Since my day is amazingly devoid of honey-do items, and I've been so busy with my engine that I haven't given the car much love, I decided that today was the day. Here's what I do - there's probably an easier way, but it seems to work pretty well on the black beast:

1). Start with a clean car (lucked out today, just needed to dust it off).
2). Remove emblems (mine don't have any adhesive on the back, so they're easy to remove)
3). Wipe down car with Prep-All - removes wax, tar, bug guts, etc.
4). Polish with Porter-Cable 7424 - I have on hand a variety of Griot's polishes, Menzerna SIP and Zaino PC Fusion - today I decided to go with the Zaino.
5). Wipe down each section with water/alcohol mix after polishing, then follow with a dry microfiber towel.
6). After polishing the car, wipe down again with Prep-All and a microfiber towel to remove any remaining polish residue.
7). Apply Menzerna Glaze with Porter-Cable, then buff with microfiber towel.
8). Apply 2 coats of Pinnacle Souveran wax, buff with microfiber towel.
9). Remind self for 17th time to order some of those microfiber buffing pads for the Porter-Cable.
10). Go around car looking for spots of wax that I missed, but probably won't find for a couple of days.
11). Crack a frosty beverage, stand back and admire the shine, knowing full well that it won't be long before I'm looking at rain splatters, bug guts, dust and fingerprints.

A couple other notes - during polishing, I change pads 2 or 3 times, and also use a pad conditioner to keep the pads moist.

What's this waxing you talk of?

My routine:
1) drive car to detailer.
2) wait for detailer to finish.
3) drive car home.
4) enjoy a frosty beverage.

Heres my waxing routine for Frankie:

1. Wash car- Deep Purple wash & wax shampoo
2. Clean wheel- Brown Royal or Cherry bomb cleaner
2. Malco nano polishing creme (swirl remover/cleaner polish
3. Finish with Malco nano polymer cleaner wax or Flash wax
4. use a detail or tooth brush and remove wax from moldings, emblems etc.
5. Mist Grape Gloss spray wax to clean glass & painted surfaces
6. dress tires, plastic moldings & weatherstrip Aqua gloss dressing
7. Vacuum interior and apply leather conditioning creme to
seats, steering wheel & shifter boot
8. Have a cold drink-Prefer jack & coke

I dont understand why I see so many guys doing all of this washing and stripping off the old wax. Detailing your car for 8 hours and breaking your backs? These chemicals companies that tell you to do this are pulling your chain. I have used different products on many different vehicles and never had a problem.I mostly use Malco products since the mid 1980's. The quality is as good as 3M and easy to use. The only time you want to strip a car down is if you have contaminates, paint overspray, tree sap, waterspots, bugs and tar. You can apply wax over other wax. The only difference is using silicone and non-silicone products.
Take care.

Hi Dan,

My cars do not get contaminates in the clear because I hand wax them ocassionally and wipe them down with Grape Gloss spray wax regularly. Even when I lived in New York. But,the harsh weather in the northern states does make it challenging to maintain paint protection. I have many years of professional detailing and chemical experience. I do not beleive in claying or compounding a car all the time unless its completely necessary. Clay your car every month and see how many mils of clear is left on it at the end of the year.I do beleive in keeping a lot of wax on my car to maintain paint protection and to build a barrier against contaminates.Just my opinion. But,to each is own.Take care.
