Classic example of poor machine work..
This thing snapped the crank in half, cam in 3 pieces.

Blurry picture is blurry.

I see a 4 bolt main. What am I supposed to be looking at? Was it not torqued down and you found the main bolts that loose?

Is that a spun main bearing? Friction increased until crank seized suddenly, causing the massive breakage and failure?

PS - Guys, let's all get a few bucks together and send Engineholic a digital camera for his shop so he'll stop posting up blurry camera phone pics. LOL.

I'm sorry bout bad pic's... adding pic's is all new to me ;(

This 383 only had one trip out racing (NOT my work), any how customer brought her in to me, upon teardown , it was obvious that the mains had been line honed....Problem here is that the caps were looser than a goose in the block registers, they were walk'in front to back, side to side...Felt bad 4 the guy. It's toast!!!!!!!!

Remember, it costs a lot more to build it right the second time than to build it right the first time!

Yes Andy ! And you saw how bad those main caps fit that block.... Such a crucial area to the oiling system.

The registers were horrid. So damned sloppy it's disgusting.

Well, assembly line reman engines! The factory engines look like precision instruments compared to that mess...

what we don't know is what that person paid for that engine. I agree, under normal conditions, you would think cut rate, but the parts were pretty good stuff, just put together like crap.

so... who knows...

Another error here is that he used a stock cast crank....If he woulda ran a nice steel crank the crank would have stayed intact, and possibly this assembly may have been salvagable.. The block wasnt envn clearanced enough for the extra stroke!
