It a stock factory frame, that was stripped, then our body guy installed the custom brackets for the rear end, tubular trans mount, and LS1. And then we had it powder coated. the front control arms were media blasted (in house) and painted.

I've been really busy lately, I am building a '57 Chevy for a customer of ours at the shop I work for. This is a ground up build, I started with the bare frame. All the body work is being done by our body shop and I am doing all the mechanical and electrical systems. You can follow the progress on the shops face book page. Please stop by and check it out and "like" our page.

https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Hara ... -and-Body/147110112076249

BTW it has an LS1 from a '99 vette, a Super T-10 Trans (yes I know 4 speed) and a Multi link rear end with a custom ford 9 inch diff.

LoL he already got a new fuel tank, trans, radiator and more..

Since I live in the midwest, and since I have no heat in my garage, and since I'm a dedicated wuss, my list will definitely be more of a "second quarter 2012" list.

My Vette is in decent shape, so I'm basically looking at small stuff.

1. Hunt down my slightly irritating rough idle.
2. Find out why my transmission shifts so friggin' HARD from 1-2, but nice and smooth from 2-3 and 3-4.
3. Send my original ECM in to be reconditioned.
4. Make new rubber inserts for my targa storage brackets out of rubber gasket material.

#2 maybe a broken accumulator spring?

I really didn't have much of a list, my wife's list was build a 383 for it.. after the LT4 upgrades, I wasn't as motivated to build it.. either way I'm still putting it off for a while..

This is roughly how the 350 looked when I bought the car in '99. The block that was in it cracked and I rebuilt it but I put everything back together the way it was just to get it on the road. In this pic I had pulled the master and booster for a Hydrobooster swap.

Here is how the new 405 looks today minus a few details like plug wires, new meal fuel and vacuum lines.

Looks awesome!, one question why isn't there a vacuum hose connected to the PCV valve on the drivers side?

Did the applicable tests. I first checked the underhood fuse by the battery. All those fuses, in particular the 30A was in place, no issues.

I tested the red wire going to the BCM per the kindly supplied link to the electrical wiring diagram.

That red wire has power going to it. So...that is leading me to the conclusion based on the advice here, that the BCM is fried. Power going in, no power going out to the fan from what I can tell.

Does that seem right?

ONE more thing. I broke the lock clips off the plug. Is it possible to buy a new plug, take the wire out and transfer over to the new plug?

If the plug is still available you probably could swap them over..

Here is some more info on how this works..

"The speed of the Blower Motor is determined by the voltage applied to the motor. At low blower speeds the applied voltage is about 4 volts. As the voltage is increased, the blower speed increases until maximum blower speed is reached at 12 volts.

The speed at which the blower runs is determined by the HVAC Control Head from temperature signal inputs and the operating mode of the Air Conditioning System. The HVAC Control Head accepts input requests from the driver by the front panel push buttons.

When the blower speed is determined either automatically in the "AUTO" Fan mode, or manually by the driver, the Control Head sends this information along the two Data Lines to the HVAC Programmer to be processed. When processed the HVAC Programmer delivers a variable voltage to the Blower Power Module.

The blower speed output from the HVAC Programmer is at terminal "C2" and is a continuously variable voltage, proportional to blower speed. At minimum blower speed the output is about 2.5 volts and at maximum blower speed it is about 7 volts.

The output speed signal from terminal "C2" is an input to the Blower Control Module at terminal "B" of connector C2. An amplifier and driver circuit in the Blower Control Module supplies voltage between 4 and 12 volts to the Blower Motor according to the input signal at terminal "B".

The voltage at the Blower Motor is fed back to the HVAC Programmer at terminal "C3". This signal is used for better blower speed stability as well as indicating a failure in the Blower Motor circuitry.
"

The blower motor control module also needs a signal on the Tan (Terminal B on the module) so I would check that as well.. but it is very likely the BMCM is shot, but testing is the only way to know before you throw a new part in..

Oh not again. That is what Andy initially pointed to as well. As a matter of fact, I recall him betting it was. ;)

So, I'll do that test you recommend, red wire, purple wire. I did check both connections going into the fan, one wire was black, other I thought was brown, but could be purple. Neither one had power in any case.

I'll check the fuse under hood as well tonight. I'm wondering if its all related or something else is causing that module to fry. As said, replaced once already. Now the fan was dead as well.

The if a blower motor is starting to fail, it can cause an excessive current draw which can take out a blower module and not blow the fuse, the replacement may work for a while and fail early due to the higher current draw or the motor may finally quit before then...

let us know what you find..

BTW the manual A/C cars had a blower resistor, the automatic climate has a blower motor control module which typically looks like it could be a resistor but it's acutally solid state and mount similarly.

Is the manual or automatic climate control..

There are alot of things you can check with either system.. by following the wiring diagram..

I would make sure the fuse #4 (30amp in the underhood fuse block #1) is not blown, I know you already checked fuses but I would def. make sure of this particular one..

Typically when you burn up a blower motor, the current draw is really high, which tends to pop the fuse...

Even if you have the automatic climate control setup there are steps that can be performed to help diagnose the system.. though a Tech II may make some things a little easier.. there are many things you can do with a simple volt meter.. and a scope as well (checking for wave forms to see if a module is producing a signal, which is sometimes hard to see with a volt meter as they typically show avergage voltage).

So let me know which setup you have and maybe I can help provide some diagnostic steps..

Also - school me on the different types... Dexron II , Dexron III Mercon... What the hell does all that stuff mean?

I've always liked AMSOIL's universal ATF, it's worked out really well for me, I've seen lower trans temps with it..

Now I also had used the Valvoline Maxlife as well..
Number one thing, is use a quality product you like, and change it regularly.. no fluid will cure lack of maintenance..

I would flush the system, and replace it with an A/C delco pump... not a fan of the autozone parts, and edelbrock is probably over priced..

Of course that is after checking for leaks at any connections and assuming it is the pump it's self leaking...

Update... I have been ignoring this problem whilst working on the Vette.

Figured it out... The lower radiator hose has been dripping minor amounts of coolant onto the belt. What I thought was belt treatment was a build up of coolant and goo.

I replaced the belt a couple of days ago, and cleaned the pulleys. I hadn't yet noticed the drip.

Last night, I noticed the drip... Perhaps I made it bigger? I donno, but this morning, the new belt felt like the old belt, and it didn't have any treatment on it. Soooo... it makes me think the coolant leak had been there for a while. This morning, I crawl under and see the tell tail sign of a coolant leak on the lower rad hose to the motor. I give it a couple of turns.

Today, bastet gets home and I had told her to park it in the back, so I am checking and there is this massive leak at the TOP of the radiator! I need a new rad... something has eaten through it.

Off to get a rad tonight... yee-ha... but I have found the problem with the belt.

Took the words out of my keyboard.. was going to suggest a leak since it seems you already tried a few things.. get a few drops of coolant on a belt and they squeek.. sometimes even cleaning with water or solvents doesn't help it go away.. cleaning and replacing the belt after fixing the leak of course sometimes is what's needed..

glad you found it.. noises can drive ya nuts!

Nice, I used to have an RC10L, I have a bolink on road car still that I have a few different bodies for, a '70 Nova SS I just painted for it. I also have a few off road cars, Losi XXX-4 with a brushless setup, a RC10GT with a ton of mods with a '57 Chevy truck body (I bought the body when I used to have a real one), and a XX-T cr.

Slot cars, I had a long time ago, then got back into them recently for very short time, when I was trying to help motivate my nephew, who then moved out of state with his Father, so I sold all those.. Probably going to sell some of the R/C Collection soon, not all but some.. still like to mess with them from time to time.. but I need some more closet space...

Nice, something I've been thinking about, one of the rolling tool cart setups.. so I can put some tool in it, and store some of my tools in cases on the bottom shelf and use it for parts as I'm working as well.. but thats down the road not much room left in my garage..

Awesome deal on the compressor Matt! defitely nice for using air tools around the house ect..

My last tool purchase, was a New snap-on air hammer... but the one before that was a nice deal..

I bought a 2-ton engine hoist from Habor Freight, It was on sale for 199.99, and I had a "super coupon" for 25% off on New years day.. so I picked it up for about $160 and change with tax.. not a bad deal.. but the best part is.. I really didn't want an orange one like the color of the press.. and they did not have a display out for this one, so when I got it home I found they changed the color to silver/gray, red, and black looks nice.. so far happy with it can't wait to use it.. I'm sure it will be used to load/unload stuff from my truck as well as engines...

BTW a couple of weeks ago I returned a broken 3/8" drive 9/16" socket I used in an impact wrench. HB replaced the whole set not just the one socket. Try that with SnapOn or Craftsman.

Completely agree, the HF stuff seems to be getting better, I noticed a set of trim tools I bought there has changed and the tips of them look much better then the set I bought a year or two ago. I also picked up an engine hoist there on sale, the last time I saw their display it was orange, not a big fan of the color but for the price with the 25% off coupon I had was worth it, when I went to pick it up they did not have a display out for it, so when I got it home, I found they put the Pittsburgh name on it and changed the color to a silver/gray, I was even more happy with it...

That double drive looks like a cool idea though!

Possible torque converter circuit failure. Disconnect the connector on the drivers side of the trans, toward the rear of the trans. If it solves the stall issue, you can start troubleshooting the lock up circuit.

Wouldn't a stuck lockup cause it to stall in reverse as well? or does something in the valve body not allow fluid flow through the solenoid while the manual selector is in reverse?

That was my first though the lock up as well, just curious about the reverse thing, never had this issue myself, other then having a few GM's that would stall after the converter had been turned on for the first time and coming to a stop.

Good Morning CGs!

A little chilly today, not as bad as yesterday. They claimed some snow/rain mix, but I guess it will pass South of us. I don't mind one bit.

My newer workout routine has been suiting me well. I've added some extra rest days in there and I've been feeling better. I'm happy about that. I really need to start running again but it's hard to get motivated in the cold weather. I need to get my butt in gear.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

I hear ya about being out in the cold, I've been wanting to go for a long walk, but it's hard when I get home, it's dark out and cold.. I have been working with the weights more lately....

Anyway, just trying to survive the week and get everyones pre-christmas trip auto repairs done... TIP Don't wait till last minute to have your car worked on. and if you do plan on it not being ready... It puts more un-needed stress on your technician. We didn't build it, buy it, or break it, we are just trying to fix it...

Thats a good topic, I don't know why you deleted it....

What started it for vettes with me... I was about 13 and driving up to Wisconsin with my Dad to visit relatives. There was this classic car dealer that has a '70 chevelle red with black stripes, (I remember the price on them 13K) next to a '69 corvette love the chrome bumpers very cool... at that time C4's were new, they also had one there without a price on it. So that kind of started it for me. My neighbor had a black C4 I think a 90 as well, always liked seeing that car.

Fast forward about 7 years later(when I was 20), I was working as a technician, we had a '96 torch red c4 come in. I was pulling it into the shop and said to my boss, I'm going to get one of these... he laughed about it... less then a year later I bought one, my first vette (still have it) the '95 admiral blue.

Personally, with that type of blog, less ads = more cred. I would simply have a menu of links somewhere to sites you either use or buy from... hm, guess that means the guru, too, but wasn't really thinking that until I started writing that sentence! I was more thinking of sites you buy from already or have personally vetted as being good vendors - say rock auto or summit racing.

Added Guru to the list... and some more posts on the blog as well...

I agree I just want a few ads on it that maybe I can creat some income with even if it's just a few bucks. It would help with my time spent on it.

I will look at commission junction. And I will make a short list of reccomended links as well. I agree I do not want too many ads ect.

Oh, yea, man! That's rock'n it!

You are getting the idea and fast! I knew you had it in you. The rest is just practice.

The best bet is to get a copy of the AP Style Guide. It's not a bad thing to have to reference for any kind of technical or journalistic writing. Not so much the rules of content, but the rules of grammar and such.

This last one is heads and shoulders above the others! And in the business of blogging, being neat is half the battle. You could have the best insights, but people will ignore them if they can't read them. It's about credibility. We mock those sites where people talk in slang and stuff, there is a reason - credibility.

Keep it up. It will get there!!! So much better! Aces better!

One minor detail - tabs are not in anymore. Just block paragraphs... damned AP Style Guide...

Thanks again! I know it will take a bit to really form it all together espescially with my poor gramar and spelling.

Where do I find the AP (Which I assume is associated press?) style guide?

And any ideas for pay per click advertising incase adsense falls through?

I wrote another one this evening, let me know what you think, I did in in word, and copied it over. I also broke it up a little bit to make it a little easier to read...
