was a thing I thought of doing to ease the whole taking the spring out. All I would have to do is raise the vehicle, loosen the center aluminum spacers which lowers the spring down and relieves tension, then slide the spacers in.

Doesn't seem worth doing just the sock. If I'm gonna replace I'll get the racetronix kit that has a pump, sock, and all the hardware. It kinda seems that this is where I'm heading.

When you get the racetronix pump, ensure you have the correct sock. They sent me the wrong one. No biggie. It was a stock FORD MUSTANG GT 5.0 fuel pump sock, and fuel pump.... 255 lph

Raising the Vette....Question

Well, I know it is sacrilege to raise a lowered Vette. But mine is too low to accommodate the tires I have etc.
So I was thinking, raise it a quarter of inch, to alleviate the front tires hitting within the hood fender area.
Its an arduous process, time consuming. So, I thought of a simpler way to do it.
I already have pad eyes on the end of the springs, but the center wedge has no aluminum plates as it did when it was at factory height.
So, take the aluminum plates and cut a slot through the holes so you can just put the plate in like a shim from the side. It would be easy, just raise the vette, loosen the center brackets down and then put the shims in each side.
Supposedly the shims are 1.4 inch and that is what height change you will get with each on put in.
Discuss.

I just threw a pump away. Oh well, sorry about that. I bought a Racetronix. Cheap, compared to dealer, and provides enough fuel for my engine as the factory one was not enough with the 42# injectors.
Shouldnt be going through pumps that often.IMHO

You know, now that you mention it, I think it's always happened on a left turn. Funny.

When I run the car easy (no sharp turns) it runs fine, no stalls. But lets face it this car was made to take sharp turns so......

Any input is appreciated. Thanks

C4's are known for fuel loss on cornering. If you have over a 1/4 tank you shouldnt have this problem. Below it, its common when cornering hard , especially autocrossing etc.

Both times that it happened I probably had about 1/4 or just short. But let's say that it happens on a full tank, like what Bogus described, could it be the sock? Car has 114K and the pump and related gear are likely original.

I guess it's time to renew AAA and test out the theory (that is when the ice and snow goes away). I can't wait to move back to South Florida.

Thanks for the info.

Pumps are pretty reliable. The sock could (okay it is black and nasty). Takes about an hour to take it out and change.

Had a great time meeting everyone. Now you all need to come to Hawaii as a collective group. Go to Long Beach, ship your Vettes out, and Chevelle, and I will take care of them till you come out. ;)

Napa Premium rotors are used by many at the track, and they are relatively cheap. I use OEM rotors. A friend had 30k miles on his 03 ZO6, and he bought fancy rotors. He gave me his. Had them turned for 20 bucks total.
I would just turn the rotors and re-bed the pads.

Now, being as this will go to an in-state registered owner, changes things. He would either be asked to pay the ticket, or indicate who is driving if it isn't him. I don't believe he's obligated to disclose who it is though. Obviously, if you don't want to get him involved or ask him to do something he's not comfortable with, then just have him ID you and wait for it to show up in the mail and decide then.

Maybe you should borrow my car, I'll never rat you out, I promise!

LOL. A Vette for the next couple weeks would be nice. It definitely would be speeding in your car. And, I can have a letter generated up saying I was never here, ;)

I hope so, I was in a truck and I was doing just wanting to make a right turn, so there is no way in Cali. that I would run a light. Here you need to check to make sure there is no traffic for miles, just to be safe.

I approached a traffic light, red, two nights ago. I came up to, and before I completely stopped it flashed twice. I then stopped as I had intended, then turned right and moved on.
Did I just get a ticket?

The bad part about is that I looked at it every-time I walk by it.

Yea, that does suck. I have a mark on my hood (from something else) that I look at every time too.

I really lucked out, I had put the white styrofoam insulation in my garage door panels. I had the door open when I first did this. Jacked the hood points 3/8ths of an inch into the styrofoam.

I'll bet we're not the only C4 owners who've done this.

My radiator cap was off and the hood slammed, and spider webbed my paint on my hood.

I have brand new GM washers in a bag waiting to be installed with the bearings.
I was just thinking the surface it touches could be polished real good so it will be slicker/smoother so the potential for clicking/popping when the teflon wears will be less.

I do need to ensure the washer goes on correctly too.

I could polish the living crap out of the mating surfaces the washer rides against.

Well, GM wouldnt spend money if they didnt have a reason for this. I bet Gordon Killebrew knows why.

How about a dry lubricant that impregnates the metal once ruffed up? Is there such a thing?

Its not like a C4 creaking and cracking isnt normal. What would we do if it were quite.

The washers are steel. The coating may be teflon but it looks like paint, is thin like paint, and comes off like paint.

Stick your frying pan in vise between two pieces of flat steel and see how it holds up.

I am with you. I was just reading how quickly these coatings come off. So, I may go ahead and do it. It is a thin coating too.
I was remembering use of teflon coated spherical rod ends. No grease is recommended. But with rubber boots on them, grease wouldnt hurt.

CC, Thanks for the tips. I will antizieze the washers, and get some cotter pins.
I may try not removing the half shafts to do the bearings. I know you can. Just patience.

I had the same question about antiseize when I did mine. I originally put it on there thinking it was a good idea, but on the advice of PeteK I took them off and cleaned the antiseize off. He told me that attracts more dirt and wears them out faster. Made sense so I took his advice.

Matthew

HMM?

Maybe I wasn't 100% clear. This refers specifically to the teflon washers. Pete told me not to put antiseize on the teflon washers, so I wiped off what I had already put on.

Matthew

You were 100% clear. I was thinking about the teflon washers needing it once before, and now we have two trains of thought on it, both from reputable people.
Teflon is one of the slickest items in the world. There purpose in our C4 spindle washer is to reduce clicking noise etc, correct.
I will do some light drinking to persue the answer on this, as it will be a to do or not to do during assembly.

It was the only way I could keep it from clicking. Moisture gets in and corrosion occurs on the load surfaces, sticking them together. And I'm not in Hawaii.

Steve, do one side only and report back in 6 months, lol.
