Would anyone recommend a top engine cleaning??? I have a 1991 vert with 83,0000 miles top end is good but low end a bit sluggish. Only owned it the last 3 years. Replaced EGR and still getting occasional 42 fault!!

Didn't check filter because Jiffy back flushed without touching anything. Since initial drive---car is running better and less popcorn noise at lower RPMs. There is no doubt that there was residual metal from previous problem in the fluid. Hopefully there is less now.

Well, had the full flush done at jiffy---smells better--fluid that is. Initially, more popcorn sounds than before will continue to evaluate and see if anything improves---any chance of the rattle noise being an exhaust tube from the air pump or something like that???

!1991 vert auto 81k ---dog on performance---but when I try to get it to acceleratre and auto down shift it sounds like an out of control pop corn machine from down below. This tranny did eat a race a while back and it was replaced but not flushed out again since.

JR says it could be the thin washers next to the yoke---a little too late for me but I'll try some spray lube to see if it might a difference

All right guys---Time to come up with a solution to the greatest mystery of all. "TICKING SOUND LEFT SIDE OF 1991 Corvette convertible Auto 81K..

It was not the front bearing....
It was not the rear bearing.....
It was not the right half rear U-Joints...
It was not the rear spindle-----

What else could it BE!!!!!

replacing rear bearing on 91 auto convert 82K miles---foreward bolt completely seized. Would anyone recommend replacing the u-joints on that side axle at this time. Ticking sound main concern and most problematic.

Of all the tests the most noticeable is the better braking when in neutral gear. Big difference!!!! Also---during quick acceleration attempt the engine seems to knock- pre-ignition for the entire time--prem gas used. Any chance of Map, TPS, knock sensor problem????

Case, I'll try those tests you recommend--but when cold there is an almost violent clunk/jolt when shifting from reverse to forward---braking is always a challenge but more worrysome at slow speeds. Tor/convert definitely was not changed and overall effort by mechanic to correct all was minimal. Thanks guys I think we are getting to the source of the problem.!!!!!

Sorry Guys for not getting back sooner---I'm on a trip all over the carib. I have the automatic, not sure of the gearing----original exhaust manifolds back to the flow masters, mini cats still there large replaced. Tranny was worked on for having a spun bushing that blocked all lines with metal shavings. Has K&N air filter. new plugs, cap rotor year old. new EGR valve played with TPS and improved for a while. Thanks for the great response.

Everyone says the L-98 is a torque monster---We'll mine is anything but. It's responsive and peppy between 70-90 MPH but it takes a while to get there. It's low end torque is missing. Any ideas what would directly impact that? TPS? injectors? tranny???

I have a 91 ragtop with 80K miles. At highway speeds and when near a center divider I hear a constant ticking sound coming from the left side of the car. Not noticeable at slow speeds. Any way to verify that the bearing is bad??????

LTPWS light remains on after start--goes out after 100 yards and then comes back after a few miles. First started after all tires changed. Any ideas.

Tom, I installed mine about 2 weeks ago all went smooth except one of the limiters on the mechanism I installed backwords because everything on the other side is mirror and not the same. All works great just as you predicted. I guess these bushings are designed to take all the beating/sacrifice itself so the gears remain intact. Now for the EGR swap out and the new chip. Vette season is almost here!!!!

I get a service engine light come on almost exactly at the same point along a certain route, on a highway just starting up a grade---it checks out as a code 32---i do not notice any change in performance and if I stop and shutoff the engine and restart the light remains off for the rest of the trip. Does not come on around town. It's a 91 L-98. Any ideas--anybody know the primary cause of a code 32-EGR??

I bought new pins and it had no impact or change I'll take a look at the upper control arm----I had some folks say that it could be the caliper mount brackets wearing out at the upper position requiring replacement of the brackets--GM no longer stocks the item

We checked the wheels---- the biggest problem I see is the calipers are loose and easily rattled by hand when the brakes are not applied

I just replaced the front pads and within days my 91 vert clunks and bangs when I apply the brakes and rattles noticeably at slow speeds. Just ordered new calipers for the front from mid america. Any thoughts????
