Please listen to the video clip...

Does this sound like a spun bearing?

A bad torque converter?

Starter still engaged to the flywheel?

Notice the sound it makes after the engine is off.

Oil pressure is at 45 psi and oil level is to the line.

I didn't see any metal in the oil and no oil puddles under the car.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Mark

you have spun a bearing... for sure... but it's on the accessory belt drive somewhere!

I would remove the belt and go looking for broken things.

You can safely start the engine, when cold, for a minute or so to test the belt theory.

It is not in the engine. I am guessing AIR pump.

Another thing you can do, get a LONG handled screwdriver, put it on each accessory and then put the handle to you ear - cheap stethoscope. Listen to each and see what sound they are making.

I don't feel it is internal.

I just got done pulling the accessory belt off. The sound didn't go away.

Now I am still trying to figure out if the noise is top or bottom.

Looks like a trip to the hardware store for a long screwdriver tomorrow.

Wow. Still making that noise.

Man talk about killing my theory.

I wonder if the harmonic balancer hasn't come apart.

Inspect the sheet metal timing cover for damage when it is apart.

Got the crank pulley and the outside ring of the harmonic balancer off today. From what I can see and feel there is no damage to the front cover. I looks like it going to be a tight fit to get a pull/installer in there with the steering rack in there though.

Any one know of any tricks?

And thank you Matatk for the recommendation and I will be placing the order with RockAuto!

Well, with the balancer off, you have enough room, you may want to put the motor on a hoist, release the motor mount bolts and pull up an inch or 3.

As long as the 84 isn't different than the 89, the HB puller tool will slip through a "loop" in the steering rack line and you'll be able to get it out.

Here is an old post I made to get you started:

Yikes, I forgot about this thread!

First off, thanks everyone for the info!

With the new balancer and u-joints installed, there is now ZERO drive line vibration.

I admit, I have been having too much fun this summer! :D

I just listened to that video again. That would have scared the piss out of me if I'd have heard that one day. I had a real spun bearing, didn't sound that scary!!! LOL

Glad you got everything working and having some fun with that Blue Devil!
