For NCRS reasons I won't even try to explain I need to replace my PCV valve. Is it just a simple disconnect/reconnect, or am I missing something?

Oh, man... you have to remove the oil pan, and both center main bearing caps to reach it.
hahahahahahahah! Sorry... It's as easy as it looks. Plug and play replacement. |

Should take about 30 seconds and that includes opening the package. Probably the easiest job on a corvette....assuming you can get the hood open

I had a day when the hood broke... took 5 hours to get into that SOB.
If I was you, John, get the little metal clips that go on the hood release cables. That's what breaks. |

So, I did what has to be the easiest thing in the C4 Corvette engine compartment and swapped in a proper AC Delco service replacement PCV valve for a no-name valve that was probably the second one installed in the car.
I started the car and everything seemed as normal, though I think the the idle was a little smoother. Should I notice any difference? I notice that a PCV valve is part of some L98 tune-up kits. |

Or wasn't opening.
Otherwise, no difference. The PCV controls the vacuum pressure of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation System. If it isn't opening, or has a leak, it is just like having a leak in the intake path. PCV is normally a closed system. And when there is a leak, it becomes open. The general idea is to capture the really gnarly gases that build up inside the engine during normal operation and burn them off. To be honest, it was one of the first, and most effective, emissions controls. As bad as tail pipes could be, the crap inside the engine, with oils and fuel vapors all mixing together, what was coming out of the vents on the valve covers was worse. By burning it off, it really did help - a lot - without any negative effects, really. It could lead to gunking of things, if you have bad rings, otherwise, not much of an issue. |
