Think of it this way... is the car reliable? Do you drive it daily? If so, don't sell it. The $6k you get more than likely won't help the house deal that much.

Yea, sure, but...

I am not a fan of selling a tangible asset, such as a car or collectible, for some immediate need. Is there a used option? Craigslist? Can these purchases be done over a period of time?

We just bought a house, too, and didn't have to make that sacrifice, because once you make it, you might never go back... that is the sad reality.

This is the economic equivalent of a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

It's all about timing and need. You need a lawnmower, for example, why spend $1000 on a new fancy one, where a $200 used one will get you by? Or you need drapes... fine, but why spend $3500 on custom made shutters and drapes when you can buy some fabric at JoAnn's for $50 and make your own.

To me, many things in life are purchased once and kept. Because if they are sold, replacing becomes a problem... my Rolex? Hell, I sell it once, get $5k and then what... the money goes to some transient fix and I no longer have an asset.

Our hot water heater was acting up, so I asked some friends who are older than me, and they both said "thermal coupler". Found out they are pretty much a generic part, so I got one.

$5.25, with tax. How much would the repair guy charge me? "Mr Bogus, you need a new unit, this one is now 15 years old, it is inefficient and is costing you money, blah blah blah, $1500 installed." Oh, I have solar hot water, so how much work must the gas unit do? Whatever the case, $5 is a pot load less than $1500.

All I am saying is explore all options. Don't get fixated on one solution. As an old college prof told me, "don't limit your thinking."

There is always more than one solution...

Oh, ok. Fair enough. I wasn't sure where you stood on the car itself. If selling was a heartache or not.

I see where your passion lies. I can understand why you would miss them. Those are some neat rides!

My cousin from England used to race motor cross back in the day. Like you, he had to stop because his knees/back/hips all finally gave out. You may have heard of him, his name is Kurt Nicoll. He was KTM North American racing director or something like that for a few years. These days, he's working for the company that makes Nitro Circus.

Oddly enough, I have never met the man... he lives 90 miles away, and is never home!

The Vett is my Toy I dont drive it much anymore I drove it for a while as a DD just to small I take my Kid to school with all her stuff and most of the time we have to stop somewhere on the way home It was tough sometimes putting every thing in the car.

We drive the Hybrid Camry most of the time now aday with gas prices 40 MPG sure is nice.

The funny thing never got a speeding ticket in the Red Vett but got one in the silver 4 door Hybrid LOL thats funny.

I have only ever gotten 2 moving violations in my Vette over 12 years of ownership. That is rather ironic...

I understand the 40mpg thing!!!

My 92 is my daily driver; and it's paid for... I need to work on it, but that's a different issue.

I understand about selling the car..don't worry about it. If you want another, there are tons out there. Take care of the house and family first.

The silver one is a 72 Yam, I raced Moto, 500 mile cross country, Pikes Peak and then turned it into a flat track bike.

The orange 480 Honda is nuts, it only has a 4 speed cause it only needs a 4 speed.

Some fool at Honda desighed it with the kick starter on the left side though.

Had a 78 Yam for flat track too.

Yea, you spend the money for a new racer and none left over so you have to buy used Black and DAYGLOW orange leathers.

I should dig out my red leather motocross pants and the Nylon Yamaha riding shirts with the elbow pads.
