Looks like he spent time to pick the right cam.
It should compliment the compression ratio and cylinder head very well.

I think that Jerry Jackson is fairly conservative when he is building a street engine for a customer. I have seen guys here with a lot more lift and more overlap but I think this combination will be smooth running and easy for Mick to create a tune.

He did improve the flow characteristics of the heads from what I got from LE. Probably the difference between a LE2 and LE3 port job. I'll tell you.... I paid for that little bit of improvement!!! Flow at .550 lift went from a baseline of 258 to 270 and from 262 at .600 lift to 271

Of course this is all on paper. Also the bigger valves and the de-shrouding of the valves gave those improvements.

Bigger is not always better.
On a street car, I think you have a damned good, well rounded combo.
Very similar numbers I would look for on my own builds.
My stuff often runs faster than the bigger combo's with the same cubes. Well matched is the key.

i agree with pete. i think it will be a great street car. depending on if your stall is in line with how you drive it could make it even better.. but its all on what you want out of it.

I'm using the same converter that Pete set up for me before. It's a 3,000 stall 9.5" converter. I think it should work pretty good with my 383 setup. The 3,000 stall converter worked great before. I didn't have any issues with the way the car drove under normal operating conditions. At the track it really stoked the launch but when driving to the grocery store it behaved quite docile.

Wow, that's the largest valves I've seen in a stock LT1 casting.

LE3 lt1 heads use 2.055 valves.

Yes... 2.05 intake, but I did screw up on the exhaust valve and I can't remember what Jerry said he put in there. Might be 1.58 or something like that... I know its not 1.95" like I had originally said above.

1.56 sounds right, but Jerry didn't put the exhaust valve diam. on the flow sheet, just the intake valves. Which I knew because he called me and told me that he ordered the 2.05 valves since they were the same price as the 2.00 valves.

This whole thing got started when we found excessive wear to the installed valve guides and one of the 2.0" original valves had cracked. Also, Jerry was pissing and moaning about the crappy port job on the heads. So, I broke down and told him to go ahead and re-do the heads. I was just going to have him replace the guides and the one bad valve but again he didn't care for the Ferrea valves that were installed. So I told him to go ahead and put all new Manley valves instead. He did a baseline flow before and after which showed some good gains in flow over the previous LE2 port work. Plus he had to do some more un-shrouding of the valves to accommodate the larger intake holes. He even went so far as to chamfer the cylinders to allow the gasses to smoothly pass over the ridge created by the cylinder edge at the combustion chamber top.

OK, the 1.95 exhaust valve was throwing me off.
