For some time my car has been popping on deceleration and I figured it was an exhaust or manifold leak. After getting under the car and looking around, at every connection, there was soot, where I could see that was drawing or allowing air to move in strange ways and cause the popping. After trashing the clamps and welding up the seams, no more pops, well, not near as much. It still gurgles and pops after a spirited burst, but while driving around town, not nearly as much. Below is a poor quality clip, without popping!

So my learning experience of the day, don't clamp exhaust.

Andrew, was this the clamp connection after the catalyst on the passenger side?

Yes. My setup is LT headers into an X pipe, into 2 high flow cats, back to PE exhaust. The C clamps connected the in and out sections of both cats. I think this was the main reason for the popping. The only part not welded any longer is the connection to the collectors.

If you look close, you can see the old C clamps hanging in front of the rear tire.

Also at WOT, the car would squat and rub the ends, creating sparks. The would also drag easy, so it was no wonder the pipes would move or shift.

Glad you got it worked out! So you were using c-clamps and not band clamps? I wonder if that would have made a difference. I personally have c-clamps on mine with no issues, but would prefer band clamps.

Had both. Band clamps connected tube from the collector to the X tube and X tube to tube that connected to the cats. The PE mufflers connect with bolts, so no slipping there. There were leaks from the band clamps and C clamps, but the C clamps were leaking worse.
