Anybody else settling in for the "long slog" ?

The new Corvette Daytona Prototype looks great - we'll see how well it actually runs ...

I'll watch a bunch of it, certainly more than I'll watch any other race except Sebring.

I kinda hate watching races.

Don't have the resources........anymore.

I would like to drive in another 24 hours race. I've done 2- 25 hour races.
getting in the car at 3:30 a.m. after you've been up 36 hours straight is .......interesting.
Racing at night where there's few lights is......very interesting.

They've got it until 11:00 PM EST tonight. Starting again at 9:00 AM EST tomorrow morning and running until the finish at 4:00 PM EST. Decent amount of coverage.

Depends what the jobs are. If it's being "Warden of the Gate", it sucks.

If it's corner working or tow crew, you're in the action.

Being a newcomer to the event I imagine it would be port-o-let security monitor or something like that. I'm sure it takes time (or nepotism) to work up to the prime work stations.

Well, you do get a green and a red flag when you stand in front of the john.

Yea, corner workers, fire and tow are licensed specialities but the initial licenses are a one day school.
And to work the Pro races, you need some experience.

Our guys will be working ALMS, the Rolex Reunion and grand Am at Laguna Seca. Plus the Ferrari challange at Infineon.

Our corner workers have been invited to work at the 24 Hours of Lemans quite a few times.

You're yanking me right?

I was at Portland and Buddy Rice (Indy 500 winner) passed me so fast in turn one that I thought my motor shut off.

A.J. ran our kart track (I think he was just outa his dipers), broke the track record by a full second in a 125 shifterkart the first time he ever was on the track.

These guys are no-shit fast.

But they also always brought high dollar equipment with them, makes a difference.

Well, that was the right decision. Better than bitchin' about a race I'm not in.

Took $21 down, came back with $318.

Well, I was waiting to see if Speed TV pissed me off (as usual) before the race coverage ended.

Sure enough, they nascar it up with a box saying "Points as of now" like that's not going to change in a half lap.

Then they take off Daytona to show a guy at a gas station asking customers "What year did Michael Jackson first do the moon walk?"

Unbelievable.

Interesting... If you want my harsh take, the Corvette = FAIL.

The 2nd place team got their car within the last week, finished it, won pole and nearly won the race. I don't think that the Shank boys got their car any sooner.

Good job to Shank Racing. They kicked ass. Got to give AJ serious props for his run. He looked real good out there.

I was pulling for Ryan Dalziel's team. Ryan is married to an old friend of mine... known the girl since she was about born, to be honest. My niece was her matron of honor! It's kinda in the family in a strange way.

I wanted to see the Vette do well, but I just wasn't expecting much for some reason... donno why... hard to put words to.

Was pulling for Ollie Barreta in the Ferrari. They were pretty strong, just not strong enough.

A few other random observations:

Speed could have run coverage all night long if they wanted to... I am sure this was Speeds call, and if anything, rest the broadcast crews. It's all about contracts and fun things like that. I do agree their options for post coverage broadcast were debatable at best.

WTF is this "Tronix-Country" shit? They are trying to sell 3 generation old crap for top dollar times five. This is beyond stupid consumerism, this is for the brain dead. If the lotto is for people bad at math, this is for people bad at everything. Damn. I have real estate to sell on what will be the California coast line after the big one.

How many gold clad coins did you all buy? Any of the painted $2.00 bills? Who really buys this shit? It's rampant stupidity... I would love to see someone take one of those "collectibles" and try to pawn/sell it. HA!

Well, the question is why, is it not?
The answer: there are a lot of idiots in the world.
If there weren't, these guys couldn't stay in business.

Certainly not the first "get a computer with no credit check" deal, they've been around for years.

Same with the coins, been years and years.

Why are there 4 NEW buildings built by Dollar Loan Center in Reno (not cheapo units in a strip mall).
And not to forget ads for Cash Loans by Rusty Wallace.

There's the greedy.
There's the gullible (who get prayed on by the greedy) thuogh it may be well deserved.

AND there's the rest of us that look at this shit and say: "I can't freekin' believe it.".

I guess you could say "What happened to Pruett?" and some of the other larger teams.

It's like what happened to the Taylor Vette, runs fine, ran the tests fine, prepped to the max and an engine component brakes right out of the trailer. Shit happens. A lot of luck goes into winning a 24 hour race no matter what the prep.

The car in my avatar, I qualified that car in 3rd place the firat time I ran it. In the race I ran a half lap and the car quit. The wire on the fuel pump fell off, the pump's inside the fuelcell.
No one had ever had that happen in the 5 years that these cars have been raced (we checked).
