I'm friggin old! I put KYBs on my 87 on Saturday. Did all four shocks, took me about 5 hours, that includes the time to clean up the A arms on the front. I didn't detail it quite as good as Bogus does in his write up, but it's lots better than it was.
My car had some blue non descript shocks on it. I was pretty sure they were junk, come to find out they are cheapie Monro-matics. They compressed quite easily, telling me I did the right thing, money well spent. The test ride after putting the shocks on confirmed this. The steering feels a little tighter and the ride is lots better!
This is a very easy job in terms of skill required. And thank goodness for PB blaster! I did the job in my garage, with a floor jack, jack stands, and basic hand tools. I always stress when I jack my car up, I'm very careful to avoid placing the jack somewhere where something can get crushed, or broken. It's one of the few down sides of a Corvette. I miss the old cars, you just stuff a jack under it, get close to the huge frame members and up it goes!
The hardest part of this job for me was taking off and putting on the tires. Those things are heavy. Sunday morning I was moving slow.
If you have any doubts about your shocks, my advice is to replace them. It's an easy thing to do, and I'm liking the benefits!

I got mine from Summitracing. About $125, the shipping is "free", but there's an $11 "handling fee". Darn Summit, I live less than 10 miles from them, if I had known about the handling fee, I'd have gone to pick them up. Oh well, still a good price.
I saw a set of KYBs on ebay from about $80 the other day, but not sure about the seller. When I'm in doubt, I go with the known seller.

I just put on a set last night, too - I've had my tires off and on so much lately that my muscles are getting used to it ;-)

Same here, I feel I could be the oldest tire changer on a Nascar pit crew in history. The 315/35s are a real thrill.
Good to hear the new shocks are making a difference Dale. I had Monroes on for about a year, but went back to the Bilsteins a few months ago. I will pay the extra $$ for Bilsteins, but these should really last me forever.

I did My shocks Yesterday as well. KYBs at ~$145ish. Then we went for a 75 mile each way trek out in the desert last night to see a concert at Sobodo Indian Casino.

The car rode much nicer, all the little vibrations (that I have to fix eventually) were dampened nicely. They were there...they just weren't able to resonate at certain speeds.

I didn't take the front wheels off to do this job. I just worked around them and the fronts were easy.

I did take the rears off and had a bit of confusion over the strap that comes on the KYBs. But after that, I did the one Rear Right in roughly 11 minutes.

Yes, this is a no waiting must when you pick up a C4.

I agree, unless you're sure you have good shocks, change them. It's on the order of complexity of an oil change.

Put seafoam in the gas tank a couple of weeks ago, and ran 1/2 can through the intake. The car seems to be running very well now. The seafoam in the intake didn't make too much smoke. Must have been clean.

I haven't read any good reviews on the Monroes that I can recall. The KYB's are pretty reasonable - just shop around for the best deal.

I ran Monroe Sensatracs for a while. They were OK, but the handling with the Bilsteins is much improved, so is the ride. My 'test' corner on Monroes max was about 35-38 mph, same curve with the new Bilsteins and 45 mph is no problem at all. Depends on how you like to drive, I like to push it hard.
