trying to replace the boot on my sons car. This in an automatic. How do you get the spring loaded push button in the center out? I believe there is a c clip holding the button housing on, is this correct? Thanks.

Gently pry the cap off first. Inside there is a C-clip that you will curse getting off, then the knob slides up and off. If it is stuck just tap it a little.

The button is held on by what I would call a friction fork. I thought I was going to destroy mine when prying around the perimeter of it but it finally broke loose with no damage to it or the knob. Be patient.
The c-clip...at least you can see it.
Also, the knob was stuck pretty good on mine after clip removal, might want to squirt a little lube in there.

I assume this is the leather boot.

Remove the shifter knob, pry the button out, remove C clip.

I dont know you year but for the 92-96 Vettes, there are few screws to remove the center console.

Two are in the center/glove compartment, one underneath the ashtray and the most lovely one you have to reach it with an extension thru the right side of the ashtray lid. Be careful with the hatchback release cables.

The leather boot is held by four phillip screws and a metal frame.
