yea saw this on the news.. so if we save our pre-1982 pennies, and then wait we can melt them down and sell them for their copper value..
So all those who hoarded them would be selling them, possibly causing a decrease in copper prices? I would imaging it takes alot of time and money to sort these and then sit on them.. so would it really be worth it? |

This isn't the first time that penny's became a big hit on the commodities market. Happened about 30 years ago, it's what caused the change from copper to zinc.

The big irrigation pivots that we have in the fields are being stripped of their copper wiring for resale. It would take a lot of work to get the wire off of the pivot and then they have to sell it to somebody....The junk buyers have to know the stuff is stolen when they buy it from the thieves.......
