IMHO, I suggest that regardless of what cam you get, take the time to have an expert check it out before you install it. Seen lots of issues in this dept .

I'm sorry bout bad pic's... adding pic's is all new to me ;(

This 383 only had one trip out racing (NOT my work), any how customer brought her in to me, upon teardown , it was obvious that the mains had been line honed....Problem here is that the caps were looser than a goose in the block registers, they were walk'in front to back, side to side...Felt bad 4 the guy. It's toast!!!!!!!!

Classic example of poor machine work..
This thing snapped the crank in half, cam in 3 pieces.

About 5 years ago I had my 78 Suburban (a tank!) up on 4 jack stands & the floor jack still under the cross member for extra safety. All I was doing was rotating tires, as soon as I removed the pass side rear tire, the whole damn truck fell to the ground scared the crud outa me, a near miss for sure... Havent been under a car since! My fault I didnt take into account that my drive way has a slight decline......

Thank's Guys for your feed back...this IMHO could make a good topic.

Anyhow, I dont get into reconfiguring head port design, but wat I like to do is the following in house:

I'll have my customer bring their heads in with int.//Ex. manifolds too bolt everything up use dykem to mark everything out, and go from there., and I usually will suggest to jus port match everything, reshape the guide area, bowl blend, dust chambers, get into the intake ports about 2 inches smooth everything out , then bout 1.5 inches on the exhaust ... I call that Stage II. Any input or improvements u rec? Jus talkin bout chevy heads as an example here ;)

I'd v-grind it just a little with a dremel and JB Weld it.
As long as it's not right beside the exhaust manifold, it should hold fine.

I JB'd a pin hole in the radiator on the racecar and it's still there after 5 years (and still not leaking).

Regular jb weld? okay I'll try that , and if that dont work I 'll put a chevy man. on it ty all for ur help .

Wait, is this one of those CV or Mercury Cougar 4.6 intake manifolds from the mid to late 90's? There was a large lawsuit which covered certain years which was then opened up again to cover later models to 97 if I recall.

If that's it, go to the junkyard and grab one of the replacements that Ford installed as a result of the class action suit. You'll know as it will have the Ford part numbers, not Dorman (skip those). That replacement will have a aluminum cross over at the thermostat housing as well. You'll recognize it that way.

Too late to get a replacement as a result of the class action. I did the replacement after messing with the glue because nothing worked. The job is not bad at all.

Replace the rubber hose in the galley below the intake when you get there.

thank's and this is a 96 mustang... gREAT place for a by pass hose too huh , GEEZ!

3m Structural Adhesive is an epoxy, it's what Summit and Autoparts stores usually carry. I like it but it looks like the temp rating is 400.

3M Scotch Weld can go higher but it's usually in a double tube that takes a gun. And there's a lot of different part numbers.

JB is rated to 500. I use a ton of JB.

Where exactly is the crack,David?

Hope this helps :
Just some very basic clearances that I would check IMHO
1) Mains .002 5/10 - .003 2/10
2) rods .001 8/10 - .002 4/10
3) rod side clear. .012 -.017
4)piston to wall Follow manufacturer specs.
5) ring end gaps .018- .021 (TOP & BOTT)
6) crank thrust .004-.006
7) piston to deck .005-.017 below deck

Just safe numbers in my opinion...application may vary.
Also I would pull all the oil plugs outa the block re-clean , then lock them back in place with lock tite.

Odd... considering how wind tunnel tests showed they lifted! I wonder if your suspension mods reaimed it just enough to give it down force?

All that matters is that your ok!!!

I'm jus say'in my 69' and 72' both responded the same way, now with the 66 I cant go fast with my 456 gears,n cant put tires under it ...Totally diff. car.
Another thing bout that accident, We both itched for weeks from fiberglass shavings.

Oh, ya want the story, okay :

This was bout 30 yrs ago, My buddy and I were out late night in winter time in the roadster. We were almost home when I decided to do a quartermile pass near my home, had her wound out in 2nd gear pretty tight(turbo 400) I was in the fast lane, all of a sudden a blue 280z crossed into my lane, I hit the brakes and apparently the right front caliper locked up and jerked the wheel right outa my hands..I recall we did a number of 360"s, car was completely outa control, we hit curbs, fences, tree's, this seemed to last forever.....When it ended I found my self thrown out of the car bout 75 feet behind the car on the street and my friend was still in car.. We both emerged unharmed, when cops arrived they measured over 200 feet of skid marks and fiberglass was scattered everywhere !Cops said it was a miracle we were alive, as there was nothing left of the vette at all..The police said the fiberglass absorbed all the impact and that saved us... As for my friend, he had an 80 vette, after this he sold it never to drive his car again. I found a new respect for Corvettes and speed.. Forgot to add I did pee all over my self too, just a few scratches and torn clothe............
