Are there connections to that, Mike, besides the fuel pump in and out?
THIS IS a Guess, but it may be the connection to take vapor out abd to the vapor canister. |

No no connections except to one of the hoses on top. You're probably correct Bill. Probably some kind of oneway valve maybe.
If it's bad could it cause a loss in fuel pressure you think? I think it is the only thing left that I have not checked to find out why my FP is dropping. |

Here's the post that was in.
Ok, here is the spill on the rest of it and of course knowing me and this car it's some kind of weird s**t that doesn't seem to happen to anyone else.......... I have a major lean condition. I changed out the SW LT's for some TPIS headers a week ago. Every since then I have had this glowing cat problem like it's dumping fuel. Mainly of the left cat but a little glowing on the right also. Fuel trims are near perfect at 128 both LT and ST. If there is a exhaust leak I can't find it or hear it. I don't belive this started with this header swap. I think it's always been there I just never looked at the cats before while it was idling. I think it's something in the tune but tuner says otherwise. Mechanical he says. I changed out the PCMs just to see if anything changed and it did. In the PCM he tuned the 02mv would not move at idle. Usually below 100mv on both sides. If I reved it a little they started moving but bank 1 was always behind bank 2. So I put another PCM in and the 02 mv is hauling butt at idle. Still glowing cats though and fuel trims are nuts on the LT side. So I'm looking for anything in th fuel system that may cause it to dump fuel. Just to eliminate a mechanical issue. Which brings me to this question....... What should a vacuum gauge do at idle if the motor is revved slightly? |

Well I be damned, that helped. Took it till 188 to really start glowing and it kind of held it's own at a slight glow towards the rear of the cat rather than the whole cat glowing like it was. My FP gauge runs in 2's so I can't get it exact I guess. May raise it slightly just to see if it stops all together. Thanks so much Steve!!!!!! |

The point I am after is that O2 sensors require air as a reference in order to give a valid reading. Believe it or not, the air comes from the wires. I know, sounds wierd. That's why you can't cut or alter the wires in the pigtail. Any splices will affect it's operation.

And I'm glad you brought it up because I never got an answer to this question I asked a while back. In order to keep the wires from the 02's from being burnt on the headers I wrapped them in heat shield tape. Not real tight but they are shielded sort of. Question is: Will this affect the readings of the 02's if they use the wires like you say? |

Guys I'm about to give up here and it takes a lot for me to do that!
I took off the AirGap intake and put the ported LT1 on there. Now I have LTFT numbers that are nuts! Bank 1 is something like +18@142 and bank 2 is about right at -1 or 127. Short term are moving between pluses and minues but not much. This spells intake leak or maybe exhaust leak but I can't find any. I removed the LT1 again and did everything in my power to seal the thing. No dice, still crazy fuel trims. The weird part is they level out to about normal when the engine is revved to 2000rpm and held there. On top of this I broke a wire in TPS plug and had to order a pigtail and it won't be here until in the morning. On top of all of this I guess I have a blow by problem. The Airgap no longer than it was on there has a good amount of oil in it or at least stains like it was in there. I have a small catch can so I looked in it and it had about 1 1/2oz. in it. I guess it would run fairly well with the blow by but I have no idea of what to do about these fuel trims. Just frustrating......... |

Sounds like the intake gasket is not fitted right. Is this an LE ported intake?
If you can put a straight edge on the manifold and see if it is straight, if you take it off again. Also, you can spray certain liquids onto the manifold area where it meets up with heads while its running. If the idle changes, you found your air leak. |

On the front and rear is where I use The Rigth Stuff RTV, let it sit for a day before firing it up. Thats just me. I put a little over on to the part where the heads meet the manifold so the gasket seals a little better. If you put a good bead across the front and rear it will do this anyways. I never put any on the manifold to head section. I just use standard FelPro for LT1's. I dont knwo what the LT1 to AFR gasket recommended is off the top of my head, but there is always debate on this to get an LT1 manifold to seal up with the AFR heads. |

A regular LT1 intake will port match fine to the Comp Port 195 Elim's as well. The port opening is not very big at all.
I used a Fel Pro 1284 to port match the last intake I did. The gasket port is almost perfect size wise - but you will have to raise the locating dowl holes (simply drill new ones) up .080 to put it in the right place for the AFR heads (as the AFR intake port is slightly raised more comparable to the LT4 V/S the LT1 heads). An LT4 intake requires even less port work. Simply squaring up and widning the stock intake port results in an almost perfect port match. Here again I just used a Fel Pro 1284 gasket with the locating dowl holes re-drilled to raise the gasket up .080. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-te ... e-ported-to-afr-195s.html And this is a good thread too http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-te ... l-things-to-remember.html |

I may have lucked out overnight and the intake sealed better. I sprayed carb cleaner all around it and no increase in rpm. If it's leaking it's in the lifter valley. Fuel trims are within more of an acceptable range now. +9 on bank1(it was something like +18)but that may be a exhaust leak on a band clamp. Bank two which has never been really bad is within a 4% range either way. I'll check the exhaust out after it cools off some. If that doesn't fix it I guess I'll pull the intake again and seal it with Black RTV everywhere on the top portion of the intake gaskets let it sit overnight and dare it to leak this time. Damn, this is getting old fast!
The gasket that is in there now is a AFR 6820. Plenty room around the ports and plenty of sealing surface so no need to mess with relocating the alignment pins. |
