The CWP thread got me thinking about the mindset of law enforcement officials in general. The old Us against Them superiority complex that many of them share. Of course there is a hierarchy in the Us catergories too. Unarmed security guard is a them, rent a cop is a them, small town cops think they're an US but big town cops think they're a them. Feds think the cops are a them because you have to be a Fed to be an Us and then there are the steps of Fed. ICE, ATF, FBI, Secret Service, CIA. Military cops don't count as Feds. They fall between a rent a cop and small town deputy. If you are not in law enforcement you are definitely a them. If you are married to an Us you are a them with privileges. Is anybody still with me on this. LOL. More than likely your just another one of THEM.

Oh man... a real kettle of fish...

As I mentioned in the CWP thread, I worked for the Delaware State Police for 2.5 years. Prior to that, I was with the DE Atty Generals office for nearly 3 and spent 2.5 years with an agency called DELJIS who maintained the states CJIS.

At DELJIS, I was helpdesk... so guess what... I knew every frick'n cop in the state... If they had a problem with the warrant system, I fixed it. If the court clerk had an issue with the acct system, I fixed it.

In short, I was their hero. It is team work. And the team takes care of its own.

From 1996 to 2004, I was pulled over any number of times, mostly due to window tint (had waiver)... but when I was pulled over for a more or less real offense, I was verbally warned and let go. Once, I was leaving my small town on this rather dark 2 lane road, in a HEAVY rain.

The speed limit goes from 25 to 35 to 50, and somewhere between the 35 and 50, I started to pick up speed... mostly, because I had lost where the 50 sign was, thought I had passed it already. Next thing I know, it was the local townie pulling me over... I pull over, get my stuff out, lower the window, and the kid says, "Oh, Andy, I didn't recognise you in your new car, no biggie, take care!"

I would eat lunch with these guys on a Saturday afternoon...

The bigger town of Dover had a lot of officers, 70 or so. And I knew, personally and well, at least 20. I would run into a couple of them at the local mall... they had mall duty on Friday and Saturday nights. Mostly around the food court/theater/arcade area. It is interesting how ppl look at you when you walk up to the cops, give the man hug thing and engage in conversation... ppl watch when that happens and I will guarentee the folks figure everyone there is a cop and best be on their best behaviour!

I would drive through Dover, see one of my friends doing paperwork in the 7-11 parking lot... pull in and do one of those cop chat things with driverside to driverside... makes ppl not want to mess with your Vette.

If there was a facet of living in Dover for me, that was one of them... it was a near automatic get out of jail card...

You're right Steve. It is prevelent everywhere. It's mostly associated with ego. Ego maniacs are fun to watch. It is especially fun to watch an ego bubble burst. We are all equal in the eyes of the Lord. That doesn't have anything to do with the eyes of people. Guess we'll find out how equal we are when we're all dead.

I'm not equal. I'm way better than those dead guys. And any of them that disagree feel free to speak up and dissent...

I have no ego problems! Its my Id and Super Ego that are in conflict! Trying to be a nice guy is not working! being a prick gets results but short term! Being aggressive is OK but not in Church! passive is great when I'm asleep until I think of my truck hood.

I have yet to find someone who understands or agrees with me on most things, so there is no us. Only them. You are one of them.

Another complication is that nobody seems to do what I want them to do. Whatever I plan out for them they do something completely different. What is wrong with people?
