Tonight on Speed TV, CCR 'restored' a 1989 Corvette.

This is my post on the Speed Forums:

http://insider.speedtv.com/viewtopic.php?t=125002

It's near the end of page 2, depending.

I can't wait to watch the show. Hopefully I will find it Tivo'd when I get home. I will leave opinions out until I have seen it. At this point though, I get excited anytime I see a C4 on TV.

that's the tihng, it WASN'T well done.

It was cheezy as hell.

All the hyperbole was enough to make me gag. There is one thing to be enthusiastic, but their writers went through Roget's with a trowel... It was not pretty.

The ZZ4 they installed is a great motor, but they really needed to put a super ram on that motor. As it stands, it will be torquey as hell, but it won't have any upper rev range performance and will more than likely lose about 50hp.

I was watching that arc with the Bricklen and the Impala.

The Bricklen is a mess, ain't it?

A neighbour had one about 30 years ago... his only complaint were door leaks. It drove ok, and he had it for quite a while, really. I think they were generally ok built.

Maybe someday they'll be C4 Guru TV. Then we can show them how to do it right!

Actually we discussed that a while ago. Not actually on TV, but DVDs or streamable vids. That very well could happen again....if there is a need for it.

Our membership at the time was super slow(as was the site srver), and never took off. With all this re-newed growth, it could be a reality!

Yes, we did talk about that!

Brut is dead right, the old server was a PIG. It had one foot on a banana peal and the other in a grave, videos woulda killed it.

I would love to see multimedia enter the Guru equation... that would ROCK!

DVDs or stream-able vids would be way-cool at some point. And I've definitely noticed the increase in speed from the old days. Now I have the explanation, new servers. As one who's never been known for patience and who also has a high speed connection, as well as a pretty good computer, it's a welcome change.

Flash is the way to go as far as streaming video on the web. Their new FLV format is what YouTube and others are using. Actually the new compression is so good, that actual streaming is not required in most cases. Earlier tonight I hosted a Flash video in the Off Topic Forum "Barrett Jackson Auction" on my domain server that was around 12mb. and about 5.5 minutes long. It started out as a 337mb mpg file that I captured. The newer compression reduces the file size significantly while retaining good quality. The file then was delivered as a progressive download rather than streaming and it works just great. If more people were going to hit it simultaneously then it could be streamed to allow for the greater bandwidth.
Anyhow - video is definitely doable here. The hardest part is getting good original footage and getting it to someone that has the time to edit and compress for the web.

Grizzley - The video you posted looks great!

The thing is this - if we get enough sponsorship, we could take a problem to syndication - which means cable: think Spike, ESPN2 or Speed TV. For that matter, we could include TLC or Discovery.

Sounds like a great idea. The problem or subject matter would need to have widespread intrest and apply to a large segment of the automotive enthusiasts.

Even though statistics show the LSx motors have a bigger market share, I think there is still a lot of guys out there with LTx motors that would like to see a good budget build-up. I wish I had documented my project better because nobody could possibly be more budget minded than myself. I just don't have a fancy big garage or any the cool props like they have on the TV shows.

Finally got a chance to watch this show. I must say, they overestimated the stupidity of the audience.... well it is a NASCAR channel.

Early in the show they said they were using a 5 speed.... when they put it into the car they said it was a 6 speed?

Buying a new ZZ4 and then slapping the stock intake and base on? Then using an old water pump, which they had no idea how long it had been on the car on the new motor? WTF? People trust these guys to work on their car?

On top of it all, when they replaced the intake with chroeme crap, I love all the dirt and debris that is falling off into the open motor. Not sure why they wouldn't upgrade to a glass window on the vert top. They also mentioned the suspension, but they never changed any of the bushings or any suspension gear, that they at least showed. Upgrade the front and rear bumpers, but don't change the side gills, nor does it look like they changed the door moldings.

Nice torque wrench they were using as well

I wish Stacey David (host of Trucks! for those who know know him) could do all the car television shows. The guy knows what he is talking about and knows how to do it well. He's also the only one that doesn't seem to talk like the entire show is an infomercial.

You certainly wouldn't catch Stacey calling a ZZ4 with a TPI a 350HP engine...
