So I bought a red on red 1980 L82 car The horn button is not right, it fell off after the horn starts honking while turning. Anybody have a diagram of how this thing is supposed to go back together so the horn works correctly ? The previous owner put a new steering wheel on it and there lies the problem, hack...

After reading the Corvette hack story I cancelled my subscription. Don't bother sending me special offers begging for a renewal as that is not going to happen.
Cutting apart a car with a sawzall is NOT Hot Rodding. Pulling the EFI off in favor of a carb because you guys have the skill level of a mildly retarded gorilla is also disgusting. Reducing the vehicles weight and documenting the performance improvements is not a bad idea. Your execution of that idea which included a sawzall is not worth reading. There's plenty of amature nonsense on the internet I can read for free. You also managed to waste an entire page of the magazine writing about how strong the reaction was to this nonsense.

This was my letter to them.

93 Corvette, LT1 Automatic. Interior lights would not turn off so after a little tinkering, pushing on door switches, disconecting the battery I ended up pulling the fuses. There's a 5amp fuse and a 20amp fuse a left and a right side I THINK. Anyways they are now off I would GUESS it's the drivers side door switch but before I start buying parts how do I test my theory ? I was thinking I could put the fuses back in pull the switch and cross the wires for the switch. Your thoughts are ?? Thanks in Advance... John

I've been thinking about buying a bike for a long time and finally bought one. I figured I would get something cheap to start off with and make sure I like it. Anyways here it is 84 1000cc sportster, drag bars, big gas tank and bob rear fender.

As far as step-by-step posts, I have personally made one with pictures for replacing a brake booster (in the tech library) as well as my entire rear end swap process. Once I do my engine removal and replacement, that will be documented, as well. Several other members have posted their trials and tribulations for various other builds, including PeteK's incredible transmission rebuild threads. The information is there and available, so I honestly don't know what you mean.

Matthew

When you click on the tech library nothing happens, I never tried it before though so maybe it's not working today ? When you open this site it's the trivia thing then a list of threads, everything from best sandwhiches, Hot Chick Friday and Cat Pooping On Rug. Doesn't look like a technical site.

A sticky with E.T.s broken down by model year and mods would be a good thing too. This is something Central had on the other site much like your buyers guide which is still there

I am not sure how to help here. We answer what is posted. Short of starting posts in advance of a question, I am not sure what we can do to improve this aspect.

Discuss.

There doesn't appear to be a need here for alot of babysitting so that's where the mods come in I would think. There are guys here who could easily write up a L98 to LTX swap thread with pics. Starting threads to get things going isn't a bad idea and the mods could help move the conversation along and start threads to spur activity too. There's so much knowledge here, you wouldn't know it just looking around though. A comprehensive buyers guide, a troubleshooting guide/sticky and everyones favorite MODS !
What mods work and which ones do not. This info is all out there and documented just not in one place. love the site, not trying to talk shit really trying to help. John

When I got emails from non-complainers thanking me, I was shocked. They had stopped coming because of the avatars!

So far, hot chick friday has stayed within the rules! I think that's great!

I thought the avatars were classless, much like Hot Chick Friday. You can't be everything to everyone, this should be the technical Corvette site it was intended to be, not a collection of raunchy avatars and nonsense.

Well certainly doesn't sound like the tune, sounds like another incompetent so called mechanic using his diagnostic dice to diagnose a driveability issue. Sorry about your luck Dale, If you continue to have issues I'll come look at it, I can datalog the bad boy and all it will cost you is some diet Mt. Dew while I work. I will agree though everyone makes everything seem much easier than it really is, that is one of the problems with the FREE information we all share. I could tell you a motor swap is a p.i.t.a b.i.t.c.h. rotten experience. To a guy like Joe or Pete WTF big deal I ain't them though ya know what I mean ? I think an opti is no big deal. To those with limited tools and knowledge it would be a shit sandwhich.

Interesting piece, and I agree with most of it except.
CHURCHES ARE BUSINESSES AND SHOULD BE TAXED ACCORDINGLY.
I should open a church, what a scam sell nothing, provide no real goods or service, collect money like wild and get tax breaks too.

Thanks ! You would think SLP would include the damned plug, now I gotta go look for the stupid thing. Magnaflow does the same thing with their catback, it has an extra bung for an o2 sensor my car doesn't have so it was off to the parts store. This is par for the course though. Thanks again really appreciate your response.

I've seen the hose on later cars, but my airbox has no such thing on it ??

So I buy an SLP claw and paint it a couple of days ago. It's all ready to go except it wants me to run the air pump supply hose to it. My airbox does not have an airpump hose running to it or did I disconnect it a looong time ago and never notice ? It came with a short length of hose and snap clamps blah blah. I'll go back out and have a good look see hopefull in the meantime somebody who knows will chime in. I would guess it's on the later cars and I can just plug the thing but now I gotta find a plug of some sorts if I'm correct in my thinking.

I am not a "street racer" however from time to time i do engage in some spirited driving like most people with a Corvette I would think. I've never had a scare or an OH SHIT moment until the other day. I left a redlight next to a bike so I creeped off and he did too. I jumped on it from a roll, a little friendly display of power. My 1-2 shift on a cold night on asphalt under w.o.t. slid me right through his lane. If dude when have been alongside me I would have ruined everyones day at a minimum. The point is BE CAREFUL, I've got at least a hundred passes in this car, I've had fast cars but sometimes shit happens. I should have known better but a momentary lapse of judgement could have turned out awful.

I agree the ZR1 has what it takes to become collectible as does the Callaway and Buick Grand National but time will tell. Who would have ever guessed a VW Bug would be worth so much?

Maybe it will be cars like the original '83/'84 Rabbit GTI's that will bring big $$$ if all original in the future? A historically significant car in it's own right as they terrorized autocross courses in the 80's/90's but I don't think anyone put them in moth balls. Same with the Dodge Omni GLH Turbo's remember those?

The GLHS Shelby would be the one to grab. The 93 Cobra R Mustangs bring good money. Very interesting thread, the 1989 turbo Trans Ams should go up.The SRT10 Ram pickups might be a good one down the road too. Interesting thread for sure.

Without the skunk stripe it's kinda like ready, fire, aim. Why wouldn't they at least offer it in Admiral blue with the stripes with red guts ? One of the best looking Corvettes ever jmho and I know it sounds nasty but it works on the C4 at least. I would have striped them all offered in Red White, Black, Admiral blue etc. oh well I ain't in charge LOL

Oh, and Oreilly brand engine degreaser will make plastic and rubber hoses shine like new for weeks. Simply soak a rag in it and run it over the hoses you want to shine up. It won't harm the rubber that I know of.

Cool, yeah white tubing would be sweet. I painted the intake, dumped alot of money in chrome plating a set of polished valve covers and did the fuel rail covers white after smoothing them. The top of the engine looks like a million bucks now that big rubber ducky ductwork looks like crap to me. I've got issues LOL

when I was planning to top my 405 with an LT1 manifold I had this made up. It fits the mouth of the TB perfectly, and I was going to use silicon and some set screws to hold it in place. The round opening was large enough to run after market polished tubing and a MAF. I paid over $100 to have it made but I don't have a use for it. If you think you can use it I'll sell it to you cheaper.

I do not like the looks of the rubber intake THING that runs from the air filter housing to the throttlebody on my Corvette. I've seen the polished stainless covers however is there anything else ? Something that looks better ? Another question is what can you do to make the heater hoses shine without deteriorating them ?

This is my third C4 Corvette, if I get rid of this one it will be time for something completely different.IF I dump this one I'll build a traditional Hot Rod.

The LSX may not be a Chevy engine rather a GM engine however it certainly isn't a Pontiac engine and neither is the LPE Camaro/Trans Am they are building . I just don't see why you would put a Pontiac powerplant in your Trans Am looking Camaro ???? By the time they are done, might as well be made out of unobtanium. WTF why Chevy couldn't have built a retro looking T/A and called it the Chevrolet Trans Am or just the Trans Am don't need an entire dealer network of Pontiac Delaers to make a Trans Am out of the Camaro ??
STUPID GM....

It's looks cool and from LPE ya know it's gonna haul ass. The only thing is how much will it cost esp ditching the LSX in favor of a Pontiac motor ?? That's just weird, Trans Ams ran Chevy power for the last 20+years at least so I don't get that part but the folks at LPE know alot more about cars than I do. A fiberglass/urethane body kit and a blower would have accomplished the same thing I THINK, and kept the price down.

I started early, I swapped out the valve covers for a set of chrome ones, pulled the intake and painted it red finally. I've been wanting to do that for a long time now. I just painted the fuel rail covers white and painted the alternator and assorted brackets appropriate colors. I just put the front bumper cover back on after having it painted and installed a new airdam too.I want to chrome a few things under the hood as well. This winter I'll change those rotten Chinese center caps on my GS copies. They have some bastard Corvette logo on them. I did the carpet in the spring and redid the stereo but didn't change the carpet on the door panels as it was getting warm and I was sick of spraying glue in my garage. I gotta do the door panel carpets and the passenger side door panel has cracked webbing as it likes to pop off the track so that needs fixed. I have gotta get rid of the stupid Magnaflow resonator, maybe some electronic cut outs.

I don't think you can screw up a hole that's 3/8-20 by running a 3/8-20 tap through it. How could ya ? A tap is for cutting new threads agreed however if it's the same size as the hole it will just clean the gunk out. Sounds like you need a Heli-Coil set now which will fix you right up. I spun a bolt in my Dana 36 and a $10.00 Heli-Coil set later and all is well. GREAT STUFF !!

If the threads are screwed up, there's a good chance one of the edges on the tap flute can catch the "bent" thread and try to start a rethread that's a bit off, the tap digs into the points of the existing thread and cuts them out leaving threads thar are dimensionally smaller that they should be or cuts the old threads totally out. I've done it and had to go to a Heli-Coil.

For cleaning out a hole where the threads are fine, you're right, the tap won't do anything but clean the threads.

I agree that Heli-Coils are great, I have a bunch in the shop.
Also, I did a thread months ago on thread inserts that are way better than Helis but they are also expensive.

That makes sense, learn something new everyday. I've always just used a tap and have never had any problems. I can now see how you could have one though. Thanks for the info, now I have an excuse to buy more tools.
