I went through hell with this there should have been no problem.
Steve Quote: ttpfi wrote: 1996, LT-4, 383. 6 months ago, had the clutch master replaced. Last week, clutch started going to the floor and I had to pump up the clutch to get it home. I replaced the master, bled the system, bled the system and bled the system. Take it out for a drive and I get 2 miles down the road and the clutch peddle goes soft AGAIN. So my question is, replace the slave cylinder? This is frustrating. The slave was replaced a year ago. Posted on: Today 16:40 _________________ Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me. Anyone have a suggestion? Istter1 |

This part is stock. Replaced slave cylinger and tubeing also. That is why I was looking at swing pedal. Don't know if there is one to fit this one.

Sweet.
That's what I was after. If you had an aftermarket clutch or some big monster motor... Now... why are you bending actuator rods??? That really makes little sense. It is a hydraulic system, so how in the hell is the fluid getting hard enough to bend metal! Could this be an install problem? I will find the pages for installing the master in a little bit. |

I agree it makes no sense. It is a simple job to install. Once we get a few vehicles out of the shop I am going to start on it again. I even looked in my Haynes repair Manual. I am that frustrated is why I am lookins at swing Pedals.

The fly wheel had a lot of blue like it had been slipping. My parts guy is an old buddy and he is replacing the hydrolic system a complete clutch assembly and lines I am buying a new fly wheel. We will put it together next week and see what happens next. Thought we might try a different brake fluid next time.

Well runs great now. Pedal is were it should be. The guy at SK speed told me of some after market needle bearing for the over drive. With the brand new flywheel it is better than new. Teo different Shops including SK Speed told me it was best to shim the flywheel or save time and put in an OME new flywheel for some reason the corvette and camarrow had simular problems. First time In fourty years I have run into this. I will in time Everything is new clutch kit. hydrolics so if this one last 6 months I will become a beleiver.
If any one wants a flywheel let me know maybe we can swap out for something |

Keep in mind, getting parts and service on the 4+3 is getting dicey. You may want to consider a 5spd conversion at some point. TKO makes a very good one. Less complex, better driving and more power handling.
Just say'n... I am glad the clutch is working as it should!!!! |

Well up and running again. We did some modification to the clutch pedal bushing. It was shot. We replaced it about 6 months ago. When we removed the old plastic bushing and set it down on the table in the shop there was a Brash bushing that looked so much like the plastic one from the vett. We did a little grinding on it and drilled it out a bit and it fit perfect. Now when you pushed down on the pedal the shaft did from the master went in straight every time. We had bent a push rod shaft on the master about a year ago. The play and slop was now stabilized and everything may work fine this time.
The slave was a bit of a pain to bleed this time but worked fine when we bleed it through the master, it improved. Still some air in the system but not a lot. Drives fine. Will bleed it again next weekend. As slaves can be a pain in the butt and easy the next day. http://corvettespecialty.com/corvette ... brake-pedal-pivot-bushing Got to have it ready for school monday, as it is the best looking car on Campus. Lol I can't impress the femal teachers but the gets more looks then me. Steve Attach file: 87 vett brake and clutch ped.jpg (33.62 KB) bushing.jpg (16.16 KB) |

Well back to square one again. I need suggestions of why this keeps happening. Nothing wrong with replacement parts used every brand made. I replace master. slave and line each time.
Not even a complete fool could mess up this many times so this is something not the norm that is causing this problem. Is there another system that could be installed to replace this one? Any and all ideas are welcome. Finished installing the last system in Jan this year. new tranny and new clutch new flywheel. Same before replacement. Will be at shop this weekend to take it apart again this weekend and see which failed this weekend. System full of fluid. |

The fluid is dark black it was black within a week after everything was replaced. Below is a quote fron another site about the color and crap in the fill cup.

Are you using original GM parts?? I know you mentioned NAPA, but they have had issues with the o-ring inserted backwards in the past......
There is a GM wholesale place on Gothard Street in Huntington Beach. I know you are in Bakersfield, but if you are a shop....or you can present yourself as a "jobber" they'll sell to you out the back door type thing and the parts are just as cheap as NAPA non-original parts. I'd try these as the last time I did the NAPA route, the Slave they gave me wouldn't mate up with the GM hose without modification, the original GM Slave mounted right up.... So, I took the NAPA slave back and got my money back..... Once I found this GM place, I've not had a hard time finding any parts. And your 4x3?? Orange County Transmissions in Costa Mesa did mine....He didn't need to rebuild the DNE Overdrive, but he took it apart and replace the gaskets.....He did rebuild the 4spd portion, he had it done in "one" working day...... I dropped it off on Monday mid morning and Tuesday afternoon he was done......$750.... |

^^There is something really odd about your situation....
If you take a Master, Slave and hose and replace them all at the same time, there is NO WAY an issue from the old components could transfer to the new......I mean, if dirt an grime are to blame, if take all three components out...there is no way to cross contaminate |

Question about Master slave throw out
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-INT ... p=mtr&hash=item23190a9fcb Could this one be used with Master cylinder stock corvette. how much pressure is required to operate one of these? http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... userid=gripforce-clutches I am e-mailing this company in Brea Ca. to see what they say about their slave mounting up to my transmission an what master is needed to operate the slave. Doesn't hurt to ask I am using a different transmission then 4+3 Keisler has a ring to put their model but have not tried this system with this system no Idea if it will with 87 http://www.keislerauto.com/components ... 673782d7822dccb10ae56.jpg Anyone fimular with these systems |
