I spent another day prepping and painting locomotive parts.

Steve's craftsmanship amazes me.
Note the cab sheetmetal with copper rivits , not pop rivits but each one hand bucked.

All the parts on the frame are hand made except the niys and screws.

Even the ladder is made from flat stock, custom bent.

The engine:
The cylinder base and cylinders are purchased as rough castings. Everything else is machined.
The connecting rods at the front have a half thousandth clearance to the crankshaft.

That is some crazy stuff. Who buys the finished products? He could come over and help you on the C2......naa it would be to easy for him.

I would love to watch how he builds them. Do a U Tube thing on it so we can watch how it happens. What scale is that?

The train thing is huge, most guys into this stuff are also interested in the real ones. Steve had a 1909 track inspection/work car (the real thing). There's a lot of abandoned track in the U.S. that they run on.

Steve's building both of these locos for a gut in L.A. that already bought one from him.

I do use Steve's machine shop free of charge for some C2 stuff. But he doesn't have time to work on my car, he doesen't even have time to work on his streetrod project - 36 Plymouth, L98, hasn't touched it in a year & a half.

YouTube would be boring (too slow), what you see in the pics is 4 months work, 50 hours a week.

No idea on the scale, I'm not into these. Search "Live Steam" and you'll find more than you'll ever want to know.

The other morning I woke up and thought, "lets build a steam locomotive".

Not me, way too much work, it'll probably be easier to restore my C2 than build one of these.

C2's are more fun to drive too.

Amazing. It is so refreshing to see that Americans still have the desire to do something for the pure love of it.
