Anyone have a picture of the heater hose routing for the 92 LT1? I know it is a lot different from mine, but someone on another forum is confusing me about how his are routed.

not on me... but I can try...

1. hose leaves upper radiator, hits T and separates to throttle body.

2. coolant passes through throttle body to hose that goes to the heater core.

3. out of the heater core into the surge tank.

4. out of surge tank and back to water pump.

The only differences? Your car does not have the T, it has two ports on the water pump. The throttle body gets its water from somewhere else, I don't remember where off hand.

Pics:
1. the Tee & hose that goes to the TB
2. TB & W/P connection
3. The TB hose goes to the lower heater core connection, the upper HC connection - a U shaped hose to the surge tank,
the other surge tank hose goes to the WP
4. Note that the TB to HC hose has a restrictor (that GM stupidly calls a valve) that reduces flow to the HC.

I did away with all of that crap.

I used a 96 water pump and got rid of the T. The ultimate throttle body by pass. Got rid of 5 potential leak points.

I would but remember, I don't work on my car, I just drive it.

I did the same thing on my 92... but I used a WP housing off an Impala which actually made routing the heater hoses around the front of the engine a little easier.

Do you still have the valve/restrictor inline?

I am pretty sure I do have the restricter... My logic being, this was after the waterpump and perhaps actually has a reason for being there... perhaps to keep the heater core from blowing up?

Yep, we had this discussion on the NCRS forum. One of the guys worked in the plant and he said that was why it was there.

There was also some discussion on the pellets GM recommends plugging up that orifice (but not really confirmed).

So 92 are plumbed one way, 93-94 another way, and then 95-96 a third way. 3 different ways in 4 yrs = GM engineering at its worst.

I figured there had to be a reason it was there.
Thanks

What's funny is, I was changing heater hoses, saw the restrictor, lookes in the FSM and they called it a valve.

My first thought was WTF? A valve? A Check Valve? in the cooling system???

THEN, I pulled it and looked thru it, thought, a valve? There's no damn springs, poppets, just a hole, did my VALVE self distruct???

No... it allows GM to charge more for a "valve" than a "piece of plastic with a hole in it."
