Just replaced cam, springs, 1.6 full RR's, lifters, plugs, wires, WP on a A4 LT-1(equivalent of hot cam upgrade +) Getting a dyno tune Monday and looking for opinions on what to change, modify (want to get my money's worth). Running stock thermostat, no stall converter.
TIA.

I'm not sure what you mean what to change or modify, since you seem to have already done your mods. A qualified tuner will know what to do. I have not had mine dyno tuned yet, but have discussed this with the tuner on a number of occasions since he is a member of our club and I see him frequently. He says that on my car (1994) that he will need to weld in bungs to accept his wide band sensors. He can then do a more thorough tune. So in your case I would suspect the same.

Keith says it will cost me about $500 to do the dyno-tune including the wide-band sensor bungs. That's why I have waited so long to do this. As the car has been running great on a tune that Bryan Herter and I have tweaked on for a while.

Good Luck and don't forget to come back here and give us a report.

Thats' a good tuner and good advice!
My experience tells me though, be careful when welding at the exhaust. It seems to me that this is a major cause to knock out the ECM. If you don't want to unplug the ECM at least disconnect all O2 sensors when welding. Disconnecting the battery is not enough IMHO.

@ jimmymack, what model year are we talking about?

what can he do with the new O2 sensor that he can't do with the stock ones?

are you questioning the worth of a wide band o2 sensor?

It would be a lot to write, best you take a look at it.
The WBO2 has a 0-5 Volt range and is a few times quicker to adjust, the narrow band has only 0-1Volt. The BLM and INT values are based on the NBO2, which is a very good way to start but not really on the spot.

I think he means he needs to weld in an extra bung on each side in order to install the wideband 02 sensors that feed the dyno's computer. They can stick one up in the tailpipe but it isn't as accurate.

jimmymack, your next mod needs to be a higher stall converter. Consider all your options when choosing. Hotcam would be perfect with a 2800 stall but if the car is driven daily I'd go about 2200. If future nitrous use is considered, get one with an anti-balloon plate. You will be amazed at what the right converter can do for a cammed car, and it does even more for our cars as it makes up alot for the stock rear gearing.

I have a TCS converter that is holding up perfectly, but it is a 2800 stall and I think it acts more like a 3200 stall, it's a little loose at normal driving. Check with PeteK, I've heard all good about the converters he has sold, and is who I will see if mine ever goes south.

Got the tune, pulling 304 RWHP and 328 TQ. I don't know what the stock LT1 RWHP from the factory is (270?), but the tuner thought it was a strong number for the car. Notice quite a difference between 2800 and 4K RPM driving, so I guess it was worth it. I see a rear in the future (now 2.59), and since I'll have to drop stuff, that will be the time for the stall. I've considered LT headers, running a Corsa now & gotta keep cats, but if it brings back the resonance, I have no interest. I don't track the car, but I do drive it a lot, so waking it up some more should be fun. Side note, it was worth doing, WP bearings were shot at 42K, probably would have crapped out over the summer, so it saved me and AAA some adventures. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, appreciate it

My 94 A4 did 250 RWHP bone stock with 100,000 miles and original factory plugs, wires and opti.

I have read posts on CF where guys have claimed 275 from stock LT1s but I would think they were built on Monday and just broken in nicely. Also the 6 speed will show a bit more.

Good line about the Monday build.
With the EM long tubes, you getting any resonance?
I went with the Corsa to make it go away and if I do LT's and new cats, I'm pretty sure I'll have to whack out the resonator. The last thing I want is that drone back.

no, I actually wanted to know

all the tuners I've been to use the stock one.

FYI the stock rear isn't actually used on my 95, kind of wondering if I can fit a wideband in there now.

Jimmymack - Yup, I have drone but I'm either getting used to it or the system is mellowing out a bit. My headers go into RT cats and then through a Magnaflow X pipe straight back to their mufflers. This is a 3" system from the collector back but it does narrow at places. At first it seemed really loud to me, but not so much any more. Go figure. Out of the 30-40 cars that belong to our regular club members that I see frequently, I'm probably either 2nd or 3rd for baddest sounding Vette!

Brian - I think they use both the front two factory O2 sensors, while simultaneously using the wide bands. Maybe not, but that is what I thought

Its probable that they could use the location for the stock rear as its not used (like my 94) but they will still need to do the left bank.
