Day trip destination 185 mi. south in Decatur Il. Weather 40's and sunny. I drove a state road down through corn country now that the harvesting is done and the tractors are in the barn and not on the road.
The museum is a worthwhile visit with a full complement of Indy 500 "track time" pace cars and many other gems. I was the first visitor of the day so I got a personal grand tour from the very knowledgeable guy in charge. I regret not asking to examine under the hood of the Corvette Challenge car. On the way back I stopped at Carle Hospital in Urbana to visit my wife's uncle Graeme, recovering from bypass surgery the previous day. Great guy and a car guy too. He owned an A.C. Bristol for many years. Get well soon Graeme. Driving the well marked, smooth and mostly empty Interstate home in the dark was a treat and the seats in the '91 were better than a trip to the chiropractor. Nice trip Joe. It always amazes me. I've taken the same, longer trip (like 4+ hours) to various racetracks. In the Silverado (or anything else) at 2 1/2 hours, fidgeting around in the seats, wanting to get the trip over, etc. 4 hours nonstop in the C4 - still comfy. |
