I read the post on the HSR and followed the link to jegs.
I poked around and found this: http://www.jegs.com/i/Weiand/925/7540/10002/-1 Now I'm thinking, $319? What else do I need? Runners? How good is this thing? |

Buy it, then send the plenum to corvetteforum member ol'RJ. He will cut the plenum down for you and weld it back together to fit under the 'vette hood. Contact him first and make sure he will still do it for you but he welded one up for me and it looks and works perfectly.
Ask guru member Aardwolf how well a stock cammed, '113 headed L98 engine can run with the right parts and the right intake. He is running a superram but you can have even better results with the same combo and a stealthram. |

Interesting.
He cut the plenum down for fit? Any idea what that did to flow? Apparently, you like the result? What did he charge for the work? |

Actually, on mine, cf member makin u shiver built the plenum for me, then sent it to ol'RJ to weld together, he charged me $50 for the welding. Don't know the exact cost of the plenum from makin u shiver because it was part of a package deal on the base, the plenum (unwelded), and a distributor. ld85 and ol'RJ are the guys to talk to about a custom plenum. I believe ol'RJ took a regular plenum and cut it down for ld85 (Larry).
I do love mine. No idea how much it hurt flow but I don't think it affected it much if any for my engine. If you were planning on a big cube high rpm engine I would be concerned. Check with sloRvette, it does appear he has one working for him. Find out who did his plenum and what they would charge you for that same thing. There is also a company making them to fit under the stock C4 hood right now but their name eludes my memory. Search on CF for them. Getting it from them will likely be more expensive but it will be complete, bolt on and go. To install a HSR, you will need a small cap distributor and a remote mount coil. You will also need a different thermostat housing (waterneck), but you can get one from TPIS that is made for the miniram for like $20 and it works great There are alot of other options out there, like an LT1 conversion intake if you are really on a budget, or the miniram if you want a higher rpm powerband than the stealthram, check them all out before deciding. |

rayquale, yes, thank you. USM was what I couldn't remember. Guess I should have read the links instead of just reading the posts. I would strongly consider this if you are looking for bolt on and go. Price is way too salty for me though. Don't forget about also needing a small cap distributor and remote mount coil.
If you are looking for budget, consider an LT1 conversion intake. Here is something else to ponder if you don't have enough choices to mull over already, and this might very well be the cheapest route other than a carb swap: I've often wondered if it would be worth it to put a throttle body injection on, like off a stock '94 or so Chevy truck or maybe an aftermarket Edelbrock one, then put a nice intake under it to suit the powerband of the cam and the rest of the combo. Would be no distribution issues. Would still work with the stock HEI distributor. Would need the computer and wiring harness from a stock TBI vehicle, which are readily available at about any junk yard. Would also open the door for a future 4L60E swap since the computer would have all the controls for that. I'd love to be able to go into the tune and change my part throttle and WOT shift points! Now I got me pondering again too. |
