No temp guage yet. I think that most people are in agreement that in series and prior to the radiator is the best way to go. Anything will be an improvement. I've not had any issues with it, I just want to prolong the life of the trans and help it tow. I hope I didnt just jinx myself.

FWIW, I just got through installing an electric fan set up on the truck tonight. I did away with the belt driven setup completely. Works like a charm and maybe frees up a bit of HP.

Lets see what our trans guys here think. I'm adding a small external trans cooler to my truck. The truck is a 99 GMC sonoma 4.3L ext cab 2wd with the 4l60. I use the truck to tow the vette a couple times a year and believe it or not it does very very well. I also use an alum featherlite trailer with elec brakes. My question is placement in the loop. I can put it in series with the stock cooler in the radiator before the stock cooler or after, or I can bypass the radiator all-together.
1: Bypass the radiator. This would eliminate the heating effect from the stock cooler but in cold weather would it cause other issues like the trans not getting up to temp quickly enough or at all causeing it to not shift into OD.
2: Post radiator, see above. Would it cause the same problems in very cold weather?
3: Pre radiator. Would this even drop it down enough to be effective? I'd think that it would cool the fluid but the fluid would then pass through the stock radiator cooler and thus reheat it.

Possibly, we could make it. I had an idea for a get together down in Atlanta at the year one experience in May. We could meet up there and oogle the other cars too along with all the racing.

This is my opinion only but I really believe that the name alone will keep other generations away. If one were to get C5guru, C6guru, C3guru etc and combine or redirect them all here then perhaps that might work.
As for Jim W. AKA Savewave, I've met him and his wife and had the chance to have dinner and cruise with them on several occasions. My wife and I enjoyed their company. I consider them to be friends and good people. I may disagree with the direction the CF is heading or other things pertaining to the CF but that doesnt mean I harbour any ill will towards him.

That post is indicative of the overall attitude of the CF towards any vette other than C5/6. I've repeatedly said that at the CF cruise in events the C4s were shunned by many members, laughed at even. The attitude has gotten worse more recently however. I understand the difference between good natured fun and ribbing at others expense but it has turned for the worse. Adam Boca does a wonderful job on the CI and deserves credit. He cannot control the attendees behavior however.
This is a major part of why I choose to attend these events now, if for no other reason than to continue to see old friends, make new ones and do my best to humiliate some of the snobs. I've had some success in that area.

Speaking strictly for me, everyone I know my age (37) doesnt believe SS will be around when we retire. I know I dont and I'm not planning on it. I'm saving, investing and paying my house off. I plan to retire fully by age 60. If anyone depends on the govt to take care of them they will soon find themselves stranded on a roof with the waters rising much like the residents of NO.
Bush had a great plan to help save SS but the AARP (among others) made sure it got no where. There was so much misinformation put out by that org it was staggering. Talk about your fear mongering. That plan represented a threat to their membership by removing potential members that depend on them to look out for their entitlements in the future. It had no effect what-so-ever on those allready on SS.
The way I figure it is we will engineer some serious inflation into the economy once the baby boomers get fully into retirement age and start putting enormous pressure on the generation that is working to pay their benefits. We'll be able to, by default, reduce the amount being paid out in benefits. SS was never intended to be a retirement system for everyone anyways but once you start giving it away you cant stop.
As for healthcare the govt has failed to pass tort reform. Malpractice suits have cripled our healthcare system.

About the only thing anyone is promised is a chance. Some get a head start, some dont...but they get a chance none-the-less. I for one plan on taking care of myself and my family.

Alot of what is said is true but having seen the other side there is hope. This generation has answered the call in our military. There are 18 year old kids doing incredible things every day in Iraq and Asskrackistan.
I for one try to raise my boy a bit 'old fashioned'. I gave him a spanking in the doctors office, in front of the doctor, last week.
He's 2 1/2.
The Doc just smiled and agreed with me :thumbleft:

So how widespread is this and how big of a cheater is BB?

Belichick has been taping since 2000, Goodell tells Specter

By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer
February 13, 2008
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Bill Belichick has been illegally taping opponents' defensive signals since he became the New England Patriots' coach in 2000, according to Sen. Arlen Specter, who said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told him that during a meeting Wednesday.

"There was confirmation that there has been taping since 2000, when Coach Belichick took over," Specter said.

Specter said Goodell gave him that information during the 1-hour, 40-minute meeting, which was requested by Specter so the commissioner could explain his reasons for destroying the Spygate tapes and notes.

"There were a great many questions answered by Commissioner Goodell," Specter, the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, told reporters after the meeting. "I found a lot of questions unanswerable because of the tapes and notes had been destroyed."

Goodell said Belichick told him he believed the taping was legal; Goodell said he did not concur.

"He said that's always been his interpretation since he's been the head coach," the commissioner said. "We are going to agree to disagree on the facts."

Specter, from Pennsylvania, wants to talk to other league officials about what exactly was taped and which games may have been compromised.

"We have a right to have honest football games," he said.

Goodell noted that "we were the ones that disclosed" the Patriots' illegal taping of the New York Jets' defensive signals in Week 1 of last season. Further, Goodell said, they had an admission by Belichick.

"I have nothing to hide," Goodell said.

Goodell also told Specter that that he doesn't regret destroying the Spygate tapes or the notes.

"I think it was the right thing to do," Goodell said.

Still, Specter wants to know why penalties were imposed on Belichick before the full extent of the wrongdoing was known and the tapes destroyed in a two-week span. Asked if he thinks there was a coverup, Specter demurred.

"There was an enormous amount of haste," Specter said.

He scoffed at the reasons Goodell gave for destroying the tapes and notes, particularly about trying to keep them out of competitors' hands and because Belichick had admitted to the taping.

"What's that got to do with it? There's an admission of guilt, you preserve the evidence," Specter said. As for keeping the tapes out of the hands of others: "All you have to do is lock up the tapes."

Belichick was fined $500,000 and the team was fined $250,000 because of the Spygate incident. The Patriots also forfeited a first-round draft pick.

Specter has questioned the quality of the NFL's investigation into the matter and raised the possibility of congressional hearings if he wasn't satisfied with Goodell's answers. Specter also raised the threat of Congress canceling the league's antitrust exemption and reiterated that in the meeting with Goodell.

Goodell also said he has not heard from Matt Walsh, the former Patriots employee who performed some videotaping duties for the team.

Walsh told The Associated Press last week during the Pro Bowl in Hawaii that he couldn't talk about allegations that he taped a walkthrough practice by the St. Louis Rams before the 2002 Super Bowl. New England, a two-touchdown underdog, won that game 20-17.

Goodell said he has offered Walsh a deal whereby "he has to tell the truth and he has to return anything he took improperly" in return for indemnity. Specter said he, too, wanted to talk to Walsh and perhaps offer a different deal.

Goodell also said he reserves the right to reopen the investigation if more information is uncovered.

CSS, The guard/reserves also account for a large portion of the total forces in the aor. At one point they consituted half the force in theater. It only makes sense that half your force accounts for half your suicides.
Guard and reserve troops for the first 2 or 3 years of this war were also treated like crap in the aor by the active components and recieved less training and inferior equipment. Heck, the DOD just recently awarded 4 star level to the director of the national guard. Even at the highest levels we were getting shat on. Most of that was because we hadnt made the difficult transition from a cold war strategic reserve force to an active participant force as now. In many ways its tougher to be guard/reserve than active. We get less benefits/trainging and spend less time on active duty but still get deployed and are expected to keep up with active components. We also have to try and maintain our home life and proffesional civillian careers. Theres alot of factors that play into it.

I know from my perspective if a motorist tells me something like that I'm most likely going to be skeptical and let them decide it in court. I also doubt that I'd be worried too much about tint in the first place though. Most times its a judgement call by the LEO anyways.

CC, is going to a 30yr fixed now out of the question? You KNOW what you're getting with that type of loan and no surprises or worrying about the market swings. If nothing else peace of mind.

You could allways sell it and move out here where its cheap to live.

Redwing, why the hate all of a sudden?
Its just a discussion after all. Your response makes you appear immature and childish.

Back on topic. I dont have alot to add other than my perspective on 30yr fixed mortgages. I got into our house 5 years ago for 139k at 5.5% fixed on a 30yr VA. I try to pay a bit extra here and there, maybe an extra $500-$1000 a year. I plan to pay it off in 22-24 years. I also have a unique perspective on those last 10 years of my mortgage. A $940 a month house payment (includes taxes and ins) 5 years ago was fairly steep for me. Its not so bad now. In ten years my electric bill is likely to be close to that amount. The last 10 years, more so the last 5 will be a small % of my income. Another benefit to a fixed is inflation. If we have steep inflation and wages at least come close to keeping up then I will be able to pay my house off sooner. I like where I live and want to stay here.

Frank, if you sell your house for $400k you can move down here. We have no state income tax, better roads and little snow.

All Zo6s were hardtops. There were three seperate model vettes to be had beginning in 99 with the introduction of the FRC(fixed roof coupe) or hardtop as it was called, the coupe(targa) and of course the verts. The FRC was the precursor to the Z06. Body is exactly the same but the name was changed in 01 with the addition of the LS6 motor. In short FRC IN 99 and Z06 2001-2004.
Looking around the are numerous examples of zo6s going for under 25k. Soon they'll be under 20k. It drives the C5 owners batty. They were all concerned when they started bringing less than 30k. Once the C6 base coupe start going for under 30k on a regular basis you'll start to see Z06s under 20k.

I had a bit of the Jack Daniels 86 proof stuff left still. That did wonders for me. I've got a bottle of Johnny walker red to open now :thumbright:

Its not the flu, thank goodness, just some sort of virus going around. I think I'm on the downside of it.

I wish I could get away with low impact stuff but 1: I really want to run at least a half marathon this year and 2: I still have to run a mile and a half twice a year for our PT test (military) and I like to do it under 12 minutes, 11 if possible.

I'll push through it. If I didnt have something wrong with me I'd be really worried.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

The Ant and the Grasshopper (Classic Version):

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

The Ant and the Grasshopper (Modern Version):

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing "It's Not Easy Being Green". Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing "We Shall Overcome". Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake. Al Gore exclaims in an interview with Peter Jennings that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share". Finally, the EEOC drafts the "Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act", retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government. Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case. The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles to the around him because he doesn't maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.
Moral of the story be careful how you vote!!

Finally got my feet taken care of so I can run again. I havent run in over 2 months due to various foot problems. Even my shin splints healed. I ran 3 miles Monday at a decent pace 9:32 avg. Tues I felt a bit weird in my upper respritory but shrugged it off as nothing. It hit yesterday full blown upper cold/sinus problems. Last night it made its way to my chest. I cant hear, taste, I'm dizzy, sore throat and earaches. I'm all loaded up on drugs now. Is this my body's way of saying no to my staying in shape? Sheesh.

Droptop, I've got the hotcam and a set of Hooker longtube headers on my LT4. Based on everything I've read over the years on LS1TECH.COM, CF, CAMAROZ28.COM, etcetc there is no benefit from doing either the larger maf or throttle body at this level of power. Its only when you get to much larger numbers that it becomes cost effective. My next mod is going to be an electric water pump. Just my $.02

I'm in Andersonville, just north of Knoxville or 8 miles from exit 122 I-75. I work midnights this month and am usually available in the afternoons when on this shift. I also work a 6 days on, 3 days off schedule so I'm off many times during the week.

If you could get down this a way we could take a look at it. I've got a few tools and a couple of FSMs. I just went to the garage and checked, I have the FSM from 89, 90, 91, 93 and of course 96. The 89 would be most applicable to your car. I'd start with checking fuel press. I've got a guage but you can pick one up prety cheap at advance auto. I would put the guage on and tape the dial to the windshield (if you get one with a long enough hose) and drie around for short distances with a couple of WOT blasts and pay close attention to FP.
After that I'd start on ignition checks.

The C5 stuff has a better initial bite due to the larger surface area of the pad in contact with the rotor. Droptop, for most people the stock J55 is good enough but even in autox events I could use more brakes. Another plus for the C5 brakes is cost. Rotors are about half price and pads are cheaper and offer more selection.
One last point, the J55 calipers also have a knack for spreading apart. The GS calipers are a bit stronger than the standard J55s but the C5 is much better.

Oaklands, I'm just down the road from you. I suspect that I'll go again this year to the cruise in if only to see some old friends. Theres several C4 owners in this area but we are still greatly outnumbered by the C5/6 owners.

I'm pretty happy with my setup for now but I wish I had about 40 more rwhp

Mine ran 12.40s at Beech Bend last year at the cruise in, trapped 114. I bet I'm around 350ish rwhp. 1st gear is brutal with the 4.10s. It reminds me of my modded L98 6 speed car that dynoed 368rwtrq.

I had to spend a couple months at a transient unit one time. We would escort low security offenders around base picking up trash.

I noticed today that the agenda is up on the NCM site for the C4 gathering. Anyone ever went to this event? I think it's be a smaller group though. Is there any one place that everyone meets up at or stays? How about attendance, is there alot or a little?

Just got back from the Dr. Things didnt start well. The skin on my feet is tough enough so that the needle broke on the 2nd shot. THAT was fun. Then the clippers wouldnt cut the nail, so out came the heavy duty clippers and a pair of needle nose pliers. As soon as the local wears off I'm sure it'll get intresting around here.

CC, that house in my neck of the woods is about $75k. Unreal.

Our current house 3/2 2car attatched garage, brick/vynil 1700sq' with 1 acre was $135k 4 years ago. I also have a 45 minute commute but I dont mind. $930 a month including taxes and ins on a 30 yr fixed at 5.5%. I was allmost ready to take out a home equity loan, probaly $15k for 5yrs and build a det garage but decided to wait a bit longer.

runner140, Im going for my first half marathon this year. I may shoot you a couple questions in the future if you dont mind. Right now I'm off to the doctors office to have my big toenail removed (ingrown ) so I can start running again.

Frank, hopefully I'll still see you at an event or two. I still plan on going to the CI, if only to antagonize some people I could go on for days about how the CI used to be a fun free for all but has changed to an OT get together that has more to do with "I have more $$$than you do look at my new car" than just having a good time relaxing. Despite Adam B's best efforts the CI event has went downhill IMO.
You and I go way back on the forum, red crew, USS ZAD, burnout competitions etc. If nothing else we can get a C4GURU sticker on our window and show up  I'll still post over there some but as time goes by and this site develops I'll be here more and more I suspect. I still have alot of friends over there in the Southeast section.

FWIW, I think a guru get-together would be a great idea. Theres all kinds of possibilities. One thing that pops up at least in my mind would be regional events since many of us cant travel across the country. Instead of having our own track rentals or having a guru only event we could piggy back on some other events to keep it intresting, the participation up, and more activities at a lesser cost. For the Southeast we could get together at an event like the year one experience at Atlanta. Drag racing, autox, laps on road atlanta including an HPDE, car shows and vendors out the wazoo. Most of us are gearheads and car nutts anyways so this seems a perfect fit. Any input?

I'm just North of Knoxville, Tennessee. I've got an extra bedroom for someone to crash if need be. A small 2 car garage and a pretty decent collection of tools from my time at the dealership. I can help wrench or fix most things but my garage space is limited. I'm a pretty decent cook and the fridge in the garage allways has a 6 or 12 pack of something. Usually Warsteiner, Natural ice or some other type of German beer.
Wife and I have had all our shots and we dont bite except for our 2 year old son but thats mostly just ankles.

I'm currently active duty Air Force security forces and work all kinds of odd hours. I'm home at weird hours too so no trying to B&E . If you need a guy to clear a room, knock down doors, and advice on how to get that 1k meter head shot I'm you're guy.

Sounds as if you guys allready have this figured out but I'll add my experience. My previous vette, a 90 M6 car, had shorty headers, true duals with no cats and muffler elims. Talk about loud and unbearable. I drove it that way for 2 weeks, just long enough to get it dynoed. I hated the sound so much I was going to put it back to stock but first decided to try an H pipe and had the local shop fab one up. Huge difference, HUGE It made the car driveable. I actually had the chance to dyno it again a couple months later for a fresh set of before/after dyno comparisons on some new mods I was planning. I realize it was a couple months apart but the same dyno showed 7rwhp and 11 rwtrq increase.

FFW to present car. The factory H pipe on the 96 isnt a true H pipe. The opening inside mine is only about 1" or so. Dont know why they didnt open it all the way up. For reference I now have longtube headers, 3 inch true duals, H pipe, and flowmaster super 40s. I havent heard a better sounding exhaust at idle than this. Resonance is pretty bad between 1600-1900rpm however. If I can get my hands on a resonator I'm going to put it in.

Hell, I'm a damn E5 for life I made 1st class petty officer 2 weeks before my Navy enlistment ended, I was allready on terminal leave so alot of good that did me.

Joined the Air National Guard as civil engineering. Spent 4 years getting everything ready, waiting on a Tech Sgt slot to open up and when it did, I was 1 week from transferring from CE to the military police squadron. The conversation went something like...

Msgt - I hope you got your uniform ready, you're getting promoted next drill weekend.

Me - thats nice. Heres my paperwork for you to release me to crosstrain to military police.

Msgt - blank stare....silence.

Me - can I still have my tech stripe?

Msgt - silence.

That was the end of that. Fast forward another year.

So now I have to start over again in this career field as an E5. Allready went to the school, recieved my 5 level, 1 month from my 7 level requirements and have completed the AF combat leadership course. In another month I'll have two 7 levels and 2 aas degrees.
I guess I shouldnt complain because the reason I cross-trained was two fold. I wanted to do something more than I was doing in CE. I'm not saying I'm all hooah and all but I wanted to do something besides sit on my ass.
The other reason was the security forces squadron is growing at our base and while room for advancement is thin, we're growing and I had the opportunity to get an AGR job, which I did. Now if I could just get a damn TDY and a tech stripe everything will be OK in my little world.

Sorry guys, I just needed to vent a bit.

Resized ImageAfter decommissioning this old girl I got out of the service.
Then joined the AF a few years later. Still in the AF. Funny part is, in both branches I've never had anything to do with aircraft. Its either been engineering or military police, go figure.

I have several favorites. The one I use most often is my set of 1/4" drive snap on wobble head extentions. I use the 3/8" quite a bit too.
Something I couldnt do without though are my magnetic trays. I use some for holding tools, others for fasteners, bolts, nuts.

Gearwrenches

Crash, I really wanted one of those boxes when they came out but the $$$ :shaking:

I cant begin to think of where to start.

I once spent 12 days in the brig on bread/water rations for assualting a PO1 when I was a PO3. It was worth it. Besides, at XOI the XO let me off with a warning. He pretty much agreed with me.

I wonder if the car had brakes done recently. Before I start replacing parts I'd replace the fluid and bleed everything good. Check to see if everything looks like its new/worn/missing ;)

Many times people dont properly bed in new brake pads. Not saying thats your problem, but this can cause spongy brakes that just dont seem to grab well. FWIW, do 2 or 3 good panic stops from 45mph to get some heat in the brakes. Find an open deserted parking lot or road. Get the car going pretty fast in reverse and do a couple/three stops in quick succesion also. This beds the pads in against the crosshatch and I've seen this make dramatic changes for the better.
