My lil old '84 has been my daily driver since April rain or shine. I plan on driving it up until our first snowfall.

I guess it had to happen! After 30 years...The clear coat is flaking off. Only on the Halo and Passengers side rear quarter, but still makes me sick.

Under the hood of my 1984, I noticed today that I am in need of these two little guys.

Any one know what they are called? And who may have them?

Thanks

Mark

HI Folks!

What year did GM put these tips on C4 Corvettes and where can you get them from without the muffler attached.

Thanks

Is it possible to reroute the serpentine belt and has anyone have a belt size/part number to use?

The old A/C compressor seized up and the smog pump has a little squeal to it.

I was wondering if this would even work.

1. Swap out the smooth idler pulley for a grooved one.
2. remove smog pump
3. reroute belt around pulley to alternator.

Below is the belt route of a 84 crossfire.

Here is the only interior pic I have stored on this computer. I'll have to take a few more and post em'.

Blue cloth seats, Blue carpet, removed the breadbox (still have it)

Appears I will have to replace the shift boot cover, I found a split on the inside seam.

Yep, still original, but I may invest in new carpet this year due to the fading and showing some wear.

I think the process used on the photo is called tilt shifting. I thought it gave a 3d look, I'm not sure what a instagram pic is.

Yikes, I forgot about this thread!

First off, thanks everyone for the info!

With the new balancer and u-joints installed, there is now ZERO drive line vibration.

I admit, I have been having too much fun this summer! :D

I took a look at the spare tire under the car today and yep, its flat! Upon further checking, it appears to be the original 1984 spare tire! I checked Tire Rack to see if I could order a t155/80/d16 and nothing shows up on the website.

Does anyone have a recommendation where to buy one?

How much do space saver tires go for?

Thanks
Mark

Got the crank pulley and the outside ring of the harmonic balancer off today. From what I can see and feel there is no damage to the front cover. I looks like it going to be a tight fit to get a pull/installer in there with the steering rack in there though.

Any one know of any tricks?

And thank you Matatk for the recommendation and I will be placing the order with RockAuto!

I just got done pulling the accessory belt off. The sound didn't go away.

Now I am still trying to figure out if the noise is top or bottom.

Looks like a trip to the hardware store for a long screwdriver tomorrow.

Please listen to the video clip...

Does this sound like a spun bearing?

A bad torque converter?

Starter still engaged to the flywheel?

Notice the sound it makes after the engine is off.

Oil pressure is at 45 psi and oil level is to the line.

I didn't see any metal in the oil and no oil puddles under the car.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Mark

Just a little update....
I have been doing a little research on all this stuff and they are expensive when purchased new as complete kits $1900+ w/o computer etc.. I still want to do this project just for the coolness factor and something different! (perhaps polish it up for show) I plan on going to see what pieces I can get at the summer swap meets and go from there. I would also like to talk to a few guys that have this kind of setup on their custom rides as well and get their feedback. Will have to see how things develop this summer. Stay tuned.

If you want restored, expect to pay around $300 for just the wheel, not the horn cap or emblem.

If you just want a cover, look at wheelskins on ebay, I have one of theirs and I like it a lot. Around $35 I think.

Has anyone had their steering wheel recovered or is it better to go and get a nos/oem replacement? This last summer I noticed a little squishie feeling and with its 25 yrs of use it is showing some considerable wear.

It is stored at the in-laws while they are Arizona for the winter. I don't really have access to starting as frequently as I would like. (maybe once / month)

One thing I always do is put a bottle of Sta-bil in the tank every winter. My question is, should I store the Vette with Premium, Regular or does it even make a difference? Up here in Michigan we have already switched our fuel to the winter blend mix. I figure since this fuel will be setting in the tank until March I want to make sure it not going gum up or damage any of the fuel system giving me headaches this spring.

I was working on getting all the snow off. I had to re-tighten everything after all that heavy snow.

When I was assembling it I was climbing all over the frame. It is pretty solid believe it or not.

If you could believe it, my Impala is seriously worse. That's one of the reasons I also have the Monte Carlo. Next year I will probably get snow tires for the C6, but for the time being it is useless in the snow with the summers on it.

Wow, I thought the Impala would be better then the Vette.
I know my 1/2 ton short box 4x2 is a real joke in any snow.

I had snow tires on mine and we used to drive it all winter. Had it in up to a half a foot of snow, and it just dug and went!

Funny thing, I happen to know somebody who has a set of wheels and snow tires for sale.

The biggest problem I was having was getting the snow knocked down far enough to clear the air damn up front. That's about as far as I could shovel before all the packed ice. The one time I had to drive in the snow it was a white knuckle experience all the way but tires do make the difference.

Looks like yours has a nice hibernating spot!

It works until I get its new home built this summer. That ground is cold!

Picked up the pedal assembly today, double checked the feet issue, owner said his wife has a size 8 shoe. (It was a backup for her Vette which was sold years ago)

Can't wait to get the Vette back on the road for the weekend! Got to make up for lost time.

Thanks folks.

Looks like my wife may have found a used assembly for me, I get to go check it tomorrow.

2 days of downtime without the vette is bad enough...

Is what you get when you have a size 13 shoe and a heavy right foot. I snapped the pedal base while getting on the highway, needless to say, it was a real short trip.

My questions

1. Does anyone make just the base?
2. How much of a job is this going to be?
3. Are there any special Tricks to do this job?

Right now the accelerator pedal is just hanging by the wire and is parked in the drive way.

Thanks
Mar

Today the wife has to work so its just me and the dogs. Its going to be a great day to work on the rides. (Vette First) We are also in the process or buying a new house so I might get some of my stuff packed up before the big move. The weekend plans will be doing more of the same. Pack Pack Pack!

As long as you take off the Corvette emblems and put IH emblems on it.
