I think the regulars here know what I am involved in, but what does everyone else have planned for the cold off season. Any good projects?

My vette plans are to:

1)Build, and install the 406 on the engine stand to replace my hurt 383.
2)Install and test the 700r4 trans I built with custom 1st and 2nd gear ratios.
3) Determine which of the 2 torque converters work best with the new combo
4) Determine which rear gear likes the new combo. I have 3:07, 3:33 and 3:45 on the shelf.

If I really get ambitious I can swap from the Super ram to the miniram, and then the converted single plane, to find out which one works best.

However, I am committed to building my daughters JR dragster to be ready for opening day 2010, so that will put a cap on what I plan for the vette.

In my spare time, I want to assemble the 2 or 3 383 stroker motors I have laying around to clean up the shop, and put them up for sale.

Dismantle current 350 and remove 350/TH350.
Finish and detail engine compartment and undercarriage.
Replace drive shaft and half shaft U-joints.
Install rear end drain plug and fill with new fluid.
Have TH2004R rebuilt to handle said 405.
Install said 405 and TH2004R.

Pull and reinstall the motor in the 89 after the rebuild.
Change the front bushings while the motor is out.
Port intake before installing on rebuilt motor.

I'm sure there are more....

I won't be able to start until late March or so, but I've started to make my list. I'm sure the list will change as the months roll by. Not nearly as ambitious as engine-building, though ;-)

Install new sound system
Buy a Corsa cat-back
I have a slight vibration - may need new U-joints, or else flywheel balance may need to be checked
Hunt down random "Service ABS/ASR" problem
Maybe install poly bushings
Get DeWitts radiator pressure tested, and reinstall
Get canvas top fitted to cover targa brace
Figure out something for new plug wire looms
Fix nice gouge that appeared in hood recently
New tires, maybe

for me?

Banski kit, which means rebuild the rear suspension, really.
Clean up the audio system
If the $$ is there, repaint.

However, the biggest project will be getting bastet44's 87 coupe back on the road.

I am looking at next year for my 383.

Winter plans,
Starting tomorrow, I'm going to call a outfit in springfield to have them look at my 400 auto trans. A month ago I took my vert into a local shop in nixa to get a tune up & a general going thur before I went to Eureaka Springs. Now sence I took it to the shop it now wines when I start it up. The guy that worked on it told me it was wineing when I brought it in and it's the transmission pump seal and will have to pull it to repair.
All I can say now is where did I lay my 357 at.
Anyway I'll start a thread over in tech to see what you guys think before I take it to a known expert for repair.

Still working on my coupe. Having to back up and change a few things then continue. Currently finishing up the coolant system. You know, radiator, hoses and the dreaded heater core.
GG.

Bill. I fixed another one of your posts for you...

Sadly, i don't have any projects, either. I wasted my summer getting my car perfect so it can sit in the garage for 5 months teasing me.

Look for a lot of posts in the racing forum next spring, because there is going to be some racing instead of fixing for the Spectator Racing team.

There may be a C6 race car project instead, but its currently a 10% chance. If it comes through there will be a kick-ass celebration, though. And you guys will be the first to know!!

Jon, you do realize that the only thing on a racetrack that should be green is the starter's flag, do't you?

I'll think about you during those 5 months while I'm driving on the racetrack.

Well, she will or she won't, it's a coin toss. But, if you get to spend at least a season (or 2) with her, it's worth the effort. And the cost, the Jrs aren't cheap.

I've seen a lot of kids, 6 years old & up, at the kart track. You can tell which ones are hooked.
If she can remain exctied during the long tows to the track, you may be good.

Post some pics of the car when it's built.

Looks like I've got more research to do - thanks!

This morning I was noticing how much better the HID lights on my Maxima are than the Vette's headlights - I may add a HID conversion to my spring to-do list.

My car projects are:

1) D-44 conversion with 3.45 gears, up from a D-36 with 3.07's, and all new bushings and such while in there.

2) Add another nitrous bottle heater since 1 isn't enough for a 15lb bottle.

3) New seat covers, sunvisors, and a new padded armrest pad.

4) Do some detail things, like repaint wiper arms and windshield trim, strip down and polish wheels and repaint wheel cutouts.

5) J55 front brake upgrade.

6) If any funding left before spring, install a water/meth kit that only sprays when the nitrous is spraying.

I started early, I swapped out the valve covers for a set of chrome ones, pulled the intake and painted it red finally. I've been wanting to do that for a long time now. I just painted the fuel rail covers white and painted the alternator and assorted brackets appropriate colors. I just put the front bumper cover back on after having it painted and installed a new airdam too.I want to chrome a few things under the hood as well. This winter I'll change those rotten Chinese center caps on my GS copies. They have some bastard Corvette logo on them. I did the carpet in the spring and redid the stereo but didn't change the carpet on the door panels as it was getting warm and I was sick of spraying glue in my garage. I gotta do the door panel carpets and the passenger side door panel has cracked webbing as it likes to pop off the track so that needs fixed. I have gotta get rid of the stupid Magnaflow resonator, maybe some electronic cut outs.

I replaced both front hubs last week and did the last oil change for this year today. My next 'winter project' is to take it back to the dragstrip, hopefully this Sunday. I can't think of anything else it needs and I don't have any mods planned (yet).
