I'm thinking about upgrading my stock HEI.
I'm revving the new engine to 6500-6700 rpm and
I'm not sure how efficient stock HEI is at that rpsms.

What is your opinion on the subject?
Should I upgrade or not?
If yes, which system would you recommend?

If it was me, I would consider updating to an LSx style coil on plug. They are good to past 7000 RPM.

Another option would be to use a NASCAR style coil and distributor. They operate well into the 10k RPM range.

From my understanding of HEI, it will work up to about 7k, so you should be ok.

LS coils would be cool and very efficient! Do they make kits for this? Wouldn't you need a new computer? I bet it would be a lot of work.... I'd bet the Nascar style would be the easiest and cheapest way.

I know that coil on plug is the best way to go, but
it's too much $$$ for my needs right now.
I think that I'll go with MSD 6al or similar setup.
Thanks!

These guys build great stuff. It drops in the hole and runs.
If it does fail, stock parts still fit so you can get home.

I read about MSD at 3rgd Gen forum and supposedly their distributors are fitted with Delco modules. Some guy called up at MSD and confirmed the story.
So my guess is, it's all in the coil. Get a good known coil and be down with it. That's what I would do.
Way too much advertising in the spark business, that has only proven to fill the mfg pockets.
