Wow...that's an odd question. It would be a considerable amount of work to move the pumpkin and batwing back. Is there a specific reason for this?
Regardless, I don't have a 100% answer. According to this site, manufacturers recommend no more than a 7% angle for driveshafts. He believes up to 15% is safe. He says you will experience u-joint binding and failure at 30%. Also as the percentage increases, the life expectancy of the u-joints decreases significantly. http://www.4xshaft.com/driveline101.html You can also check with Denny's driveshaft, a well known and reputable builder. Their FAQ only says the lowest amount of angle above 1% is ideal. http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/frequ ... d_questions.html#faq_id25 If you can provide more info, maybe we can help you some more. Also be aware that the angles of both tranny shaft yoke and pinion yoke need to be identical for best operation. From there, the other guru posts apply as well.

I can't imagine where you'd put the rear axle that would have any meaningful effect on the u-joint angle.
As long as it's not straight you're good. A minimum angle is necessary to keep the needle bearings in the u-joints rotating and lubed. |
